SEPHORA COLLECTION Pro Foundation Brush #47

What it is:This brush applies and blends foundation properly on your features, ensuring that your complexion is evenly and flawlessly covered. What it does:The tapered, chiseled brush fits the contours of your face and blends formulas seamlessly. The synthetic bristles won't absorb oils or product, making it the most hygienic way to apply product. The long, tapered handle makes application feel more painterly than laborious. It's great for applying primer, too.

I have a Smashbox fan brush. Smashboxes brush applies little at a time, where Prof Platinum Foundation Brush # 47 takes alot of your foundation but is easy to control the spread of the foundation to all areas of your face in just a few strokes because it spreads so niceley and evenly.

I love this brush for liquid foundation (the bare minerals brush will not work well for liquid foundation application, though it does double as a good powder/bronzer/blush brush). I have used this brush with the Dior Nude foundation and was VERY pleased with the results. I really like this brush.

I do not clean my brush after each use, but instead clean it every one or two weeks ( I only wear foundation about 4/5 days a week). I either use brush cleaner, or when I do not have brush cleaner, I use baby shampoo (think johnson and johnson or something of the like). Mine has lasted well under 1/2/x a week washing for well over a year. I do not always buy brush cleaner and the baby shampoo works fine as far as I can tell.

I use dawn to clean it. Make sure the brush lies flat. You don't want the water running into the handle. Also, I try to wash every morning but don't always but I do at least once per week.. You do want to allow time for drying.

No, I usually clean my wet-use makeup brushes once a week to keep the bristle soft for better application. I clean my dry-use brushes once a month.

I do. When you use the brush, it becomes dirty with oils and dirt from your skin (even though your applying makeup to a clean face) and from the elements. I clean mine every night with mild dish soap (Palmolive Pure) and extra virgin olive oil. There's a YouTube clip that shows you how (I'm not sure if I can paste the link in here....type in michelle phan clean brushes). Hope this helps.

If your foundation is a liquid, this will work beautifully. If it is a powder mineral makeup, you need a kabuki brush to apply it.

answer 3
hi! so, i looked up neutrogena sheer mineral foundation because i had never heard of it before, and apparently it's a powder? (if i looked up the wrong thing than i apologize). Kabuki brushes work fantastically with powder foundation.

This foundation brush is mainly for liquid or cream foundation, it would definitely not work with powders! I recommend purchasing the MAC 182 buffer brush. Yes, it is pretty expensive, but the quality is amazing and it's the kind of brush that will stay perfect for years and years to come as long as you take proper care of it. It is densely packed but still soft, so it picks up powder foundation nicely and gives you an airbrushed finish. If the 182 is too expensive for you, then any densely packed kabuki should work fine. i hope i helped you out! (:

I use it with a mineral powder makeup, both the loose and the compressed compact version. It "grabs" a really nice amount of product. After I smooth it over my face, concentrating on problem areas, I smooth everything with another brush - the loose powder version that I bought at the same time.

I like using a kabuki brush or all over powder brush for mineral foundation. I found the bare essentials all over brush to be too rough and the hair is too long for blending/buffing.

This brush is not as dense as some I've seen for mineral makeup, so I think it's better suited for liquid foundation. You may want to try Sephora's mineral brush or Bare Escentuals full face application brush. Hope that helps!

Question
Sanitizing vs. Cleaning
I clean my brush about once a week with antibacterial soap but lately i've been breaking out and I can't figure out why. I am going to start washing my brush everyday but I am also thinking about using alcohol (pharmaceutical grade 70% IPA) to sanitize my brush. My theory is it should kill anything left behind and dry quick. Does anyone have experience with this or think it will ruin my brush? I'm desparate to get my skin to clear up, I've been doing everything and still new break outs are popping up. This brush is the only thing I can think of.

Try a makeup remover to remove the makeup from the brush. Then use the antibacterial soap, but only a soap that you would on your face, not hand soap! Rinse the brush well, and if you are really concerned, rinse with sterile water. Let the brush completely air dry before you use it.

answer 5
You probably shouldn't wash your brush with antibacterial soap. Baby soap works better. Washing with antibacterial soap can cause bacteria to become resistant to the agents that kill them and eventually, the soap becomes useless. Personally, I use Johnson&Johnson baby soap and my brush stays soft and I haven't experienced any breakouts.

I never knew you could use a brush to apply liquid foundation. Does it really make such a difference to apply it with a brush?

Absolutely! Using a brush allows you to use less product than with a sponge (which absorbs a lot of makeup), which saves you money in the long run. Also it gives you more control over application. And if you're comparing a brush to using your fingertips, a brush gives a less messy and more hygienic application.

And different brushes allow for different types of finishes.

I think it makes a big difference. It takes a little practice at first but once you get the hang of it, I think your foundation will look like it was airbrushed on. I also think that you will use less foundation with a brush than you do with any other method.

First shampoo and condition the brushes as soon as you get home because it will prevent extra brush hair loss over time. Then let it air dry over night and the next times use shampoo or gentle soap over gentle makeup remover on it.

Cleaning brushes is very easy. You can choose to purchase the bottles of brush shampoo or the antibacterial spray from Sephora, but note that with the antibacterial spray you would still need to shampoo your brushes at least once a week to prolong the life of your brush. The antibacterial spray should be sprayed onto a tissue and then the brush gently rubbed through it. The shampoo should be applied to the palm of your hand and then the brush swirled through the shampoo. When rinsing shampoo out of the brush, the brush's bristles should be facing downward and the stream of water hitting the top part of the bristles. NEVER hold the bristles upright under the water. This will cause water to travel to the base of the bristles and mold to possibly start growing, causing a mess of you brush. Make sure that your brushes dry on a flat surface on a paper towel. NEVER allow them to dry standing upright in a jar because this will cause the water to seep down to the base of the bristles and cause a mess again.

You can either buy brush shampoo (Sephora carries it) or you can use baby shampoo. Be sure to put the shampoo in your palm and swirl the brush around in it, rinsing with COOL water (warm/hot water ruin bruhses). To dry, I lay mine flat on a towel. If you stand the brush up after cleaning, water might get down into the handle and eventually ruin it.

I use Sephora brush shampoo. If you don't have it, Neutrogena, or any other mild shampoo works. Just squeeze a small amount into your hand, wet the brush and swirl it in the shampoo. Then rinse (repeat if necessary) and shake off the excess water, blot it with a towel and lay it so the brush is hanging off the side of the sink or another surface to dry.

I'm not sure if my previous answer went through or not, so here goes (possibly again). I would recommend that you purchase the Sephora brand brush cleaner, which is something like $14 for a huge bottle. Cleaning your brushes every day or every few days will make them last longer. You should wash them more thoroughly every few weeks, or as needed, as well. I use my facial soap, which is gentle. I would also recommend baby shampoo. When drying your brushes, lay the handle but not the brush head on a flat surface. This will allow all of the the bristles to dry pretty evenly and also allow the brush head to revert to its natural shape. Hope this helps!

Personally, I already own a Smashbox foundation brush which looks identical to Sephora #47 except for the color of the handle and for the application of foundation I like this one better. The difference between the two brushes is in the type of bristles they have and the way in which it applies the makeup. That is where the difference comes in, it is my experience that the Professional #47 appies the makeup more smoothly and evenly without streaks. The other type brush hairs I found clumped and applied the makeup unevenly, with streaks. Granted, with either brush I do smooth, feather edges and the finish out but the difference is in the type of hairs/bristles used. I hope this helps you reach a decision.
