I wouldn't say it's super protective or hydrating. The color payoff is amazing though... you only need a tiny bit to get a vibrant but still translucent stain. It does tend to wear off quickly however, I find myself constantly reapplying. All in all I wouldn't suggest it as a "winter balm", it seems much more suited for warmer months.

This balm does give a good nourishing feel to your lips, with a hint of color, but the color isn't very buildable. It's more of a nouirishing lipgloss than a lip butter. I own Korres Jasmine Lip Butter and it's more of a creamy, buttery balm that will keep your lips moist all day, and the color is a bit more buildable, plus it's less expensive. Both are great products, but I think the Korres Lip Butter is your best bet for what you're looking for.
