I did not like Shu Uemura's eye lash curler . I have not tried the other one you mentioned, I would advise to give it a try. My Shu Uemura eye lash curler fell apart very early on. The few times I did use it was just like any other eye lash curler I have ever tried.

Question
Is this really any better than a drugstore one? Is there an instant, noticable difference?
Is it worth the 20$ to buy this as a replacement to my normal revlon one from walgreens? Do your eyelashes stay curled the whole day, and does it not create an unnatural curl? My eyelashes do not stay curled for long after I apply mascara. So will this do that for me?
Thanks!

YES there IS a difference. The biggest difference is HOLDS CURL ALL DAY. I'm a retail manager at a drugstore and I've tried most of the eye lash curlers that we sell (Revlon, Lacross, Tweezerman, and Maybelline to be specific). There IS a difference in SHAPE and the cushion. The only one that could possibly come close is Tweezerman, but even that is a $12 eyelash curler...they only thing drugstore curlers have on this one is price and convenience--you can easily replace a broken curler or lost one... the shu uemura is kinda fragile and traveler sensitive, BUT it works and is totally worth the $20.

I even did a test to prove it to a skeptical aunt of mine. I challenged her to curl her Asian, straight-down lashes without even putting on mascara. Next day we looked at her lashes again and they were STILL curled. I kid you not, it's worth the money--especially if you chose to use this every day.

i have the same issue. i must use a mascara that does not have water as its first ingredient. usually waterproof ones work best. this curler is great. it does give a natural curl, and i curl in 2 spots. my lashes stay curled all day. the price is high, japonesque is another great choice from Ulta.

Is it worth the 20$, absolutely. No, your eyelashes do not stay curled all day but it does appear as a natural curl. For best results I curl before mascara. Be sure to pump and hold. Apply two coats of mascara and allow to dry for a few seconds. Again, pump and hold, try to get it as close to the lash line as possible. I would advise using a plyable mascara that doesn't get stiff on you.

This is no different than the revlon curler from the store, not worth the price. If you're going to spend the money, go for the heated version by Sephora.

It is definitely worth it! It does everything you need it to do and more. Trust me, I was skeptical of all the reviews I've heard to and was constantly debating with myself whether this was actually worth it or not and it definitely is! I actually googled "shu uemura Eyelash Curler" and found photos others have uploaded of the results they had and decided to order it. It will not let you down.

Yes, in my opinion it is worth every penny. I have straight Asian lashes and this curler curls my short lashes gracefully. When I curled my lashes and did not apply mascara, curls lasted all day. Your curls depends on formulation of your mascara. I wait until mascara is completely dry then curl one more time.

Yes, this is worth the money. I have tried virtually every drugstore brand out there, and they just don't hug the lashline like this one. The other ones are just simply the wrong shape. I like to use it this way: crimp close to the lash line and then walk it out the lash, crimping a couple of times as you go. Then you can get a really nice curl that lasts all day. My lashes are extremely fine and straight, and I use this right before my mascara, and it lasts throughout the day. Totally worth it in my opinion!

This product blows the drug store ones out of the water! I don't know how, but it does. Curls my lashes on one squeeze. And I have crazy long eyelashes. Perhaps it's the hardware. Better quality by far. Better "squeeze" in general.....I'll never buy a drug store one again.

YES! It just works better for your eyelashes...it doesnt pull them out of hurt this is easy and gentle but gives you an amazing curl. I dont have thick eyelashes, i have thin ones resulting from a surgery involving my eyelashes and this is fantastic for that! If it works on that it will work on all types! GET IT!

It depends on how often you use the eyelash curler and how well you take care of it, i suppose. I've had my pad in for more than 3 months and its fine. It works the same as the day i bought it. If you feel like its time to change it, then change it.

Shu Uemura doesn't sell name brand refills as others have said. You can, however, purchase comparable Tweezerman brand refill pads from beauty supply stores. It's not the exact same but it's one way of continuing to use your same curler body.

Your guess is correct... you must purchase a whole new curler. According to the company, the curler "wears out" the time the second silicone "goes". I find it hard to believe the metal would wear out ... it is still THE BEST Eyelash Curler

They don't sell refills. When you use both rubbers up, it's time to get a new one. At first I thought it was a bunch of you know what to get the consumer to keep buying but I found one of my old, unused refill rubbers and started using it and found that the actual mechanism started to pinch. Not the most eco-friendly, but for the results, totally worth it.

I am pretty sure that you must purchase a totally new eyelash curler in order to receive new refills. I think that it is not entirely ecologically sound, but I guess unless we all complain and tell Shu Uemura about it, it will remain this way. It is rather expensive, and extremely wasteful to throw away a perfectly good curler, due to no more refills....hope I helped.

unfortunately Shu does NOT sell refill pads. I found this out the hard way. You get the one extra it comes with and then you have to THROW the whole thing out. That made me mad since we are in the recycling era not to mention the extra expense. But since I loved my first one so much I bought another. Hated it!! Pads or curler weren't the same as they used to be and it got stuck and chopped off half my lashes on one side. So into the garbage it went.

I never curl my lashes after putting on mascara because it gets all over the tool and doesn't work as well. It also takes off the mascara you just put on, and in some cases smudges it on your eyes or rips out some eyelashes. I always curl before hand or not at all depending on the mascara (it makes my eyes look too round with certain formulas). I have seen a couple videos online about doing your lashes and all recommend going before you put the mascara on. I have even read, to curl your lashes three times to get the optimum curl--near the base, in the center, and at the tips.

Before. You can try to after, but most likely you'll yank out lashes and junk up your curler. Properly curl your lashes before and you shouldn't have to use it again.

they don't sell replacement pads. it's such a waste to buy a new curler every 6 months, but that's what you've gotta do!

I don't know if you can order more silicone pads. I went to ask at Sephora and the girl there told me it was better to buy a new curler because after a while they lose elasticity. The good thing is they come with an extra silicone pad and they last me quite a while.

I wipe my curler after use each time very gently with a soft washcloth to remove any oil or gunk that could start to accumulate. I have not used any type of cleaner on the pad & just wiping it seems to do the trick.

Question
Does your eyeliner come off after curling your lashes?
Wondering if anyone has any tips on this...whenever I curl my lashes, after eyeliner and shadow, most of my liner ends up on the eyelash curler. Any ideas on how to prevent this? Thx!

I've curled my lashes after liner and shadow, some of it comes off but not that much where I would need to reapply. My advice would to curl before you put make-up on. The curls stay!! Which is why I love this!

Hi. I was advised by a consultant never to curl your lashes after you put on the mascara. In the past, I curled before and after eye makeup application. But I've found that if I heat a blow dryer for a minute and then use the curler, there is no need to use the curler after makeup application. It works best when you use the right mascara. I have found Lancome's Virtuoso which provides curl and volume, works the best.
