Hi,

Make sure you have the right sharpener. Some sharpeners have guards inside that make them adjustable for different sized pencils and some may be too small. If the sharpener doesn't fit correctly, you'll have too much product loss. If it's even a tiny bit too big, the crayon may be gouged as it rotates, resulting in loss.

Hope this helps.

Question
sharpening?
Dumbest question ever, just bought and love, but how do I advance the pencil? I don't see that it twists any where but the outer pencil feels plastic, like it wouldn't be used with a sharpener.

This is a tad drying, so lip balm underneath and on top would be the best bet to keep it from drying out. I don't find this chalky at all,

I would say no, but you should exfoliate your lips and then apply a thick balm to help with the dryness. Drinking lots of water helps also. I have dry lips also and one of the associates at Sephora recommended Bite Lip Mask and it works! It's thick and meant to be worn over nite, but sometimes I use it during the day by itself. Lipsticks over this tend to slide off. Hope this helps

my advice would be to apply a lip moisturizer/ balm 1- 2 minutes before applying any lip pencil. that will smoothen out the application and help against drying out.

Yes, it does dry out my lips a little. That is what I don't like about it, I prefer the lipstick version over the pencil version. And yes, the finish is very matte and velvety.

The pencils do not dry out your lips, but your lips will not feel moist. So you get a matte finish. What is nice is that you can either have the matte finsh or add a gloss and it wont bleed on you. These are great in that way, they are versitile.

Why does Cruella look hot pink on me?
i love love love Cruella....when it isn't on my lips. I am 19 and have very fair skin. My natural lip color is a very very light pink. When i apply this to my lips, it looks hot pink! I have this problem with a lot of reds. Why does this happen and how do i fix it?

Try applying concealer on your lips before using Cruella. That should neutralize your natural lip color and allow the red to stand on its own. Good luck!

This also happens to me with every red lipstick I've tried. Dragon Girl looks bright fuchsia on me! Like Jade4NJ said, it must have something to do with warm undertones -- I suppose it's now time to shop for the perfect primer!

Try only applying it in the center of your top and bottom lip, and then blending it out with your finger or a q-tip. It'll make the color less intense and concentrated. Or put a layer of chapstick on before you use it. That usually works for me!

yea its just from your lips natural pigment. to fix it you can put a lip primer, concealer, or foundation on your lips. it blanks them out and creates a base for your lipstick.

U MUST sharpen them w/a sharpener--they r NOT twist up. I bought the $6 NARS sharpener which sharpens both small & large pencils. These fit perfectly in the large side of the sharpener. HTH!

You'll need a pencil sharpener in a larger size. NARS sells the two barrel sharpeners, and the Urban Decay two barrel sharpener also works for NARS crayons.

With a pencil sharpener. It wastes A LOT of product, which is actually the reason I stopped buying it (it's great otherwise).

If you must have a stick gloss/lipstick, you may want to look at Soap & Glory's stick gloss next time. It's self sharpening, has a nice little bit of shine, and leaves a pretty stained color after fading. Also, it smells like vanilla!

Question
How often do I sharpen this?
I know this sounds like a stupid question.. but should I sharpen after every use to keep its shape or do I wait until the product hits wood? Whats the best way to save as much product as possible while keeping its pointed shape?

I definitely do not sharpen minel after every single usage. The pencils, both satin and matte (I own both), do not get dull even after several uses. It still is in shape. Besides, these pencils are pigmented. Slight swipe will give you pretty much full color/ So, the product won't lose its pointy end that fast.

I would wait until it's hard to use because you are hitting the wood casing. Buy the sharpener from Nars, it will work best with their products.

I only sharpen when it hits the wood. Of course, it won't stay pointed unless you sharpen more often, but product is going to be wasted if you only want to use it when it's pointed.

I have found the best way to avoid product loss when sharpening is to stick the pencil in the freezer for about two hours prior and then sharpen with the NARS sharpener. Make sure the sharpener is specifically used for that product only.
