The smell is very different, I haven't smelled anything like it before. I've gotten used to the smell now and I actually like it. It smells fresh, light, and calming. I've been using this cleanser for 3 mos. I swear by it. I use a little in the AM in the shower and then at the end of the day to remove make-up. It is the ONE AND ONLY cleanser I have found to remove ANY mascara you throw at it. It's completely safe on your eyes. I use a little to wash my face and concentrate with gentle rubbing on my eyes on days I wear mascara. It washes almost all away in one wash. Any very slight residue I wake up with washes off easily the next morning. It doesn't dry out your skin at all. A little goes a very long way. In regards to smell, I don't think it has a smell at all really. Nothing unlpeasant about this cleanser.

It smells kind of like a fresh flower? It isn't to strong but has an odor. Not unpleasant, but not pleasant, if that makes sense? It removes everything pretty well except my eye makeup. At night I use the purity face cleanser because it gently removes my eye makeup and in the mornings I use this product.

Yes it's a pleasant gentle scent. Imagine slicing cucumbers with your front door open just before it starts to rain. It's pretty good at removing makeup but like most cleansers you probably want to wash twice if you use a long wearing foundation.

I was told by my derm to stop use due to the soy because it could cause hormonal breakouts. Is this something that I should worry about ?

I also am I former sufferer of hormonal acne... not since I started using SOYFRESH! I have stopped using in favor of caudalie, which is just as good for me and doesn't test on animals.
I have occasional mild hormonal acne around my jawline, usually I am blemish free. If your hormonal acne is more severe, I highly recommend the clinique regime for acne control. It has just the right ingredients for hormonal acne (B-peroxide, SALY acid) but for me, it is a little to drying. I still use it occasionally if I have a really stubborn breakout.

I don't think so... I think if you have hormonal breakouts, it is caused from your hormones fluctuating, not from a topical cleanser that is only applied briefly.

answer 11
I have hormonal acne too, but I don't see how using the soy cleanser would affect it. What causes the hormonal break outs is the fluctuations in hormones, which comes from within. Would your derm suggest this because of the phytoestrogens, because it's prob just a trace amount, and you're not consuming it anyway. If you like the way it works on your skin, why not stick with it?

I am sure the results vary by individual, but I have combination skin and this was too drying and mildly irritating(splotchy redness around the eyes). I did not find it moisturizing. Maybe there was just an ingredient in the formula that was not compatible with my skin as other users don't seem to have these issues. Advice: sample prior to purchase.

I would only recommend Korres Milk Proteins 3 In 1 Cleansing, Toning and Eye Make-Up Removing Emulsion. It is very gentle, but still cleans your face and thoroughly removes makeup, which most face washes for sensitive skin just don't accomplish. The new formula smells of honeysuckle, has the texture of melted ice cream, and you have the option to tissue it off. If you decided to tissue it off, it leaves your skin very comfortable and hydrated. It will never clog your pores and treats your face well. I recommended this to a person who had rosacea and FLAKES all over because she washed her face with soap and didn't moisturize (scream!), and after using this, her skin was balanced, moisturized, and comfortable.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate is an inexpensive foaming agent that is added to many personal care items (including toothpaste). It satisfies the false belief that it is the suds that are doing the cleaning. It is a detergent that can be irritating. There are a lot of high quality ingredients that will clean your skin better with the suds. This cleanser is one of them. Using this with your clarisonic is perfect. No suds necessary.

Yes, this is normal. Since this product does not contain Sodium dodecyl Sulfate (aka sodium laurilsulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate) or any sulfates for that matter, which is responsible for the lather that comes with soaps and some cleansers, it does not lather up. Unfortunately, that also means that the makeup is harder to remove with this but at least, it's not harsh for your face. :)

Can you skip toner?
I love this cleanser. I am getting annoyed with having a lot of steps in my care routine, so I'm thinking of ditching toner. Since the product description says it tones, and in my experience it's effectively cleared away my makeup (even eye), should I consider just going to moisturizer after this?

I do. I generally feel the same way Paula Begoun does about toners: they're a step that make you feel good and "complete" and can make your skin feel extra clean but they're generally not needed. I have large pores and generally uneven, terrible skin but now just use this cleanser, BHA or AHA to tighten my pores and then moisturizer or retinol cream now. I don't waste money on toners, and do not need them with this cleanser.

Personally I still use toner after this product as I feel like toner tightens up my pores more so than this face cleanser. However I find that since my skin type is fairly oily I require this second step, but if your skin isn't very oily your pores are probably smaller and you may not feel the need to use both. I sympathize with the multi-step beauty routine (I lost count of how many products I use at night a long time ago). I've had great experiences with this cleanser and I would say you could probably skip the toner. Depending on the toner, some can really dry out your skin which can defeat the cleanser's advantage of being gentle and non-drying.

I would say you could go w/o using a toner if you are pairing this with a Clarisonic brush. When I use my Clarisonic with this cleanser, I often do not follow up with a toner but may just mist my face with some Evian spray and wipe with a cotton ball following up with a moisturizer. When using the cleanser alone, I always follow up with a toner as I usually uncover residual dirt/makeup the cleanser did not get.

I'm guilty of skipping toner most of the time but honestly, it does make a difference in your skincare routine. If you want to keep it simple, Bliss makes toner wipes that are fantastic. yes, but I would add spot remedies after washing your face. Drink a lot of water and watch what you eat! it's not a miracle product, but a great cleanser.

For acne, it does not work as well for me as the medicated cleansers.

I wouldn't endorse this product for clearing up acne (Good nutitition is the key imo). This is a great product to maintain a clear complexion and is probably better suited for someone who doesn't have issues with acne. It's strengths are that it really disolves makeup away. For my normal skin, this product dries my skin slightly so I dont ever skip moisturizer afterward.

It's cleared up all of my acne. I have acne around my chin and cheeks. All of my acne but one or two every now and then are gone. If they do come back its only a coupe days until they are gone.

Not sure as this does not apply to my skin type. It smells very nice, is super foamy and my face feels softer after I have used this cleanser.

THOROUGHLY, YET GENTLY CLEANSING YOUR SKIN ON A REGULAR BASIS (AND ESPECIALLY AFTER WEARING MAKE-UP) WILL HELP PREVENT BACTERIA FROM ACCUMULATING ON THE SKIN, WHICH WILL HELP PREVENT ACNE. I F YOU HAVE ACNE-PRONE SKIN, USE A CLEANSER WITH AHA'S.

This product will help in removing dirt, makeup, and oil; however it will not help to treat a current acne problem. I would recommend going with a specific product/skincare kit designed to treat and prevent acne.

This product doesn't have any acne medication in it. It will help in the sense of cleaning dirt and oil off your face but it's a pretty simple cleanser. If you are looking for something stronger, go for a product that has benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid included in the ingredients, which will help treat and fight acne.

I haven't seen any difference in the amount of acne I have gotten when using this product and going without any facial cleanser. In my experience, I don't think it does anything for acne or blackheads.

This will thouroughly clean your skin, but you should also use a spot remedy for those acne areas. I use a pore cream after I wash my face to help with that.

It will not do anything for acne prone skin. They do have a line for oily skin and blemishes. You can also try boscia black line. It's great for acne. I hope this helps

Though it isn't specifically formulated for acne, I have mild acne and this has worked terrifically on me. I would not say it has rid my face of all acne, but it has prevented breakouts and I have noticed my skin is much clearer now. But everyone's skin is different, so it may not necessarily work the same way for you.

No. I really like the Murad line, although it can be a bit harsh. I also use the Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads.

I use it with my clarisonic before applying a moisturizer, and this has helped control my acne. I also have another cleanser that is specifically for acne, but it leaves my skin feeling tight, so I prefer this one that is for all skin types.

I used this product for awhile, really enjoyed it, however it wasn't exactly what I was looking for in terms of breakouts and acne.

Instead try, a cleanser from Boscia called Clear Complexion Cleanser (first link). I love it because it has ingredients made for acne and breakouts, but your skin does not feel dried out after using. Also, I highly recommend using it with a clarasonic. It just really helps to exfoliate your skin and lather the cleanser.

Also, for not that much more you can purchase a kit from Boscia (link 2). I haven't tried the complete kit before, but it seems like a great deal for the price having used the cleanser.

I don't think a cleanser alone will tackle blackheads or other types of acne. This cleanser is gentle and with acne prone skin you don't want anything that will leave your skin excessively dry (so the cleanser would be good in that sense). When I had acne I used all kinds of products; the biggest ones contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

You need something that gently exfoliates your skin, cuts back on excessive sebum (skin oil), while gently hydrating your skin. There is rarely one single skin product that can do all of that so I suggest your try a line of products for acne. You can search Sephora for value sets that allow you to sample skin care lines that treat acne.

However keep in mind when you start treating your acne you are guaranteed a flare up or mass breakout. These products bring the congestion to the surface of your skin. Think of it as a mighty skin purge. After that your skin should get better and more manageable.

However, if your acne is scarring your skin and you can't get it under control...please please see a dermatologist.
