In the sense of being a metal case providing a barrier from the elements, this would prevent water (from rain/ snow) from getting into your case, however the item does not specifically have heat-resistant elements to it. This means that if you take this out into the sun, the items would be more protected than they would just being loose (say stored in a pocket or purse), but as a makeup artist I try and avoid leaving my case in direct sunlight for super extended periods of time.
Try storing the case in the shade if you are taking the item with you direct sunlight, but when this is closed water would not get into the case. This would also be great for travel (store with your checked luggage) and is able to withstand the type of heat from storage on a plane.

The are some adjustable compartments to accommodate longer items such as brushes, but there isn't a dedicated rack for them. Also, the trays are fabric lined, not smooth - so powder from brushes and other cosmetics are likely to cling to the pretty black interior.

When you insert the key in the lock, make sure the key fits all the way into the lock before you turn it. Then, turn the key to the right or left as far as it will go. Do the same for the other lock (turning the key in the same direction). Then pull the key out. If the key comes out easily then the lock is open and you can proceed to unlatch both latches and open the case.
