I have been purchasing this product for many years. I have light/medium skin and I used to use the ebony compact but I recently purchased the dark brown compact. I was happy with the ebony compact but, out of curiosity, tried the dark brown compact and to my surprise find that it looks more natural. The darkest shade in the dark brown compact and the lightest shade in the ebony compact are very similar but the latter is a bit darker. The light brown shade in the dark brown compact may seem off-putting but it actually complements dark brown hair nicely when blended with the dark brown shade. Glad I tried it and switched.
I recommend Ebony. I love that it fills in my brows, complements my skin tone, and doesn't have an extremely harsh finish. Given your complexion and haircolor, I would totally recommend the Ebony-- however, you should really go to Sephora and ask an associate to apply them on your brows.
I went in and realized Ebony was the perfect match for my skin/haircolor.

I am Eurasian; have light/medium skin with yellow undertones and medium (sometimes dark) brown hair. I tried both the brunette and ebony compact & the ebony looks much more natural on me. Both compacts contain only brown colors , they just differ in the type of brown. The darker brown in the brunette compact is a bit red for my taste. Whereas, the lighest brown in the ebony compact is more of a "true" brown, like a chocolate brown. Since the dark brown in the ebony compact is too dark for my brows I use it as a eye shadow & it works great.
I have dark brown hair and fair skin, I use the Ebony color, and I can attest first hand that it is NOT black. I've tried the brunette as well but the golden undertone of it just doesn't look natural on me. Ebony has a neutral undertone which makes it perfect against my skin tone, regardless of how light it is.

I don't usually like black eyebrows on anyone, so I would go with the Brunette shade.
I have dark brown to light black hair and use the Brunette. However, my skin is light medium, so if you have a darker skin tone, I would recommend Ebony.
I would go with a shade closest to your hair color. Or mix 2 colors for a custom shade. I would not recommend going with a color that matches your skin tone, b/c then we wouldn't be able to see your eyebrows.

Go with Medium Ash. I still have dark brown/black eyebrows (sparse), tried a darker brown or brunette, and both looked "drawn on". The Medium Ashe blends well and looks so much more natural.
I would buy the lighter shade. My hair is light brown with highlights and the Ash Blonde is perfect for me. Someone told me once that most people's brows are naturally a bit lighter than their hair. Hope this helps.
If your hair is TRULY black, you may need the Ebony. But...I'm African American and have VERY dark brown hair (that most people THINK is black) and I use the brunette. It's important not to go too dark, because it will look artificial. Try to catch it with the free samples if you can't make it to the store. They almost ALWAYS have the free sample in brunette. If I had to guess for you, I'd say get the brunette and use more of the darker color in the duo. Hope this helps!
