Clean with a brush cleaner like mac brush cleaner. There are cheaper brush cleaners to get also just spray a bit and wipe and your done. A bigger cleaning may need to rinse. Also i have heard that purity cleanser is good to clean all types of makeup brushes.

I have cleaned mine two ways. The best is using a brush cleaning product that dries quickly. I just place the liquid into a plastic cup, then submerge the brush into it and swish it around gently. I use paper towels to blot, and keep swishing until the paper towel is clean when I blot. Then, I use a clean cup to hold my brushes, with the heads up, until they dry. I also use baby shampoo and warm, not hot, water in the sink, using the same technique, Swish into the soapy water, blot on a towel, swish again, etc, then place, heads up, in a cup to dry.

Wash the brush with a tiny bit of shampoo (baby shampoo works best because it is so gentle), rinse very well and dry brush so that the bristles face down. I usually dry my brushes on a towel, with the base slightly elevated

If it's really dirty, put some oil (from your kitchen: olive, canola, vegetable, etc.) on a paper towel; swipe around your brush until most of the makeup comes off.
Then wash with shampoo or soap and let air dry.
If you wear makeup every day, you should probably wash it about every 2 weeks or so, depending on how oily/acne-prone your skin is. (the longer you wait to wash, the more bacteria from your face will grow on your brush and reinfect your face when you use it.)

After each use, "spot clean" it with the BE Quick Change brush cleaner. Don't spray the brush directly, spray a paper towel/napkin (tissue paper works, too but can be too soft). Then at least once a week, use a tiny bit of shampoo (BE Well Cared For works, but I just use regular shampoo). I swirl the lather around in the palm of my hand to really get the soap in the brush. Rinse the brush well and gently squeeze out the excess water. Then lay the brush flat on top of tissue overnight. Cleaning your brush frequently totally extends the life of your brush =)

I'm a vegetarian and I was worried about the hair used in these brushes, so I called BE and they assured me that they were cruelty-free. They don't kill any animals for these brushes, they just trim their manes.

This brush is made out of natural sable hair. These hairs do come from an animal source. However, BE does not list the source.

So, the only brush out of the BE line that is synthetic is the Maximum Concealer Brush. Therefore, because your are a vegan, the BE 's brushes wouldn't be best for you to use (I guess?), because the hair's on most BE brushes are animal hairs.

The bristles are made of goat hair, so I think most vegans would choose a synthetic brush, like the ones offered by Urban Decay (also on this website) over this product.

answer 5
I'm sorry to report but it is not "vegan friendly." This version of the brush is made of goat hair, and another BE Flawless App Face brush I bought is made of sable--these are both animal products so if you are against using any animal products (whether or not the animal is harmed) this brush is not for you, but sephora offers a lot of other brush options on their site and you can click on various brushes to see what kind of material is used. You will probably want to look for the word "synthetic" to ensure that no animal hair is used in the brush. As for the rest of the brush--there is some metal, wood, and paint.

I like to store mine in a bucket but it was damaging the brush hairs and angling them weirdly so I'm switching to cups ( short cups cuz these brushes are small) but they can be stored together just make sure nothing is really interfering with the bristles

Personally, I have a Bare Escentuals make-up bag, and it has separate elastic bands to store the brushes in, as well as trays for the jars of minerals. I think as long as you store them away from anything that will compress or bend the bristles unnecessarily, you should be fine.

i don't see why you would have to store them separately. i use a drinking glass and stand them up in between uses. they do advise that you wash them weekly though - this will keep them soft and will also rid them of bacteria. when you wash them though, DO NOT stand them up to dry. lay them flat. if you stand them up the water will seep down to the glue that holds the brush together and will weaken it.

Question
Is your brush shedding or becoming matted, too?
I had my original brush from the starter kit for about a year and had to replace it because the bristles became matted and would shed everywhere. I also noticed it wouldn't apply evenly anymore. I replaced it but, I am already seeing signs of the same thing happening again. I use it really gently and don't see what is causing it. Anyone have the same experience, or any advice?

Yes, that is the thing I hated about this brush. I had actually stopped using my Bare Minerals foundation because of the brush, even after replacing it with a brand new brush and facing the same frustrations. Stop what you're doing and go buy Sephora's mineral foundation brush ASAP. It's amazing. No bristle shedding and super soft bristles that give you a flawless application of foundation. I'm back to using my BM foundation every day.

Proper brush cleansing should be helpful in preventing this. Here are some tips for you:
When cleaning your brushes, use either a brush cleaner or a mild facial cleanser or mild shampoo to cleanse them, and lie flat to dry. If you dry them standing up, the water could get into the ferrule (the part which holds to bristles to the handle) and dissolve the glue that holds the bristles in place, and this may cause hairs to come out of the brush.
For quick cleansing to refresh your brushes and remove surface color in between the once a week brush bath, try:
Bare Escentuals Quick Change

For a once a week bath, we would suggest:
Bare Escentuals Well Cared For

I was advised by one of the girls at our new Sephora (yay!) to use Philosophy Purity cleanser on the brushes. I bought a small to-go bottle for like $10, put a drop or two in the palm of my hand, swirl it around, and then rinse. Works like a charm, and smells really good too. My brushes are so soft after having done this and it's cheaper!

I use the Well Cared For brush shampoo to clean and condition my brushes once a month. Just wash, try not to get any water in the ferrule of the brush, and lay flat to dry overnight.

I wipe my brushes off after every few uses, and wash them monthly. The buildup can make them clumpy, and they won't apply your makeup as evenly

In my opinion not very often. The first time I ever washed my brushes convinced me to never do it again. It completely changed my brushes. They don't feel the same, work the same, or look the same. And I used the BE shampoo...Odd. I'd rather buy new ones than have to deal with how they changed but way too expensive!

I would say that the Flawless application face brush would last maybe a little over a year, but the rest of their face brushes probably not over a year. Eye brushes I still have for over a year and their still in pretty good shape and still soft.

Question
Buy a second flawless face or something else?
I got this brush in the bare minerals starter kit and I use it to apply both warmth then the mineral veil. But I think I still have warmth on the brush. I would like to avoid applying warmth all over by accident because my face is naturally red.

1. Is this a common problem or my imagination. Should I buy a second brush?

2. Is there a brush (either in the Bare Escentuals collection or any other) better suited to warmth and/or mineral veil application. If so what brush?

I use 2 brushes.
You can wash them too...
I also have a ruddy complexion. I just add a bit of warmth to my base color, mixing well.

I would just tap the excess warmth out of the brush again after applying and then I'd apply the mineral veil with the same brush. As long as the brush wasn't over loaded with warmth you shouldn't have a problem as the mineral veil should be all that's in the top of the bristles. Hope this helps!

Question
face brush
I want to puchase a basic brush to apply Bare Minerals Original Foundation powder and did see several brushes on site, however, I am allergic to horses and therefore feel that a brush made of goat hair would not be a wise purchase.
Can you recommend a man made brush from Sephora.com that would be a good applicator for Bare Minerals face foundation powder?

Going synthetic is your best bet. Sephora has a nice classic brush made for powder application thats about the same size of their Kabuki brush and it leaves a nice finish.

A full flawless face brush has a lot more bristles and is much thicker and a bit rounder. I prefer the full flawless brush over the regular brush for foundation, it provides more coverage (more foundation on at one time).
