Questions & Answers for Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk

Question
Makeup removing?
Does this product effectively remove makeup (particularly eye makeup)? Or is a separate makeup remover required?

I tried the Caudalie foaming cleanser and while it was OK for my bare face, it did not remove makeup. Is this one more effective?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

When using this new formula, we advise to apply the cleanser with a cotton pad onto dry skin. The pad and cleanser act like a magnet, drawing impurities and makeup away from the face and onto the cotton pad. You can rinse after or tone if so desired.

I am generally not a big fan of foaming cleansers. I don't feel like any of them get eye makeup off very well. This does a great job of getting rid of eye makeup and its SO gentle. I haven't tested it on waterproof liner yet but I would imagine it would only require a little more effort to get it all off.

Answering the question that I originally posted!

I have now tried the cleanser in a sample set. While I LOVE the Caudalie's radiance serum, moisturizers, elixir, and radiance mask... I did not love this cleanser. Is is gentle and smells pleasant. I do not wear a lot of makeup, but I do often wear a thin line of long-lasting gel eyeliner and good quality smudge proof mascara, it did not effectively remove these at all, nor did it remove my lipstick the one time I wore a bold red. Moreover, the cleanser left my face feeling a little greasy/waxy. I would not put a separate moisturizer on after using it, since my face already felt a little heavy. I twice used a toner afterward and it appeared there was still a bit of concealer/powder left, which showed up on the cotton ball, leven though my face appeared clean. I hope they come up with a better cleanser so I can use the entire regimen.

I used it with my Clarisonic. It stained the brush with my makeup because it doesn't remove makeup very well. So then I had to wash my brush. Other than that it worked ok with it. It's not a foaming cleanser, more like a lotion. So it didn't feel like the brush was doing as much as it normally would.

I used this with my Clairisonic Mia every night since I received it last year for Christmas. They work beautifully together at removing makeup. However, my foundation does have a tendency to stain the brush head a very ugly color. Recently I began using an oil-based makeup remover before cleansing with my Caudalie and this has completely solved the staining problem :-)

Question
How to use?
I just purchased this product, but I've never used cleansing milk-kind-of product before. So I'm wondering how to use it- do I need to apply onto wet skin or just dried full makeup-on skin and cleanse with water?
I only used cleaning foams which I needed to make my face wet with lukewarm water then massage with foams then rinse it off with water. Is this product works as same as cleaning foams or different?
Can anyone answer me, I'd supre appreciate! Thanks in advance!

I just massage it into my dry skin (with makeup on), then rub it around and wipe it off with a large cotton pad. Then I rinse my face with water, but I'm not sure that really does any good because it doesn't really wash off.

You don't need to wet your face. You can rub in in and then wet your face and rub a little more before rinsing. Or you can just wipe it off with a tissue. However, I didn't find that it removed my makeup very well at all. Now I'm using it in the morning when makeup removal is not an issue.

I use this product as a cold cream at night and as a regular cleanser in the morning. At night, I apply it to a dry face, massage it in for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a cotton pad. I follow this with a cotton pad that has been moistened with either Grape Water by Caudalie or Thermal Spring Water by Avene, which I do to make sure all dirt and makeup has been removed. In the morning, I use this with my Clarisonic and rinse with warm water, followed by cool water.

This cleanser is very versatile. You can use it in a number of different ways. I usually wet my face first, out of habit, before applying it to my face (with full make up on). I then use the clarisonic cleansing brush. Sometimes, without the brush, I'll simply apply it to wet skin and gently massage, adding a little water as I cleanse with either my hands or a wash cloth. I don't use a toner afterward. As an alternative you can apply it to wet or dry skin and simply use a tissue or cotton ball to wipe it off. In this case, I like to follow with the cleansing water. I like this method if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to go through the whole wetting my face routine. Since you usually use a foamy cleanser, I would use it similiarly but you won't need to use quite as much water or rinse quite as much because there are no detergents to rinse off your face. It may take a little getting used to if you like foaming so using a wash cloth or clarisonic brush might make using it more satisfactory for you. Also, sometimes, I do need to take extra time to get all of my eye make up off. I sometimes put a little cleanser on a q-tip and gently run in under my eye and then wipe it off with the dry end of the q-tip.

I haven't actually used it on a face full of makeup but it definitely is good for removing any that you missed with any other makeup remover. When I use the cleanser, I dampen my skin just a bit, a little pat from a wet towel should do it. For me it doesn't foam, which in my opinion is a lot better because it doesn't get all over the sink. You just massage it like a lotion and wipe it off with a damp towel or like it suggests, with a cotton pad. My skin felt super soft after the first time I used it and it really cleared up.

You could try rinsing your face with a bit of luke warm water before applying the product and then gently remove it with some cotton wool, after which you can give it another rinse. Unfortunately I found that with heavier eye makeup you do need an extra makeup remover. This product is more suitable for sensitive or dry skin, where a foam might be to harsh.

You have to use it on on a dry face: put some milk on a cotton pad and gently press and hold it against your eye ( if you trying to remove mascara or eyeshadow), then gently wipe mascara and eyeshadow , trying not to stretch your skin. Keep wiping till all the mascara is gone from the lashes. You do not need to wash it away with water unless you feel like... I usually use tonic afterwards..

Hey :)
I used to have same problem....I had combination/ oily skin and now my skin is normal but had mild breakouts rarely.
I use this gentle cleanser only in mornings. And I use clinques acne solution cleanser at night. The point of using this cleanser is that it cleanses skin after nightime...u want to remove the dirt, but this product doesn't strip your skin of it's natural oils and isn't harsh which is what u want.

My skin is similar to yours. Its still oily but because of retin-a I can get very dry at times and I am acne prone too. This is an amazing cleanser! It is so gentle but very effective. It doesn't lather and they even recommend on that bottle that you can remove it with a cotton ball or pad if you don't want to rinse it off. I feel like it calms my skin and I have noticed an improvement in my skin texture in the short time I have been using it. I think this could help with any redness too! Hope that helps!

The Gentle Cleanser works well for all skin types, and is especially recommended if you experience sensitivity. The milky texture and plant extracts help to soothe redness and soften skin.

Caudalie recommends applying with a cotton pad or directly to the skin. Massage in gently and rinse with water or a cotton pad soaked in Grape Water

I had found my cleanser in June of 2012 and this was it. Then I lost it at the hotel I was in, upset but knew I could just buy it again since I just bought it. Then all the packaging changed, as well as the formula. This left a residue like old deodorant, waxy and hard to get off. I immediately took it back and the sales person said that others had similar complaints and returns. Please bring back the old formula, my skin was fabulous with it.

I too used the old formula for years and I can say with 100% confidence that the new formula is nothing like the old. Whereas the old formula was rich and milky, the new one is thin and greasy. In fact it didn't even feel like it washed off in water and left an oily film on my face. It was so bad that I washed my face again with an exfoliant to make sure that I wouldn't break out. I returned the product immediately as I was very disappointed.

At times, I tried new cleansers, but always came back to this one. I gave the new one a shot, but I plan to return it. It is thicker and greasier than the original. It takes more effort to rinse it off and even then it feels like there is residue. It has more fragrance, which seems completely unnecessary. And worst of all, it stings my eyes. That was the best thing about the previous version. You could rub it all around your eyes and it would never irritate them. Me sad.

Agreed -- a new strong scent. I used to LOVE the old formula. I have incredibly sensitive skin (tending to be dry as well) for which it is very difficult to find products that soothe, don't create redness or breakouts. The original formula was perfect. The scent and film the new formula leave on the skin are horrible, which I was willing to learn to live with except that it made me breakout. I do not recommend this product at all for sensitive skin.

This is not the same as the old product. It leaves skin oily and greasy, and it broke me out like a teenage girl. Bring back the old formula!

I think old and new ones are totally different.
I felt as if I have spreaded grease on my face after the first use of new one.
Smells greasy, too. I will never buy new one again.

There is no need to rinse after using this cleanser unless so desired. When using this new formula, we advise to apply using a cotton pad an onto dry skin. The cleanser and pad draw makeup and impurities away from the skin and onto the pad. This new formula is also part treatment, leaving a layer of hydration on the skin. It is ideal for dry and sensitive skin types.

Yes, you should wash the cleanser off your face completely after applying it. Once your face is washed, it should feel fresh and soothed (at least mine does!).

"Apply with a cotton pad or directly to the skin. Massage in gently and rinse with water or a cotton pad soaked in Grape Water."
Instead of Grape Water, you might also try bottled or filtered water (as opposed to tap). I have a Kangen Filter and use the Beauty Water setting.

Question

I've read all the reviews but it seems like they all have dry to normal skin, but I have oily skin (also very sensitive skin) and I would like to know if this product would work for my oily skin.

This product can be used by all skin types. If your skin is more oily, we advise to use the Instant Foaming Face Wash. This foaming wash is soap - free and hypo allergenic. It soothes the skin with chamomile extract and leaves the skin refreshed and well balanced.

I am pretty oily, wear only powder in the morning and collect oil t/o the day. this makes my sensitive yet oily skin feel great when I use it before bed. And it clears any blemishes I may be developing due to face touching t/o my day.
I really like it, plus I have a rosacea issue and this seems to calm it.

I found it did not clean my makeup off effectively and that I have had more blackheads and pimples since using it. I wouldn't think it would be appropriate for oily skin. Surprisingly, my skin was at it's best when using Nude cleansing oil, but it is very expensive.

I noticed that too when I read the reviews and thought it might be too heavy for me. I was worried about it causing breakouts. My skin is oily and its fantastic! So gentle but not too heavy. Your skin feels clean and comfy afterwards.

I have dry skin so that's why I use this cleanser. You will probably have more luck with the foaming cleanser as it tends to dry oil up.

GENTLE CLEANSER is more for dry to normal skin. I would suggest using our Foaming Cleanser for Normal to oily skin. It is a wonderful soap free cleanser that sounds perfect for you.
