Sephora does not, for some strange reason, carry the waterproof version of this mascara which I really like. However, interestingly I ended up buying the non-waterproof version (from another retailer) which as one other customer has noted does not smudge. I have trouble with eyes watering in wintertime and the non-waterproof version does not run even when my eyes water which is a plus.

No, it would say it in the products name if it's waterproof or not. But they do have a waterproof version(:

Hi! I've used this particular mascara for years, and even though I dont use the waterproof version, I've never had a problem with it smudging or running even when I work out. I've never tried the waterproof version but unless you need it specifically for some water-based activity, I would seriously give this a try!

No this particular one is not waterproof but it does not smudge so that's a plus. It comes off easily with with an eye make-up remover or soap and water. BUT.... remember that Lancome does make a Definicils Waterproof as well as a regular one if that's what you're looking for.

Wash off easily?
Most of the mascaras I have tried are hard to remove (and they are not waterproof). Is definicils easy to wash off? I'm looking for something that is easily removable.

Yes it is easy to wash off. Though you still have to use your fingers to get it all off plus a cotton swab to get at the lash line. But there is no need to use any other product but water to get it all off.

Washes off very easily. Of course, get your eyes wet first and get the mascara kind of melted off your lashes. Then it washes off pretty easily. A lot of it seems to rinse off before being washed off. Yet it stays in place well and even survives a good cry.

It does not clump. Please read my review. It is a little less volumizing than other mascaras but I can increase the volume of this mascara by carefully re-applying after a couple of minutes. It is not gooey and lasts and is very defining to give a more natural look.

The volume isn't great. It does lengthen well, just put a few layers on and it will clump just barely. I use an eyelash brush and it takes the clumps out. I plan on trying something new with more volume for the price though

It does not clump or volumize. It darkens and defines what you have making the lashes stand out more. If you have thin or light colored lashes it makes them more apparent from root to tip.

If you have small lashes I would recommend this. I purchased a sample size and I am very impressed. It doesn't do much for volume but it have incredible length and definition. It is non clumping, and the formula is very light and gives you lashes incredible sheen.

I was concerned about the potential for a loss of lash mass, because I noticed that I lost a few lashes since using this product. However, my lashes overall do not show a detrimental loss. So, it was not a deal breaker... it was the reason that I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 though.

Question
This or YSL Faux Cils?
I never invested in a brand name mascara since my lashes are very hard to manage, but I have been hearing great reviews on definicils and ysl's faux cils and wondering which one I should try out? I tried Dior show before which was great in volumizing but my lashes still fell. No matter how much I curl my lashes, various mascaras (volumizing and lengthening) seem to weigh them back down or they go straight! The only mascara that works for me is maybeline but I am really thinking about trying out either lancome or ysl. What do you think??

I love this mascara, but I too have trouble with falling lashes. A mascara that works like Lancome Definicils, but has a bit more holding power is Benefit They're Real mascara. I was told by a Shopper Drug Mart cosmetic manager that if I used Lancome, I would love the "They're Real" mascara. It definitely holds eyelash curler curl better than other mascaras I have used. Either way, you are in for a treat! I have both and alternate depending on what look I am going for!

My lashes are super straight and Définicils curls them (not that much, but no other mascara does...). YSL has the best smell ever and is THE BEST mascara... but only in his first few days or weeks of use. It's pricey and dries out extremely fast. I really like Définicils and it does all it claims to do. I like it better than YSL Effet Faux Cils.

Definicils with primer is the best mascara ever - you should really give it a try. Always remember to use primer first and then apply mascara within seconds on the top of lashes and then under your lashes.

LANCOME! Please try Definicils. Believe me, I've tried them all, for $ and convenience reasons, and I always come back to this. It is very gentle on my 45 yr. old lashes; they don't break or fall out. The brush is thin and comes out with the perfect amount of product. Fantastic at defining and lengthening. A perfect, everyday mascara-- a beauty must-have!

Janet,

I think that this mascara is perfectly appropriate in black because of its ability to not clump. I have very light hair (sandy blonde) and skin (fair to light) so i tend to pick colors that are not so dark as they can appear harsh. I have never had a problem with this color and it really just enhances the look of your natural lashes as opposed to it looking like one is wearing a lot of product!

Hope this helps!

Hi, Janet! In my experience, this mascara is not clumpy and will not make your lashes stick together. It is long lasting, adds length and volume, and you can build on as many layers as you need to achieve your desired look. I think the color would be fine for you, but if you are concerned about it you could always try one of the lighter shades that it is available in :)

I'm a dark brunette and at the age where I've started to deal with all the consequences of sun damage (wish they had all the sunscreen options that they have now when I was young) so I now prefer the dark brown mascara because it's not as harsh. I think it compliments an older complexion better.

I have used Definicils High Definition (Not Waterproof) Mascara for decades and think nothing else touches it for ease of application, natural look and separation. Black mascara can look ageing, especially in the daytime, but Definicils also comes in two browns, a "regular" and a deep brown, which you might want to try with your lighter hair for a more natural daytime look. I'm older than you and have recently been wearing a purple mascara in the daytime and love the look (which is surprisingly natural and youthful) with my hazel eyes. Just a thought.

I have auburn hair and green eyes, and I ALWAYS got with black mascara. It actually gives that bit of a dramatic "pop" that light haired women need. I used to buy espresso mascara/eye color and it ended up looking very blah and almost like I didn't have anything on. So it kind of felt like, "what's the point?" I say go with black and definitely go with Lancome Definicils. My absolute favorite mascara of all time.

If you apply several times but not adding more product but keep brushing up, wiggling heavily at the bottom and less at the top the product works fantastic. It also helps if you apply a bit of pressure, pushing back on the tops of lashes to direct them into a curl and the product will help. Think of it as curl defining serum for hair that works better if you scrunch/ twirl your hair when applying.

DiorShow is much better for curling, holding curl, and volumizing, but it smudges and gives "racoon eyes" easily. Definicils is a more natural look and doesn't smudge even on my oily lids. Lashes look darker and longer with Definicils, but it definitely doesn't hold a curl on my Asian lashes.

I've been using this for quite a few years with no problem at all but recently it's been giving me raccoon eyes and I'm pretty disappointed because I love this mascara.
