Apply it before you go to bed and you'll wake up with a tan. I found that this is the best way to apply the product as the smell might put you off durin the day.

When I use it I put it on at night before I go to bed, then when I wake up the color has fully developed. Just make sure you let it dry completely before going to bed. I would say approx. 5-6 hours for full color.

This product applies absolutely flawlessly to your face, well atleast to mine. It lasts a long time too. I spoke to a Clarins employee who told me that this product is meant to be used on body and face, unlike some of their other products.

The product takes several applications to build up to the color you want and unfortunately it only lasts a couple of showers at best before requiring another application. Although the instructions don't warn against using the product on the face, it's not advertised as a face self-tanner. I would opt for a product specifically made for the face or skip the self-tanner on the face altogether and use a good bronzer.

This does not come off after showering. It generally lasts several days to a week depending on frequency of shaving/exfoliating. It also works wonderfully on the face.

Yes it is as flawless at least on my face. A little bit of the product comes off when you shower but all tanners do that (as far as I know) but the real deep color stays on.

This product has a very faint smell that fades as product dries. Does not maintain the odor after it has dried. I also have a problem with most odors of other self tanners and do not have that same reaction with this one.

I feel that the scent is more of a "clean scent" not a floral scent.

I have very sensitive acne-prone skin and this product hasn't made me break out. To apply it to my face, I use the excess that's left on my hands after applying it to other parts of my body. I've never put a thick coat on my face, so I'm not sure if doing so would cause a breakout.

If you a prone to acne I would suggest asking your dermatologist what tanners they promote. Clinique has a lot of oil-free products so they may have a self-tanner for people prone to acne.

When you are applying this product to your face, you can squeeze out a pea sized amount and evenly smooth it over your face - make sure to avoid getting the formula into your eyebrows, but blend it towards your hairline so that there is no noticeable line. Additionally, you would also want to apply the product to your jawline and neck while applying it to your face so that there is no break between your new golden tan and your pale skin. Wash your hands thoroughly after application. I would not recommend gloves as they tend to cause streaks.

answer 2
1. Clean face to remove make up/dirt
2. Exfoliate using a gentle facial scrub
3. Pat dry after rinsing
4. Squeeze almost a dime-size amount of the gel into the palm of your hand and spread onto your palms (for easier, more even application)
5. Working quickly, smooth onto face and neck, taking care wound eyebrows, hairline and jawline
6. Wash hands well immediately after application
7. Allow gel to dry completely before applying make-up, if wanted

Hi! When applying Clarins Self Tanner Instant Gel to the face its as easy as putting on your daily face lotion. I apply to a freshly exfoliated face after applying my face lotion. The only trick to applying the self tanner is avoiding eyebrows and hairline. But, don't distress! If you apply a thin layer there should be no worries about your hairlines. And, if you do by chance notice the self tanner a little heavy in some spots once the tan has activated, simply use your facial exfoliate or I find that a washcloth rubs these spots right out. This is a great product for face and body I recommend it.

Question
what color is this?
I am light skinned....... and don't want to use the tanning beds anymore. I don't have time to lay out in the sun. I'm also a youngish 73, who is going to the Caribbean in three weeks with my tanned husband, which means I need to order quickly. I'm reading one report that the product streaked, and was unable to wash out. How do I know if this is what I need? (sigh)

My experience with this product is that it adds a very very subtle glow. On the up-side, it is one of the only sunless tanning products that i've used (and I've tried a LOT of them!!) that does not tend to rub off on clothing, towels or sheets. It is very moisturizing which is okay if your skin is dry, but my mature combination skin couldn't handle all the extra moisturizing and became quite oily while using this product. I have gone back to using St. Tropez for my face and Tan Towel for body, and am very happy with both.

I didn't get any streaking, but I did get a orangish tone. It will depend on your skin tone. I recommend Bare Escentauls Faux Tan for a self tanner. But be careful, they have a bronzer by that name and you have to specify self tanner.

This turned very dark on me after 24 hours and showed every slight streak. Perhaps with more practice it would be okay -- it's just so difficult to apply these products. It's very expensive. A friend of mine loves the Mary Kay product, but it streaks on me. Maybe it depends on the chemicals in our skin. I loved Loreal Sublime in Fair-Medium but now they don't make that lighter shade.

My first thought is that you may have used too much. The gel spreads very easily and takes just a tiny bit. I would suggest a very thin application. You can always apply it again the next day if you want a deeper color. It's much easier to add more later than to wait for an overenthusiastic application to fade.

Use an exfoliator before use. I recommend Sephora Double Duty Exfoliator + Mask for the face, and Bliss Super Minty Soap n' Scrub Energizing Exfoliator for the body. This will get rid of all the dead skin and make application more even and leave no streaks. Also, before you apply, lotion your elbows, feet, wrists, and hands. For the inner arm, you may want to add a little bit of body lotion to the tanner so it's a lighter application, since your inner arm is always lighter than your outer arm. Hope this helped!

The only time I saw an orangey look with this product was once in between my fingers when I forgot to wash my hands after applying it. I think it was because there was too much of the product there. I have good luck when I apply a couple of very thin coats instead of applying a generous amount. Seems to look natural and more golden than orangey.

use full strength on forearms and lower legs and thighs. But around knees, ankles, elbows, etc, dilute with a bit of hand lotion and use about half as much as you would in other areas. Don't over-do it the first time. Wait to see how it works on you before a second application.

It's kind of a cloudy clear; which does make it a little difficult to know if you have missed any spots. You just have to look and see if any areas may be dull in color, as that may be a spot missed.

Question
What is the best way to apply?
For most self tanners I've used my hands, but now St Tropez sells a mit and I've ready other reviews where people use large blush brushes. What is the best way to apply this self tanner, mainly to avoid streaks, get even color (I tend to miss spots and get white patches, and avoid having orange hands)?

I apply with my hands. The texture of the gel spreads easily and evenly. Apply a light coating . Because of the gel texture, you can feel that it has spread evenly. It doesn't "grab" and deposit in just one spot.

Take your time and work in one area at a time - get someone to do your back if you can. I also apply with alittle bit of lotion - either mixed in or on top- and this seems to help spread it more evenly. Remember those odd places that you usually forget about when moisturizing - like your armpit area and ankles. I don't apply directly to hands and feet, but spread lotion onto these areas for a smooth transition. Wash (w/soap) and dry your palms and between your fingers.

answer 5
The only way I have applied this is with my hands. I just squeeze out about a quarter-sized amount at a time, rub my hands together and massage it in, and then repeat until finished. I can tell by feeling my legs or arms the places where I have already appied enough. The only place you have to be really careful about blotches is around your ankles or on feet where you have drier skin. Definitely be sure to wash your hands, especially between your fingers, as soon as you are done. I really haven't had any problems with un evenness, it's really a great product and easy to apply correctly.

I always put body lotion on my hands & feet before putting on a self tanner - this prevents most streaking & orange blobs on my feet/ankles and prevents the tanner from soaking into my hands before I can wash them.
