Questions & Answers for Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15

Question
Choosing a shade
I don't know how to choose the correct shade for me and unfortunately I don't have a Sephora store near me so I have to order online. Should I order darker than I think or lighter? I'm Indian so I have an underlying yellow tone but am naturally tan/dark tan.

Well it's hard to say because I have really light skin, but I would suggest skewing toward the darker side rather than the lighter side. A darker shade will blend out, but a lighter shade might look a little funny.

This doesn't add a ton of color to your face. It just helps your skin out. The "Tan" would probably be good for your skin color.

I would suggest to go darker. If the color comes out just a little darker then your skin tone, you can add your regular color free moisturizer to adjust the tinted moisturizer.

you should go a little darker because it's really sheer so even if you got a darker color you wouldnt really be able to tell. however, if you get anything lighter, it makes you look unnatural, so as a rule, i always for the darker product in general.

Since it's a tinted moisturizer it is pretty forgiving in this department. It's very receptive to blending, so don't worry too much about the perfect shade.

i think your best bet is to order a few shades and compare, and return the colors that don't work. you want to make sure you have best possible color, or else you can look a little "off".

I find it best if I purchase 2 colors. My skin tone changes with the seasons and by getting one closest to my skin tone then add a little of a darker shade for the summer tones. I can easily change the color by adding more or less. It works for me.

Tried it with Bare Minerals but did not like the consistancy> A lighter moisturizer is better (one that is suggested by Bare Minerals).

Yes, but you really don't need to. Under foundation I would just use a regular moisturizer. I actually use a light moisturizer directly out of the shower and then when I do my makeup I use this. Sometimes I'll use a sheer powder on tip of this plus blush.

Depending on our skin type, you most certainly can use this moisturizer under your foundation. I have very senstive skin and the combination of the two leads to break-outs for me. So I tend to just use this alone.

Yes, it would be perfect for that. It's so light that it wouldn't be too cakey at all.

The difference between this tinted moisturizer and the illuminate one is this tinted moisturizer does not have shimmer in it. The illuminate one is to add shimmer not provide sheer coverage. If you are looking for sheer coverage go with this product.

The illuminating prodcut has more shimmer in it. This one is dewy while the illumiating is more sparkly-ish. It's supposed to make it more light reflective so your skin looks more flawless. I always just feel like a fairy smacked me with a glitter wand tho.

Question
Stila vs. Laura Mercier
I've tried out Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and it doesn't seem to moisturize enough even when I use the primer that goes with it first. It might just be the weather here at the moment, but is the Stila tinted moisturizer more moisturizing? I hate the feeling that I have makeup on and with my skin feeling dry, that's exactly how the LM tinted moisturizer feels.

Question
Which shade to select
I currently use Dermalogica Tinted Moisturizer in shade medium (they have light medium and dark), I have yellow/golden undertones and I am unsure of which shade to buy for this brand. I am debating between medium and tan. My skin is tan, but the description for the tan one says it is for dark skin (I am caucasian). Any suggestions?

I have light skin and use medium color. Like a little color. It goes on so sheer it doesn't look phoney tan-like.

I'm caucasian and tan well in the summer. I use the dark in the summer, but it's usually a little dark for winter time.

I think it was a medium light, I have very fair skin but when I blended it carefully it looked fine. I ordered a lighter shade, but the sample was neutral enough for me to see how easily it goes on and covers my little freckles and spots. Hope this helps

The shade of their sample is usually Med01. A lot lighter then you think. Youre better off trying the colors in the store. I was surprised when I turned out to be a dark01 with the instore help. Im pretty fair skinned.

I would buy this tinted moisturizer & Stila's Illuminating Powder Foundation in the colors that best match your skin. I use this tinted moisturizer first, then set it with the Illuminating Powder Foundation. It truly gives me perfect looking skin & is not heavy at all! It feels & looks like you are wearing nothing! I use this daily & get compliments all the time on how my skin looks "amazing" and "perfect". The powder foundation is very light & not cake-y at all, but it does cover well. Both products are sheer but last long & make your skin look fabulous! This is the combo I would recommend to you...hope you try it out, you will not be dissapointed! I promise! (the picture is of me wearing the two products)

I would recommend trying Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. This product offers just the right amount of coverage which is comparable to a very light liquid foundation. This product is available in an oil-free version as well.

Question
What color would work best for me?
Hi. I'm interested in either the Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and am wondering which color would work best for my skin tone. The descriptions are pretty vague. I have light to medium light skin (not porcelain or super light) with pink/red undertones. Thanks!

your skin description sounds pretty close to mine. i would try the medium #698696...i tried the 30spf, and the laura mercier, but this was the best match, and warmed my complexion a bit as well.

the good news is, if it doesn't match, its easy to return!

My skin color sounds similar to yours, only I'm more neutral opposed to pink/red undertones. I use the shade "Medium". And truthfully, it is a LITTLE too dark (I bought it in the summer) but it is so sheer that it blends really easily without noticable color differences. And, I actually like that its a little darker because it keeps me from looking pasty which I tend to do with foundation. Case in point- if you can find a shade CLOSE to your skin, you should be fine!
