Sometimes I apply it over my foundation, sometimes under. Whatever my coloring seems to need. I've also used it as a spot makeup base. It's quite versatile.

I don't use liquid foundation, but I find it so oily that I believe you would just wipe it off when you applied your foundation, if under. I use it under light pats of compressed powder (Lancolm Dual).

concealer shoud always go under foundation - but like I said in my review, you might find that you don't need foundation with this concealer. I draw lines under my eyes, down my smile lines, down the center of my nose, on my chin and forehead - I blend those and find I don't need anything else - but I do use Bare Minerals powder on my nose and forehead after.

Question
COLOR SELECTION
Should I purchase this a little lighter than my skin tone to highlight area under eyes or choose a color the same as my skin tone and make-up color. I am a light to medium make-up wearer and was wondering which color would be good for my under eye area.

I would definitely choose a lighter color than your skin tone. Personally, I end up using it not only under my eyes but on the bridge of my nose, middle forehead, middle chin, and middle cheeks to bring those out. Then I use a darker colored bronzer to contour.

If you have dark circles to cover I would recommend buying closer to your skin color. This will initially cover your darkness better, then go in with a lighter shade on top of that to highlight. This will look much more natural with better coverage. I am a makeup artist and this is the trick we use.

I would suggest going a little lighter than the rest of your skin color. From experience, I know that if you do the exact same color, your face may look a little plain and lacking contrast.

I have a similar skin tone to you and I have the concealer in Light 1, and honestly its not that light like some concealers. If you prefer dramatic Kim K, wide awake, concealer than I would recommend the Fair 1. I wouldn't recommend this concealer if you have fine lines under your eyes, unless you wouldn't mind putting a little eye-safe moisturizer before applying to prevent creasing. Other than that, I use my concealer to highlight my cupids bow when I wear a bright lip color.

Yes, this color works best if you get it a lighter color for that coverage and highlighting effect.

Question
Is this noncomedogenic or will it potentially clog pores?
I have acne prone skin, will this clog my pores, cause blackheads or breakouts? I worry because of the "oil" ingredients.

I understand that people have been displeased with this concealer but I'm wondering if maybe it's how they've applied it. What's been the best way to apply this concealer?

I love this concealer a lot. I use it for under eye or any redness, or to conceal anything ugly on my face. ;-) At first when I purchased this, I kept applying it different ways until I figured out how I liked to apply it personally. Now I just rub some on my ring finger and apply it to my under eyes. I have mild under eye issues and this is a light/medium coverage for under eye so I don't have a problem with it.

I actually really love this concealer. I use it under my eyes, and apply it after using my depuffing/brightening cream (Caudalie's SOS Morning Rescue). It does help brighten my dark spots. I also use it to cover up minor imperfections and sometimes to balance out redness. I set it with a little bit of Dior's pressed powder and it lasts all day for me without caking. Not sure if it's my skin type, but I honestly love the ease of this product and how great it makes my skin feel (not drying!).

I fell out of love with this concealer but had loved it in the summer. It's winter now. So I tried all kinds of things, I added more oil from a kit I was able to get to try more Jose items. I had an eye shadow blender, brand new, that I used for underneath. It worked for a bit but would go on back into my lines.

Question
Can you use this as a contour instead?
Could I use this in a dark shade as a contour instead of a concealer? I'm looking for something like the smashbox contour sticks, but don't want to spend that much, as it will go quickly, thanks!

Yes, I was thinking the same thing--it would make the most perfect contour stick. I tested the dark color and it would be perfect for my light skin as a contour stick.

Tarte makes a crayon similar to this specifically for contouring that's about $22 or $23, I'd try that. This is great as a concealer but I"m not sure if I'd want to use it to contour.

I would avoid using this on the eyelids as it is a very creamy concealer, I believe it would crease quickly and slough off into your eyelashes or eyes throughout the day.. Not good!

I wouldn't, it's way too creamy. Doesn't dry matte enough to be a decent foundation for eye shadow, IMO.

This concealer is easily blendible and it's nice and creamy (but not too creamy) which works for the eyelids.

The colors of this concealer crayon correlate with the colors of her tinted moisturizer. So, Light 1 is for someone with light skin but with cool undertones, and Light 2 is for someone with light skin but with warm undertones. Medium 1 is the same color as "Linen" (her medium shade) and Medium 2 is the same color as "Desert" (her tan shade). I hope that you are familiar with her tinted moisturizers so that this color guide may help you. If you are not familiar with them, her colors do run a little bit on the darker side, so whatever color you think you are, order a shade down.

It's pretty full coverage, and both colors are pretty neutral, so you should pick the one closest to your skin color (like the way you pick your foundation, at your jaw line/neck on the side). If you're between colors, since it's the under eye area, pick the lighter one.
