The actual foundation comes with a sponge but the case the foundation goes in is purchases separately for $10 and has a large mirror with it.

This product comes with a sponge. The mirror is part of the compact that sells separately for $10. The sponge won't fit in the refill case. You have to snap the refill in to the compact and the compact has a space for the sponge that comes with the refill.

Also the refill does not come with a mirror (it's just a black plastic lid as shown in the picture). It is very lightweight though.

This is a refill which comes with a sponge. The compact (empty) is sold separately. I wish I had known when I purchased mine. I had already left the store when I discovered this fact.

Question
best way to apply on dry skin?
I was told when i bought this that it can be applied with a sponge(dry),sheered out with a wet sponge,a brush,or fingers. However the sales associate did not explain the differences in finish with different application techniques. I normally prefer the med coverage as we head into winter and I have dryish skin. Please help!

A makeup artist showed me how to apply it to dry areas by pressing down firmly with a foundation brush. Rubbing with a sponge can cause more flakiness.

I purchased the pink, egg shaped Beauty Blender and it works great. It makes application effortless - just lightly dapple the cream all over, as if you are sponging a wall with paint! The Beauty Blender is expensive, but I think it prevents me from using too much foundation.

I am combo skin and I apply this foundation with a F80 Kabuki brush from Sigma. It gives me a medium-full coverage with this foundation. I would maybe recommend that you apply this with a beauty blender, since you do have dry skin. It will give you a great finish and apply flawlessly.

This is in response to kitamad. Thank you for your advice. As far as applying the setting spray to your brush prior, what does that do? Also,I have chill and all-nighter. Do you use one of those?

answer 6
I don't know how the different methods look compared to each other. I only know the way I apply it. I have dry skin, and I love this foundation because it doesn't emphasize any flakiness. First, I use Smashbox primer. Then I spritz my stippling brush with UD's setting spray and apply the powder with that. After applying concealer, I set with powder.

I would only use the sponge for touchups. I don't recommend applying with fingers.

That's what you purchased in the store. The little compact that fits in the larger NARS compact is the refill. If you didn't purchase the larger NARS compact that was $10, I suggest doing so.

The compact and foundation refill are sold separately. The compact is a one-time purchase. If you already have the compact, you don't need to purchase it again. Simply replace the foundation refill inside.

It really depends on your skin. For some people, it is different, for others, it is the same. I am Monte Blanc in Sheer Glow and I am Monte Blanc in Radiant Cream.

Not exactly. I wear Mont Blanc in Sheer Glow, but I was matched to Gobi in the cream foundation because the Mont Blanc turned a weird shade when she matched it. The Sephora SA said the texture can make it a little different.

No. I used sheer how in Stromboli although it was slightly too yellow, but found that Punjab was a better match in this cream foundation. Punjab in sheer glow was slightly too light and pinky.

I found them to be. My shade in Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc and it was the same in the cream foundation. The shades look darker than usual in the pan, but it's just the initial first layer.

You can apply your concealer before you apply the foundation or after. I like to after it apply my foundation, just to see if my foundation will cover up my blemishes. If you do not have to apply concealer, then I wouldn't.

Question
different ways of applying?
I just bought this because I was anxious to try it out. The SA at Sephora mentioned that it could be applied with a dry sponge or brush. I forgot to ask her if it may cause a difference in finish? I have combo to mostly dry skin now that the weather is getting cold. Any recommendations on which may be better for me?

I use both a stippling brush and a Beauty Blender and I would say the finish it satin to matte. If I just use the stippling brush it's more dewy. The Beauty Blender adds more of a matte finish (which I prefer). I really love this foundation! I also add a little Ben Nye Banana powder on top and it makes it even more beautiful. I'm on YouTube. I actually have the same type of skin type and i\on top of it, my skin is sensitive. I have not broken out once since I've used this product as long as you follow normal face cleansing procedures to remove it (using a good makeup removing wipe - I suggest KORRES Pomegranate Wipes, or using Clarisonic with a facial cleanser and exfoliator by FRESH) . Hope that helps!
