Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil™ 100 percent Purified Squalane

What it is:A luxurious, skin-softening moisturizer that improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, elasticity, and radiance. What it is formulated to do:Recommended for all skin types, this luxurious moisturizer softens skin while improving the look of fine lines, elasticity, and radiance. Lightweight, odorless squalane mimics the naturally occurring squalene found in the body’s own lipid barrier—it rapidly absorbs into skin and does not create a surface barrier like an oil, allowing skin to breathe. This must-have moisturizer deeply hydrates and helps prevent water loss, leaving skin silky-smooth and comfortable to the touch without an oily or greasy after-feel. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates - Phthalates What else you need to know:This product is preservative-free and derived from farmed naturally-sourced sustainable sugarcane (not from sharks or olives). Raw sugarcane is pressed to extract sugar juices—as the juice evaporates, it darkens and concentrates. During PTR’s exclusive fermentation process, sucrose transforms into three liquids: sugar, cellulose, and ethanol. At the separation stage, a squalane precursor separates from the fermented matter. During purification and bonding, pure colorless squalane is sifted and rid of impurities. Liquid is bonded through a unique proprietary processing method. Research results:In a 3-week consumer use study on 50 women, ages 30 to 75 (individual results may vary): - 95% agreed skin felt softer, moisturized, and appeared more radiant - 91% saw a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet around the eyes - 91% agreed skin felt firmer and felt an improvement in skin texture

Broke me out bad where I applied it, like others side try a sample and put it in one area of your face to see how it reacts.

Definitely try a sample, this has worked wonders for some people, but it made me breakout and I'm not prone to breakouts.

It made me break out pretty bad with one use. I would say to try a sample one night and see how your face reacts after a couple of days. That's what I did, it took one use and two days later my skin reacted. It seems like it could be a great product though. Good luck!

Question
How does this compare to Josie Maran Pure Argan Oil?
It looks like this is a similar product to the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. I have yet to use an oil as a part of my skincare routine but am interested in trying. I have sensitive acne-prone oily skin and am wondering which would be better to try.

in my opinion, if you have sensitive skin you should skip it. I wish I did. I wanted to love this oil as a moisturizer but my skin which is not even acne prone broke out. :(

My skin type is normaI, and I try out different face oils periodically to compare to Squalane' results for me. I use both because I have a mini sample of Argan currently. Argan for nights and Squalane for daytime solo and/or under makeup. Squalane hydrates way longer than Argan, and there's no smell. I also get better radiance than Argan. Great for cold months. Argan seems to be better suited for warm months or before bedtime because it soaks in quickly. By morning my face is dry. Also, it has a subtle rustic scent to it that eventually fades. Neither breaks me out, and both bottles lasts a long time. Hope this helps.

I prefer using Josie Maran's oil. It it faster to absorb, smells wonderful and I love the instant softening effect. I was excited about the PTR product when I heard about it, but I ended up returning it. Josie Maran's Argan Oil is better suited for a vast array of skin types.

answer 4
I've used argan oil products and they have an oily consistency which could lead to breakouts. PTR Squalane is not greasy/oily and very light on the skin . The similarities would be that they are both pure and very gentle.

Question
How would I use this?
Let's say under retinol products or like other anti aging treatments? It says it can be used as a moisturizer and treatment.

I have been using this for about a week following my retinol treatment at night. I dont have sensitive skin, but my skin gets dry in the wintertime and has been feeling tight after my retinol. I drop 3 drops in the palm of one hand and then rub my hands together and press my hands on my face, starting around my eyes, then cheeks, neck, forehead, chest and then nose and chin. The squalene sinks right in immediately, so there is reall no rubbing unless you missed some spots. It just sinks in and hydrates, but there is NO oily residue at all. Just perfect amount of hydration. I then follow with my normal moisturizer.

You can apply the same way before your retinol, if you have sensitive or extra dry skin. I havent done this because its working very well afterwards, while not seeming to dilute the effect of the retinol.

I usually mix ONE drop with my moisturizer. If I'm extra dry, then I'll pat on 1 drop to all my dry areas after retinol, before moisturizer. First time I tried it I applied 6 drops to my whole face and it was sticky and greasy until I washed it. Really 1-2 drops is all you need.

You always want to apply your treatments from thin to think. With serums and oils you would apply the serum first and then oil. After that a moisturizer if that was part of your routine. People are scared of putting oil on their face because of the word "oil". Don't be! It's amazing.. You should choose your oil based on the results you want and your immediate skin care needs.

I don't have a professional skin care answer but after working at Sephora for a while I do know they recommend putting treatments on from thinnest to thickest. But, I would imagine you would want your acne treatment closer to the skin and then add the moisturizer. Just my thought.

Question
Breakouts?
Does this product initially cause breakouts? I'm on my 3rd day of using it and woke up with 2 pimples on my forehead. I don't know if I should keep using it to see if it's just a phase or possibly a reaction. Any thoughts? I have combination skin (dry in cheeks/some oil in tzones) and do break out occasionally. Thanks!

I've been using this for about 2 months. I've woken up with small pimples and/or little white headed hives on my upper cheeks a few times. I can't say for sure that it's this product, but I have noticed it. I will say that my pimples/hives faded rather quickly and didn't cause any lasting problems. The benefits of this are so great, I've decided to stick with it! Hope that helps!

Yes definitely! Retinol tends to be drying. Though I would not use them mixed in together, I would instead apply your retinol on first so it has time to soak in and work on our skin. Wait at least 30 mins, then apply your squalane and moisturizer to give your skin moisture back.
It's an amazing hydrator!
