Question
Is the reccomended brush necssesary?
It's obiviously reccomended but will other powder brushes work? I was planning on using the sigma f10 face brush with this but I didnt know if the product would still dispense the same.

I was reluctant to buy the brush too because of the price. I tried using regular kabuki brushes but couldn't get the same effect so I sprang for the brush. It's very very very dense and I couldn't find another brush like it. I'm happy with it.

answer 2
I purchased the brush because, generally, I like using products that are supposedly "designed to go together" and I wanted to get the best results from the foundation. But to be honest, you could probably use any dense or kabuki type brush to apply this (I'm thinking of the Real Techniques Buffing or Expert Face brush - I have both and the shape and feel of them is very similar to this brush). However, having said that, I am glad I purchased the brush just because I can be a bit fussy and I know if I hadn't, I'd be thinking "would this look even better with the proper brush?"

I used a Smashbox foundation when I first purchased this but find I have more control with the Tarte designed brush. I believe any good brush will work though.

Not sure if it's necessary but it's definitely worth purchasing it. It's the best kabuki brush I've ever used and it's made for the dispenser. Sometimes you have to push the brush down in the hole a little harder than I anticipated/want to but that's my biggest complaint (I don't want the ends to start flaring out from pushing it down). I don't know anything about the brush you already have but I use the Bare Minerals brushes and the Tarte kabuki brush is so much better. I definitely think it enhances the way the make up wears/looks.

I love the recommended brush because I feel you have more control with the shorter bristles. It also fits the powder container perfectly so you get just the right amount of product. I have other brushes that work but I plan on using this brush for any powder I'm applying.

I use this foundation occasionally (when I'm in a hurry), and it has a matte finish. Since I prefer some highlights, I add highlighting powder to the tops of my cheekbones and lightly down my nose.

I want to describe it as sort of an "eggshell" finish (usually used to describe paint). It's matte but not chalky, it doesn't really make your skin as matte as some other matte makeups that I've tried anyway, but it's not a dewy finish either.

I don't know what the brand specifies for this product, but it definitely is "matte" going on. After a few hours it looks more natural than most matte makeups, but I didn't get any excessive shine by the end of the day. Would recommend for any matte makeup lover! If you like the "dewey" look, this isn't for you. Also must add that I have very dry skin, but with this you can't tell!

This foundation like any other waterproof makeup is water proof to an extent. It would work wonderfully for laying by the pool or going to the beach but I do not recommend spending a lot of time in the water because it can tend to settle into lines after a certain ammount of time. To extend the waterproof ness of this product you can use a primer underneath it.

I've never gone swimming with this stuff. Sometimes i've gone to the gym after work with this on, and i sweat A LOT. It does wipe off on my towel/paper towels i use on my face while i'm working out, but a little bit does still remain on your face. overall i wouldnt classify this as waterproof. the BEST summer/waterproof make up i have ever used is MUFE liquid face/body foundation, set with MUFE hd powder. I wore that stuff a couple summers ago and would go swimming for hours and my skin still looked good. I mean obviously when i started swimming my face had a more "full coverage" look, but after i went swimming it LOOKED like all my make up had washed off but for some reason my skin still looked totally flawless. it was weird. but yeah, seriously buy MUFE liquid face/body

I would not recommend this for swimming, it gets kind of 'mucky' to be honest when it gets wet on your face. If you are at the beach or sweating I find it to be fine, but complete submersion under water for a prolonged period of time may be messy!

I just made the switch after about 8 years using BM and I LOVE the Tarte so much better. It gives good coverage, and last longer. Plus I notice I don't get as oily. I felt like by the end of the day wearing BM that my makeup was gone and I was oily...

To me ,it is better. I have been using for 2weeks now. Used BE for 10years.
I'm 47. and BE started to accentuate my wrinkles and this seems to not settle in wrinkles as much. As long as you don't put too much!(otherwise both will do the same) Also, with BE, I had to Re-do it every 4hours to make it look good, because it will start to look crackled(?), this seem to do that less and last most of the day. But it is just my opinion and it has been only 2weeks. We'll see!

It is very full coverage. I didn't use anything aside from moisturizer and it covered great. My only complaint was that it made my face very shiny by mid day. Maybe a primer would help.

answer 3
Well, I use it alone, and I'm covering up some pretty significant redness in my cheeks. If I moisturizer well beforehand, it doesn't get too cakey. If my cheeks are extra flushed, I use a concealer underneath. I'm sure a primer would work as well as moisturizer, I just haven't tried that, since for me the whole point of a powder foundation is to allow my skin to breathe, and primers generally make me feel like it can't.

In my opinion you have to use plenty of product for it to look a little bit better than a regular loose powder, the effect of a liquid foundation will never be achieved with a powder, in my opinion. It's decent but not really "full coverage". I do wear a primer and it makes it look better.

Question
So the product "may" contain bismuth, take the risk? has anyone experienced breakouts?
I do not have sensitive skin but I used to use bare minerals original and it broke me out, then switched to the matte formula... I suspect bismuth oxychloride was to blame. I really want to try this foundation but I'm afraid of hurting my skin.

Everyone skin is different and everyone's stress hormones (and estrogen levels, of course) play an important role in the development of breakouts. Sometimes just a new foundation can cause a breakout at first, then will typically subside. My skin can break out with just about anything. I have used Amazonian 12 hour full coverage, airbrush coverage, and finishing powder, and they have treated my skin well. I was very afraid but I'm glad I used the products. I did develop 2 minor acne bumps, but it is time for my period. Don't use any new products within 7-10 days of your period!

It did not come with a bamboo brush. I was wondering about the applicator, too. A brush would work but it can result in more precious powder being lost! I don't want to lose a drop of this magic makeup. I have a plastic lid from one of my old powders in another brand, and I sprinkle some of the Amazonian clay powder on this lid and then very lightly dip my makeup sponge in it and it works beautifully.

Hello Flawless is more like a power to me. Looks a bit dry/powdery on my skin. Tarte Airbrush does not look dry nor does it highlight
the dry patches on my skin. I can even use it under my eyes!! I think the coverage is about the same but prefer the Tarte.

No, definitely not. A quote taken from the tarte website:
"What are tarte's guidelines for international products?
All ingredients and finished formulas tarte uses are tested and based on US FDA requirements before being imported to the US. We only work with highly reputable laboratories and factories that meet the strictest GMP standards, which is an international grading scale for cleanliness and the environment for workers that abide by a strict code of standards. We also test each product ourselves to match our quality standards. Additionally, we are an approved PETA participant; they have audited our non-animal testing procedures."
