Questions & Answers for Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation

Question
Are there any other foundations that match the colour Ivory light (lightest colour)
It would appear i have found the perfect colour match. I am very (VERY) fair and have struggled for years to find the perfect foundation colour to match my skin. The colour Ivory light is perfect for me (the lightest shade), however, the foundation itself doesn't seem to hold up on my combination (very oily in the T-zone skin). I use this with urban decay all nighter setting spray, however by the end of the day the foundation is disappearing in places and slidding off. Is there anyone who can recommend a colour match to the shade ivory light in a different foundation? Preferably something that controls shine but won't dry the skin out? Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this! :)

I am also very fair. I do not have pink or yellow tones; I would say that I am a true alabaster color and must have a very light color when it comes to a foundation. I purchased the Marc Jacobs '10 Ivory Light' and it is perfect! I love how smooth my face feels and looks.

I have the same problem, the only other foundation I've tried and liked that matched me was MUFE HD Invisible Cover Foundation in 110.

Hi There! According to the Sephora Color IQ, you are a 2Y01. When you plug in that number, you will find there are 17 product matches. You can then filter by your skin type and whether you like a luminous or matte look, a liquid or powder, light or full coverage, etc. If you have not used their Color IQ system, type in "IQ" in the search box at Sephora's website and you can then plug in that number 2Y01 to find all of the matching foundations. I hope that helps! By the way, your skin sounds beautiful!

There must be something about the "gel" as it just glides on like silken water. I would say that this foundation could honestly work with any skin type. I live in Colorado and dry skin is the norm, and I am loving this foundation.

No. I get very dry skin and this did not help. It is a gel formula foundation, which typically isn't the best for dry skin. It really emphasized my dry spots and fine lines.

NO! I used to love this foundation but then I started a retinol routine which dried me and this was awful. It turned patchy and peely, definitely would avoid if you have dryness.

Question
Does 10 Ivory Light have pink undertones or yellow?
I'm absolutely pale and need a very light foundation. I currently wear the Naked by UD in the lightest colour (0.5) and it's still too dark for me, especially after it oxidizes. I can usually hide it with a high neckline and scarf since I don't have a new foundation yet and can't go without it, but I'm looking for a lighter shade for the winter. However, all of the lightest shades I can find are either too dark or extremely pink. I heard the 10 has yellow/neutral undertones. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I don't think that the lightest shade of Marc Jacob's foundation is lighter that UD's 0.5. Nars Sheer Glow in "Siberia" and Bobbi Brown in "Alabaster" are super pale with neutral undertones, they are the lightest shades in Sephora (not counting Illamasqua "white").

I have very fair skin and also have used the Naked by Urban Decay in the lightest shade and also found it to be too dark. I have found the 10 Light Ivory to have neutral undertones that are a great fit on my ultra pale skin, I wouldn't say its yellow or pink, just very very light and neutral.

Question
Coverage? Finish?
What kind of coverage can I expect with this foundation?
Although, it claims that coverage is buildable (from natural to full), this is rarely true of any foundation.

Also, I would love someone to explain, in their own words what type of *finish* this foundation's has.
Thanks!

The finish is literally a gel. It's like squeezing Aloe Vera on your face and letting it dry. Although, it does give you moisture, it's not the good kind. It made me look greasy and I have combo to dry skin. The foundation is not buildable either. It goes on very very very light and as you try to build it makes you look greasy without it actually adding more coverage. I would try a water based foundation. Those tend to build exceptionally well.

I haven't used this product very long, but I did like the finish. It looked dewy and moist, but not slimy. More like healthy and hydrated. Be aware, this product does not have an SPF so you'll need to wear one underneath, and I haven't tried that so I can't speak to the finish when worn over an SPF.

I felt that it could've given me a natural finish, but I built it up more in discolored areas and it covered almost fully. It didn't cause my spots to totally disappear, but it was pretty close.

But I think it made me break out, so I don't use it now.

I'm trying to figure out if this foundation has a slight fragrant smell to it. I have a sample of it, and I swear when I am applying it to my face, there is a slight perfumey smell.

This foundation definitely has a slight perfumey scent to it. It is slight enough that I didn't notice it the first time I applied it or swatched it in the store, but over time with more uses, it seems to be more noticeable (but not overpoweringly or unpleasantly so).

A bit, although it smells to me like a liquid foundation would, nothing too strong. I have super sensitive skin that freaks out on super perfumey products. My skin was fine with this foundation though.

Just based on my own experience, let me see if I can help a little here. I was color matched at 1Y06. But I can wear Hourglass Liquid Powder foundation in Shell, which is 1R06 like you. It matches me perfectly. So in Marc Jacobs my perfect match is Bisque Medium.

I would go into the store and try it. I was originally matched as a 1R09 for Bare Minerals but I wear 1R10 in MakeUp Forever and 1R11 in Marc Jacobs (82 Coco light), they are all perfect matches. So I think you have a bit of wiggle room as far as shade matches. I'd say if you couldn't make it into the store choose one that was within 1-2 shades of what you have been matched with. Marc Jacobs is coming out with more colors in September so you might want to wait for that.

I had a great experience in-store. The Beauty Advisor helped me find the perfect shade using the new Color IQ device. It was a cool experience. She had me take my foundation off, then she checked three areas of my skin (2 on face, 1 on neck), then searched the computer database for the color code that the device returned. We looked through the choices together on the computer screen, and I checked the ingredients on my top choices, and then she applied two different foundations to my face, on on the right side, the other on the left side. So I walked out of the store with two perfectly matched foundations (no one could even tell), to see how they wore the rest of the day, if they made me break out, etc. And she even sent me an email with the full list of color-matched recommendations.

It was a really awesome experience! Turns out, I had been using the wrong shade of foundation the whole time. I highly suggest you try it out for yourself.

yeah they'll "assist" you If you ask and grab one, since they don't usually "see you" in a busy store, like the one in Beachwood place Cleveland. And basically the BA puts a couple of close shades on your jaw and goes like "get this one". And you'll end up return, trust me.
My advice if don't bother to ask just think about fair light medium and dark, then pick the normal 2 to 3 shades in your color range, then put on your jaw, then walk around 10 mins then look them in the sun, the one that turns out to be invisible is your shade.
No need to ask for sample, just buy one and return after your try. They have a 100% return policy

I would really go into Sephora and have them do a color match on you. After you know your number, you can then match shades that are lighter or darker to adjust for seasonal changes.
