Questions & Answers for Vita Liberata pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse

Question
Why is this streaking?
I just started using a sample bottle of this (came with small mitt, so using that to apply), and had lots of problems with streaking. I am used to using lotion tanners and am very good at applying those, but I find this difficult. I think since it is a foam, it dries almost too quickly so it's hard to move it around before it dries. I'm only applying a small-medium amount to the mitt, as I'm afraid if I do more, I'll have the color too dark, but when I try to fill in the "gaps", the tiny amount I use instantly dries, causing more streaks. I love the color and dry-time, but can't handle this streaking. What am I doing wrong?

It is better to apply it with gloves and use the mitt just to even out and for hands and feet I also use a wet clot to go soft over fingers after all to get it even and softer the application videos have good tips at Vita Liberata web side specially the spray tan video have great tips
It dry fast but that is great start with legs and than go upper body I get it perfectly even all the time

As long as you're not going out of the house- the 'streaking" is meaningless. When you wash it off- it will all be ok. I will say that about this (and St. Tropez): both are excallent at coverage and no streaking. In the old days if you used sunless tanner you had to be EXACT. These 2 modern foams don't care. As long as it is covered- the color comes out well spread.

You need to purchase the full-sized application mitt. It is only $6 or so at Sephora. I first tried the smaller tester mitt, and it was so small, that it wasn't working for me either. I also had streaking. I decided to purchase the larger mitt when I bought the full bottle of the tanning mousse, and it worked wonders! The larger mitt actually stays in place on your hand and allows you to evenly spread the mousse on before it dries.

You probably need a full size mitt and to use more product. I've had no problem with streaking but the mitt has to be wet in order to get good coverage.

I am fair, and I bought medium. I think the medium is a good place to start to get the hang of using the product. I also think it gives a beautiful golden glow for this time of year (early Spring). The dark might be nice to try later in the summer when I want a deeper color. But I have been pleased with the medium. Have received many compliments already!

I have also fair skin medium will be to light to get a nicer tan all year you need the dark during winter will give you a medium tan and during summer if you get a little be of natural color it would be even better and darker I don't go a lot in the sun just one a week for 20 to 30 minutes just to get a bit of color and than with the self tanner is amazing this is the best self tanner ever

I recently went to Mexico and got a dark spray tan at a VersaSpa booth the day we left and then maintained with St. tropez medium after about 4-5 days. You'll want to start dark because the chlorine will fade it a little faster. Just be sure to moisturize after the pool!

I would get the dark! I'm also fair and have used the medium, but have found that it fades too pale for me. I'm getting the dark, next. My fave trick: get one of those tanning mitts at Sally's (they're only like $5) that's preloaded with self tanner, and apply the VL with one of those. It blends better, and stays on longer/darker.

It dries quicker than St. Tropez, but the color is not nearly as deep (not even noticeable on my fair skin) and, for me, the self-tanner smell was stronger and lasted longer. Definitely not worth the extra $$, IMO

Question
sweat/chlorine resistant?
I'm interested in this product but want to know how well it holds up to sweat and chlorine. I do a lot of running and cycling outdoors, and I swim too. Will the tanner hold up to this? And will it not run all over my clothes when I sweat? Want to know before I spend this much money on a tanner.

I work out and wear tight fitting tops (bra top as well) and with other tanners, I would have the outline of my clothing rub off the tanner, like I had a farmer's tan if that makes sense. And a lot of color would be on my sports bra; however, I have not had this issue with this tanner, or if I have, it hasn't been noticeable. Problem is, each person's skin will probably react differently, but this is the only tanner I will buy now, I am so happy with it, I'm willing to spend the money. No tanner is perfect, but this is as close as I've come to finding one that is.

Does sweat off fairly easily, but does washes out out of clothing. Doesn't rub off on clothing tho, which is good for most events. Haven't gone swimming with it on yet, but comparing it with showering, it will fade gradually with each occasion.

Chlorine will make it fade faster, like with all tanners, as chlorine strips the skin. Also, it's more sweat resistant than others but I don't sweat heavily... I still notice it help up better than many. It will probably be more likely to come off when perspiring once it's starts to get closer to the end of the life of the tan.

I have fair skin also, and tried the medium, and had to use 3 nights in a row to get the color I would normally get with one use of the st tropez medium mousse. So, I'm going to try the dark next. If you like a deeper tan you may want to start with the dark.

I'm pretty fair too and chose to start with the medium - which I'm glad I did because the light would've been a waste of money.
With the medium I have to apply it pretty frequently to maintain any semblance of a tan... so next time I plan on going with the dark.
If you want to look tan, start with medium. The light probably won't give you much color.

I have very pale skin as well, tried the medium and it was great. Just don't use a ton and be conservative. You can see the color as you apply which is great. Start light on your first application, see how it looks in the AM. If you feel it's too light, go heavier next time. I can't say enough about how great this brand is for self-tanners.

i use it on my face and get a really nice result. be careful when applying though. I put a pump of product on the mitt/glove and do an arm or something first then without adding more product , just whatever is leftover on the mitt from doing a different body part, go over your face/neck/ears.

I would hesitate to use this on my face, as it could emphasize your pores. For some reason it makes the pores on my legs more noticeable, which may be the result of the hair follicle absorbing the color pigment.
Jergens face self-tanner is great. It's very subtle and builds well with repeated use, which is what you want for the face. Anything drastic will be look obviously fake - and if you don't blend it well it'll show. Jergens also has an SPF 20, which protects your skin. The VL doesn't have any SPF.

I used it on my face, but because it instantly stains skin it REALLY needs to be applied with a mitt. The size of the mitt made it awkward using on such a small area. They sell a face formula too, but I gave this a try. I did get color, but it didn't last long on my face (but I only did one application).

Definitely slowly wears off with with sweating, working out, and swimming. I don't think there are any water proof bronzers available on the market...After you apply, wait at least 3hrs before sweating, showering, and moisturizing. This helps to "set" the color, making it streak less and last longer. Moisturize often after that to help color last too.
