Questions & Answers for Marc Jacobs Beauty The Face I - Liquid Foundation Brush No. 1

Question
Comparison to No. 2?
What is the difference between the liquid foundation No. 1 and No. 2 brushes?

Aside from the difference in shape you will get a different level of coverage with each brush. I use them both for liquid/cream foundation. The no. 2 is denser and will give a fuller coverage. No. 1 will give medium to full coverage, it is easier to build the coverage with this brush. No. 1 will require a little more work blending. Neither brush is very efficient at getting into the small corners and spaces- around the nose and eyes for example- so I use a smaller brush to blend into those areas. Surprisingly I find the no. 2 easier to clean. Its so dense that the product doesn't seep towards the core of the brush, so you mostly are just washing the product from the surface. This is also good because there is not a lot of product going to waste.

The Face II has more of an angled shape. They are meant for different things. The Face I is more meant for liquid foundations. I have both brushes. I'd suggest getting both since they're made for different uses.

Brush No. 1 is a round, domed brush. Brush No. 2 is angled and a little wider. I have and use Brush No. 2 for liquid foundation and it works great.

Is this similar to Real Techniques buffing brush or expert face brush?
For those of you who have tried this brush, is this similar to Real Techniques buffing brush or the expert face brush? Thanks!

Yes, I purchased the Urban Decay brush as well, it's a very nice brush 2 But in my opinion the Urban Decay is less dense, really, really soft, but very heavy, it made my hand and arm tired to use it. Now the Marc jacobs brush is more dense, have more hairs which makes it fuller, is very soft to and less weighty... Hope this helps u with your decision.

It's denser, softer, heavier, and provides a smoother finish over the Real Techniques brushes.

I have both, but prefer the Marc Jacobs brush because it's fabulous and too soft for words.

I use the Beauty Blender liquid and solid cleansers for all my brushes. It's gentle, smells great, and gets every speck of foundation out of the brush. It also helps to wash at least once a week (or more often).

Hi Slizlarson,

We suggest the Make Up Forever Travel Instant Brush Cleanser which is perfect for synthetic brushes!

I have both the 1 and 2. The No. 2 will give you a fuller coverage. I like it better for thinner liquid foundations, like Too faced Born this Way or the new MUFE HD liquid. The no. 1 will give you more of a medium-full coverage.

Since I'm not a makeup professional, I like the shorter brush better. It's easier to handle. Easier to pack away. The longer brush requires more to transport safely and I don't need all that length just to apply my own makeup.

I use it with my two faced born this way foundation, so I am assuming it would be good for any liquid foundation.

Hi there, you could use either one for liquid foundation, it's all about your preference. The #1 is a bit smaller and fluffier, the #2 is a bit larger and more dense.

Question
Is this anything like the UD Optical Blurring brush?
I have this brush and I love it, but I read such good reviews of the Urban Decay Optical Blurring brush that I'm curious how they compare.

I have both the UD brush and the MJ one. I must say, I LOVE the Marc Jacobs brush. I used the UD brush and was constantly having issues with it losing bristles. It also didn't seem to apply my foundation as evenly as the Marc Jacobs one does. I hope this helps!

Question
The brush details says it's made for the genius gel but will it work with the cover fx drops?

This will work fine with cover fx drops mixed with almost anything- but I wouldn't recommend using the cover fx drops on its own. Its too concentrated for use by itself and the results will come out dry and cakey. You could mix them with a little moisturizer, serum, or other liquid and cream foundations and get a nice medium to full coverage with this brush. You may have to use a smaller brush to get in and blend around the corners of the nose and eyes as this brush is too big to get into those small spaces.
