Questions & Answers for Philosophy Take A Deep Breath™ SPF 30

Can I use this alone as a protective face sunscreen?
Will this product work by itself to provide sun protection? Or should I layer it with another sunscreen?

Unless you're participating in water sports or sweating a lot I would think this product would be sufficient sunscreen alone. I use it under my Tarte BB cream which also has spf and they blend seamlessly.

answer 2
It has SPF 30, so it would be adequate, however applying sunscreen as well can't hurt.

answer 3
Yes, I did on my vacation this summer in Mexico. Of course, its not waterproof, but I kept mine in my beach bag and reapplied when needed. :)

answer 4
For daily use - Yes! It's not waterproof though, so when I'm at the beach/pool/lake I use a more heavy duty waterproof sunscreen.

I think so, but the packaging does say that you would have to apply it every 2 hours for sun protection. If you don't want to worry about constant applying, I suggest getting a sun screen for the face that lasts a bit longer.

answer 6
You can use it alone. Sunscreen typically only lasts about an hour to an hour and a half so you need to reapply a sunscreen, although not the moisturizer. It would be too much. This is if you plan on being out in the sun all day.

answer 7
Yes you can, because it has a good amount of sunscreen already in it. I found it protected me pretty well from the sun but I don't think it would be the best sunscreen if you lived somewhere very sunny and you would be out in full sun all day.

I have olive skin but still get sunburn if I don't wear protection. But, I am able to use this as my sunblock alone even on very sunny and hot days and have been fine!

answer 9
I use this alone as a sunscreen unless I am going to be in the water or sweating a lot. It is not waterproof, but I think that it's fine for normal everyday use.

Is this the same exact thing as the one in the jar, just with spf?

Hi, Yes according to Philosophy rep this is the same as the other but with SPF. I use this in daytime and truly love it but the packaging really stinks. A lot of product comes out so you have to be careful with this, however the product is fantastic, packaging not so much.

answer 2
Yes, however I find it a bit thicker/more oily due to the SPF.

did this replace the hope in a jar (tube)?
I don't know why they don't sell the hope in a jar oil-free spf 30? Is this the replacement?

No. This does not replace Hope In A Jar SPF 30. Take a deep breath SPF is a great oil-free moisturizer that has a gel consistency . My son uses it and loves it!

Acne prone skin?
asked 7 months ago
on Take A Deep Breath™ SPF 30

answer 1
I wouldn't use this if you are prone to acne. I have pretty clear skin and do not break out that easily, and this made me break out horribly after only two days. The version of this that doesn't have the SPF in it is amazing though. So I don't know if the SPF is what caused the irritation, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I was shopping the Philosophy site, and this specific moisturizer with the SPF was nowhere to be found. I'm so glad to see it here at Sephora, but I'm concerned that it won't be around much longer. I do love the regular Take A Deep Breath, but I'd definitely prefer to keep using the version with sunscreen. Does anyone know about this?
