Question
Is it OK to use a moisturizer with this or can you use it alone?

Yes, you can definitely use this on its own, but I've recently discovered Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb, which has an incredibly lightweight, gel texture that absorbs very well, and it pairs very nicely with Clarins Huile Lotus. As someone with very oily skin that's acne-prone, these two products together has not caused any breakouts.

You can use this oil alone, because it is very moisturizing. I pair it with a moisturizer though. I use my oil first, then let it soak in a bit (about 5 minutes) and then I apply my moisturizer. I haven't had a problem with breakouts from applying my moisturizer over this oil.

I mix a drop or two with my Murad skin perfecting lotion and that has really helped clear my rosacea and acne.

I use this as my moisturizer but, I do live in the North and during this winter, I added a light moisturizer under it, so I put the oil on top as my last item on my face before my primer. It doesn't make me too greasy and looks/feels great!

I have combination skin, meaning that cheeks and upper forehead gets dry and flakey and my t-zone gets oily. In the summer I only use oil, after my toner. In the winter depending on how dry I am, I use my toner, the lotus oil and then i use my moisturizer on either my entire face or just where I feel I need it.

Question
I currently use a vitamin c infused serum and layer moisturizer on top. I've read that face oils are amazing and this came highly recommended
I have a few tiny breakouts and small bumps on my jaw line. I'm 27 and trying to ward off the aging process in a smart way. How and when do I use this oil? Can I use serum with it? I need to stay moisturized throughout the day without getting oily.

I used this over 15 years ago before the oil hype up until Clarins discontinued it, so I'm happy they've brought this back! If you have oily skin, this product will definitely help with that. I've given my mom the rest of my other oils now that I've got my hands on this Huile Lotus once again. You can definitely wear with your serums and moisturizers. After showering and my skin is still damp, I use a retinol every other night and layer Huile Lotus over it, then I add my moisturizer over Huile Lotus. On nights I skip my retinol (every other night), I apply Huile Lotus directly to skin, then moisturize. I also use Huile Lotus every morning first, then my sunscreen, then my makeup. You will love this! It has really improved my skin!

I'm 26, and I was very interesting in trying out beauty oils. I went into Sephora clueless about which one I wanted to buy. This oil was highly recommended by one of the employees that helped me. I hove found this oil has helped with the tone and texture of my skin because it provides so much moisture to the skin. When adding this to your skincare regime, use your serum first, then the oil(let it soak in a bit), then follow up with your moisturizer. This oil hasn't made me breakout, and I really like it.

I use my acne serum first and then I apply this, I even follow with a moisturizer at night only. However if you are not oily I wouldn't recommend putting this all over, if you have combo skin, only apply to areas of concern, such as excess oil, pores, and congestion.

It should only be used at night and you only need 2 drops for your entire face. Warm the oil in the palms of your hands and press it into the skin concentrating on the T-Zone area.

I had this question too when I bought this oil at Sephora. The employee said that you want to use the lighter products first. So, you would first use the oil, let it soak in a bit, and then follow up with your moisturizer. If you also use a serum, you would use the serum first, then the oil, then the moisturizer.

I started using this product in the fall and live in the North, once winter hit, I started putting a moisturizer on under the oil during the day. It works great and doesn't make me too greasy.

First put on your moisturizer or serum followed by the oil. This will allow the oil to seal in the moisture from the water based products. If you use the oil first the moisturizer won't penetrate.

Question
Does this work on acne prone skin
I have acne prone skin and I have been using the tart face oil . It has cleared my acne up but I read you should not use during the day. It said some oils are bad for uv. So I'm wondering if this oil will make me brake out and can I use it during the day?

Yes, it does. I suffered from severe acne as a teenager and into my early 20s. I used Clarins Huile Lotus all those years ago, going back to the 90s, and have never found another product that helped so much with my acne. After about a week, you'll notice less oil production, and over time you'll notice you won't have as many breakouts. It also helps this is a natural product. When Clarins discontinued this, I started using other oils, but none targeted lessening the effects of oily skin, and while I've liked many other oils, this one is undoubtedly the best for oily skin!

This oil has not made me breakout, and I have very sensitive-acne prone skin. I would not advise using this oil during the day time. Stick with just before bed.

Question
Does this oil actually help with blackheads?
I have seen on another site that this oil helped actually remove their blackheads and shrink pores. Did anyone else notice any improvement in their blackheads after using the lotus oil? Thank you!

I have a lot of trouble with black heads, and I have not really noticed a difference yet. I have been using this product for three months. I'm still on the hunt for something that will get rid my these annoying blackheads. It is a very good facial oil though.

I love this oil. I have noticed a decrease in blackheads (I get them on my chin). I have also noticed my skin is much softer. After cleansing I put a drop on my fingers and sort of press it into my skin. It will absorb and become matte. Just be sure not to use too much..The only drawback is that it sort of leaves you smelling a bit like a salad because of the herbal oils. Be assured it does fade.

Question
Compare this to Josie Maran Argan Oil?
Which one is better for Asian, dry/combination, & acne prone skin? I live in the north, and the weather is making my skin very flaky!
Also, which bottle lasts longer? I saw a question about how the Clarin's oil started to change color.

Thanks!

While Josie Argan oil can be used for face, body, and hair, this is just for your face, and if you have oily/combination skin, this product is to die for! I used this many years ago until it was discontinued, then I began using Josie's a few years ago, which I also love. The only problem with Josie Argan Oil is I find I can only use it during the winter when my face is not producing as much oil. Josie also has a thicker texture, whereas Huile Lotus is more liquid and lighter. If you have dry skin, Clarins has another oil that targets that called Santal Face Treatment Oil. I've never used Santal because my skin is severely oily, but if quality is the same and I'm sure it is, I'd suggest Santal if you're having dry, flaky skin issues. Huile Lotus is moisturizing, but it's targeted for oily skin, and it has greatly curbed oil production for me. I think using Huile Lotus might be too drying for you, so I suggest Santal. I like Josie's Argan Oil, but I think if you're looking for something lighter, Santal is the way to go.

The Argan Oil made me breakout so needless to say I prefer the Lotus Oil. I have been using 3 drops (in the palm of my hands that I rub together in order to warm the product up, then pat on my face and neck) every night for 8 months now and it's just a little over halfway done. The color hasn't changed because I keep it stored away from light. It is made of essential oils, which are photosensitive (I believe that's why Josie Maran packages her in a dark bottle). Lastly, the Argan oil is a little more liquidy in texture, therefore a little less comforting on the skin than the Lotus oil.

answer 3
The Clarins Lotus Face Treatment oil contains a blend of rosewood, geranium, and lotus extracts which help to purify skin, tighten pores, and refine the skin texture. The Clarins oil has a scent and the Josie Maran Argan Oil is completely fragrance free. Both of the oils will last you about the same amount of time, however, Josie Maran's Argan Oil can be used all over the body and face so if you intend to use it on your body and face, this bottle of oil may not last you as long as the Clarins oil because the Clarins oil is specifically formulated for use on the face only.

I had the same issue with a few bottles. They were well within their usage timeframe (i.e., not expired) and never had been stored in extreme temperatures or overexposed. The sales rep told me the color gets lighter as you use it because there is less oil in the bottle, making the yellow color less concentrated. I think also because it is a natural product and not packed with preservatives, it can tend to change color, but in a totally natural way. I have never had a problem! Just be sure you don't store it in your hot/humid bathroom, keep it out of direct sunlight, close it tightly, and throw it out if you've passed the 12-month mark. You should be fine!
