The silicone plate is 1 inch wide. The flat iron itself is about 10.5 inches long. I traveled with it last weekend and it was fine. Not too big at all. The temp ranges from 200 - 450, and you can adjust it anywhere in between that range.

answer 2
This can definitely curl!

It is approx 1 inch wide and has a rounded edge so the hair can curl around the tool, it also helps that the cord swivels so no twisting occurs.

I find that I always need hair spray to keep the curls in tact as the intense heat can sometimes make the curls drop.

I didn't read the instructions, but my iron acts the same way. The light starts out blinking (in that red/orange light) then becomes solid. I haven't had any issues with it heating up or staying hot and its performance has been just fine. I've owned it for 2 or 3 months now and use it almost daily.

I think your hair needs to be dry. I have an old T3 flat iron that specifically said it could be used on both dry and flat; this one doesn't say that.

Question
What are the "speed strips" ?
The product description says it has "450 degree silicone speed strips" and it's not clear from the image what those strips are and how they work?
Thanks

The speed strips are the silicone plates. I guess they choose the term "speed strips" to insinuate that it works quickly which it does. The temp goes from 210 - 450 so you can choose what temp you want within that range.
