Questions & Answers for Ciaté London Very Colourfoil Manicure™

Question
Need tips on applying top coat
I have this. I have no problem applying the foil. However, both times I've applied top coat,, the holographic/mirror finish has dulled and dissolved a bit. The effect is totally lost. Are there any tips on top coat application? I've tried it with no topcoat, but the foils just rinse off when I wash my hands. Thank you!

I've had the same problem that you're having. If you use a quick drying top coat I've heard that this causes the foil to lose its luster quite a bit. Maybe try with a non-quick drying top coat (as annoying as it is).

The gray Polish isn't the top coat it is the bottom coat you need to put on a clear coat for the top coat.

Not sure which top coat you are using, but I use Seche Vite and I don't have a problem with the foil looking dull. I also sometimes use Gelous which also adds a clear gel like coating and then I add the Seche Vite over it. Keeping everything shiny. Hope this helps. :)

try not to put too much pressure as you apply the top coat as the dragging over the foil is what smears the color.

Question
Does the foil show up on top of darker nail polish?
I want to use wonderland over a dark charcoal gray instead of the light gray it comes with, will the foils still show up and be colorful?

Yes they will! The foils are really opaque so you can use them over any colour of polish.

Question
What type of glue?
Is the glue that comes with the set a specific type of glue, or is it just regular nail glue, or a base coat, or something?

It's not like a base coat or nail glue (which is similar to super glue). It is a gummy/ translucent craft glue. I put foil on my nails all the time & don't even use glue. I use a cheap top coat over the base, wait till it's slightly tacky (almost dry) & then press it randomly all over my nails. Works fine for me.

I don't know what type of glue, however I have seen being sold separate on different websites. Just do a search for nailfoil techniques/products.

Question
what alternate glue can be used (super glue?)
After reading the reviews (for which I am very thankful), I see many complaints about the glue for the foil application. If it is not working (as many reviewers say), what could I keep available to take to my nail artist in case the glue in the kit does not work or is all gooped up?

The chemical configuration of the glue would benefit emergency mishaps to find a good substitute. I could take an alternative with me so my artist could quickly switch if the kit glue does not work. The foils are SOOO incredibly beautiful, I really want to try the kit, but want to go to the salon prepared for a glue failure. Thank you.

I had bad luck when i purchased mine. my glue was all hardened so what i did was added a drop of polish remover just to liquify it just a tad. It still made it a little difficult but I got it to work once i figured I needed to put on multiple coats of polish so that the remover in the glue didn't lift it all. I wouldn't suggest super glue just because I would see the entire paper itself sticking instead of just the "foil" part that you want to stick.

I'm sure your nail tech has several kinds of nail glue on hand. Or you could buy nail glue at Sally. I'd recommend strongly not to use crazy glue! You may not be able to get it off with acetone.
Other tips are to use a thin layer of glue, let it dry about 45 - 60 seconds, and experiment with pulling the foil off slow/fast or at different angles.
Good luck!
