Questions & Answers for Illamasqua Speckled Nail Varnish

Question
opacity?
Is the base color on these sheer or opaque? How many coats to achieve opacity? I'm particularly interested in "Mottle".

Scarce was opaque in two coats. The photo I've attached is two coats and a top coat of Seche Vete quick dry.

Two coats for opacity. The base colors are slightly more than semi-sheer.

The base coat goes on largely sheer--you still get some color, but you don't start to achieve a really nice finish until about coat three. Luckily it dries fairly quickly!

I have mottle. The first coat was really sheer, but after 2 coats it had a good opacity to it! (:

In my opinion, it has an amazing finish. 1-2 coats for an opaque finish!

I suggest putting one coat over another, light-colored polish. I did this by "accident" the first time. I was in a Sephora store, and my nails were already painted a metallic mauve color. I tried a light coat of the blue on my thumb nail and loved the effect so much that I did the same to all my nails. You can still see the mauve through the blue, and the result is a really pretty lavender color. I received tons of compliments. I was also impressed by how quickly it dried (though this could be because I applied just a thin layer and my nails underneath were painted the day before), and I didn't need a top coat. It is now the next day, and my nails still look great.

I bought it in Fragile and used two coats - it's a bit thin with one coat, certainly opaque with two. The more coats you use, the more layered the specking becomes.

Really only one coat, but two is great. The polish is naturally opaque.

With a base coat and two coats, it is fully opaque. I did have to touch up a few spots because my first coat wasn't very even, but with the base coat and two proper coats you get excellent opaque coverage. It's definitely NOT sheer.

It's not sheer. But because the colors are pastel, they do need two coats to fully cover.

Although I don't have Mottle, (I have Speckle)...the color is opaque with the recommended 2 coats. I love it...may go back for Freckle. Hope that helps you.

Many of the Sephora stores still have it in stock. I saw it in two of the Tampa area stores. Try contacting your local store. I hope this helps.
