Question
How to use Tarte Maracuja oil
Hello, I have read the reviews on the Tarte Maracuja oil and was wondering if this should be used in the morning and at night or just at night? Should it be used alone or with my day/night creams? The reviews sound wonderful but I want to make sure I am using it right. Thank you!!

You can use it day or night. Depending what your preference is. A lot of people don't know how to use oils properly. If you want hydration throughout the day, apply a small drop to your foundation and mix well. There are a lot of myths about oils. Foundation already has oil in it, which is why you need to shake it before use. Therefore, a drop in your foundation, WILL NOT cause your makeup to slide off. Also, oils SHOULD NOT be massaged onto the skin (like regular moisturizers), instead you should pat the oil onto your face. This ensures all the oil gets absorbed into your face and not half of it on your hands. There are many great benefits to using oils. And the great thing is they are multipurpose. You can use it on your cuticles, to repair damaged hair, and a drop on your wrists to make perfume last longer. (I work with oils and received training on them)

I find that using this during the day makes makeup slide off. However, I have started using it as my nighttime moisturizer instead of a night cream, and I LOVE it. I can also see using a drop or two with your daytime moisturizer to give an extra boost when you're having a super dry day...just apply less than usual (for nighttime, I apply 3 drops to my face and then 3 drops to my neck/chest).

I use it primarily at night because it can leave skin shiny, but every once in a while I put it on in the morning if my skin is feeling dry. I personally don't mind looking shiny for the half hour or so that it takes to absorb, but note that I don't use foundation or anything, so I'm not sure how the two work together.

Hi, this is great stuff, I use three drops in the morning and three before bed. During the day I apply under makeup and with my moisturizer, and at night I apply after washing my face. The oil absorbs fairly quickly, but it does have a slight oily/nutty smell to it, but it's not overpowering. Hope this helps...

You primarily want to use it at night - like three drops all over your face, neck and chest.

During the day you'd want to add 1 drop to your normal daily moisturizer.

I use this product during the day and at night. If used during the day, let it settle in your skin for a few minutes, since it is an oil it will look oily initially yet within a few minutes blends in with the skin. I use this product by itself without lotions or creams. I think adding a cream or lotion moisturizer might be to much moisturizing, that is just my oppinion though. I have used it under foundation on the colder winter days when my skin have been the driest and seems fine. If anything it is a good base coat under foundation, if ones skin is really dry.

Personally, I've use it both ways. I use it every night - which I believe it how it's supposed to be used. But, days where I feel like my skin needs some extra love, I put this on my face (I use a little less that I would at night) and do my make up routine as needed. BUT, if you are looking for extra help during the day, I would recommend using this at night and going with the Maracuja Oil Foundation for day. But if you don't want to go with both products, then this one works under your foundation too!

I have very oily (gross oily) skin, and I usually have a few blemishes. I got the rollerball because it was less expensive and I thought that would be a good way to try it out. I started using this a few weeks ago at night, and I wish I had bought the full size. At first, I broke out a little. But now, my face is less oily, which is amazing because I never thought that would happen, and my skin is so much clearer. So, yes, it is great on my oily, acne-prone skin. I would suggest trying the rollerball out. You can always use it around your eyes if it makes you break out. Hope this helps :)

In contrast to a competitive facial oil, this made my skin break out while the other (Boscia) did not. I strongly believe in facial oils, even for oily skin, but some oils are better for acne prone skin than others, and while I have high praises for this oil, I don't recommend it for those with acne prone skin.

I have had acne for years and have just recently got it under control. First, I stopped drying my skin out-it just made it oilier in the end and was hard to wear make up when my skin was flaking. I started moisturizing with oil free moisturizer from Clinique, Boscia makes a good one too and started using serums. I ended up loving this because it is light weight, gets absorbed quickly and instantly feels amazing. I never found that this product made me breakout and I was very nervous of that. This helped with lightening of scars and just smooth, beautiful skin. Don't be scared of using this product because of the word "oil"- its miracle oil and really helped my acne-ic skin

Oil draws out oil.. so for the first 2 weeks you will feel some sort of little breakout, but if you dont have allergic reaction to it than your fine. If you're looking for a good non greasy oil than this would be good. anything new you start on for your skin, it has to adjust so use your discression.

I don't notice any perfume to it. It smells like oil to me - think a light walnut oil. (Sorry I've used walnut oil for salad dressings and it's that association not heavy like olive oil) I found the smell was noticeable when first applying to my face but for the most part dissipated. I don't really notice a smell at all in my hair.

Personally, I use all face oils as a boost under my moisturizer, just because my skin has been THAT dry lately. I think an added moisturizer helps to lock it in (sort of like the oil would sink in and leave my skin dry without a thicker moisturizer). That is just my preference, my skin, etc.

Both! You can use this just as your moisturizer or wait until it dries a little and then put a moisturizer over it. The only issue I can see becoming a problem from that is if your skin becomes overly oily and you start to have breakouts.

I've read positive reviews from women with sensitive skin raving. I however, had a reaction to it and had to discontinue it. Picture red, angry, dry skin. My skin mostly reacts to aggressive anti aging products and sunscreens, even sensitive skin ones burn a little but dissipates and I can use them.

You noted you use Ole Henriksen ... I tried a sample of their truth creme and I had to immediately remove it. So if there is a sensitivity spectrum and you do ok with that maybe my skin is more reactive and this may work just fine for you.

I'd recommend asking them for a sample vial to try a couple days.

I am guessing but if I keep using it the same way (and amount) this bottle will last me a minimum of 6 months! And I use it on my neck too! It seems expensive to begin with, but if you consider how long it will last then it really is a great deal!! So my advice is to buy it bad enjoy it!!

I worked in China and used this product. Use it at night because the day time IT'S WAY TO POLLUTED so avoid using it around the mouth area... humid + oil around mouth area can be... well... not nice. If you are in China or any humid weather in Asia, i think layering it with serum or gel moisturizer will work. I dont recommend using it with a thick cream in China.

I have acne prone skin so I'm careful about not over-moisturizing, but this is definitely thick/strong enough to use as a moisturizer without applying another cream over it. If I don't use a heavy-duty night cream my face gets extremely dry, and I haven't had an issue using this product on its own (over a serum). So unless your face is so dry that nothing seems to help, you should be fine just using this.

Maracuja oil may actually enhance UV damage to skin. Maracuja oil has large amounts of lycopene, which is a good antioxidant BUT has shown enhanced UV damage in some mice studies. I'm guessing that's why Tarte only recommends it at night. The other antioxidants in maracuja oil could be protective against UV damage. However, I'd play it safe and just use it in the evening.
