Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

What it is: A 100 percent pure organic maracuja oil. What it does: This undiluted organic and moisturizing maracuja oil quickly absorbs for firmer, brighter, smoother skin. Pure maracuja oil is rich in vitamin C, so skin appears instantly brighter and more radiant, as well as essential fatty acids (EFAs), a requirement for healthy skin cells that the body cannot produce on its own. EFA deficiency can result in the breakdown of essential skin cells which causes skin to appear dry and aged. By supplementing skin with pure maracuja oil, you are infusing life back into dull skin and replenishing EFAs to rapidly rebuild and repair. This potent antiaging elixir that has anti-inflammatory benefits promotes active skin recovery and delivers maximum hydration without any greasy or filmy feel. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates- Synthetic Fragrances- Petrochemicals- Phthalates- GMOs- TriclosanResearch results: In a 6 week consumer use study:-96% of women saw an overall visible improvement in skin-91% of women saw a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles-94% of women saw a visible improvement in skin texture-94% of women thought skin appeared renewed and rejuvenated.

I don't notice any perfume to it. It smells like oil to me - think a light walnut oil. (Sorry I've used walnut oil for salad dressings and it's that association not heavy like olive oil) I found the smell was noticeable when first applying to my face but for the most part dissipated. I don't really notice a smell at all in my hair.

It smells like olive oil. It lasts for a long time, I mean the product, not the smell. All you need are 3 drops, no kidding, it spreads generously. You should ask for a sample. It is awesome!

Has a slight smell - not perfumy or lingering, but the smell can be covered up if you wear moisturizer or another oil such as rose oil or a hint of sandalwood oil.

Personally I'd say that the scent is very weak and goes away very soon, but at first it smells like oil. If you could classify oil as being a plain oil then that's what it would smell like. I hope this is helpful.

Is this product ok or at all helpful with redness/ sensitive skin?
My skin tends to get red in weird or uncomfortable situations, hot days, etc.

I've read positive reviews from women with sensitive skin raving. I however, had a reaction to it and had to discontinue it. Picture red, angry, dry skin. My skin mostly reacts to aggressive anti aging products and sunscreens, even sensitive skin ones burn a little but dissipates and I can use them.

You noted you use Ole Henriksen ... I tried a sample of their truth creme and I had to immediately remove it. So if there is a sensitivity spectrum and you do ok with that maybe my skin is more reactive and this may work just fine for you.

I'd recommend asking them for a sample vial to try a couple days.

Maracuja oil may actually enhance UV damage to skin. Maracuja oil has large amounts of lycopene, which is a good antioxidant BUT has shown enhanced UV damage in some mice studies. I'm guessing that's why Tarte only recommends it at night. The other antioxidants in maracuja oil could be protective against UV damage. However, I'd play it safe and just use it in the evening.

Cheers!

Recommended usage is use only a few drops, which absorbs easily into the skin. This should be used at night, but if you have drier skin, I think this could be used during the day. I have dry skin, and I applied this under my regular light moisturizer for extra protection.

Hi, this is great stuff, I use three drops in the morning and three before bed. During the day I apply under makeup and with my moisturizer, and at night I apply after washing my face. The oil absorbs fairly quickly, but it does have a slight oily/nutty smell to it, but it's not overpowering. Hope this helps...

You primarily want to use it at night - like three drops all over your face, neck and chest.

During the day you'd want to add 1 drop to your normal daily moisturizer.

I use this product during the day and at night. If used during the day, let it settle in your skin for a few minutes, since it is an oil it will look oily initially yet within a few minutes blends in with the skin. I use this product by itself without lotions or creams. I think adding a cream or lotion moisturizer might be to much moisturizing, that is just my oppinion though. I have used it under foundation on the colder winter days when my skin have been the driest and seems fine. If anything it is a good base coat under foundation, if ones skin is really dry.

Personally, I've use it both ways. I use it every night - which I believe it how it's supposed to be used. But, days where I feel like my skin needs some extra love, I put this on my face (I use a little less that I would at night) and do my make up routine as needed. BUT, if you are looking for extra help during the day, I would recommend using this at night and going with the Maracuja Oil Foundation for day. But if you don't want to go with both products, then this one works under your foundation too!

Question
How to use ?
I have heard some individuals say they use this before they apply makeup by letting it sit in for a little and then apply. The description and many others say that they use it at night. Can both be done? or is this suppose to be at night only? also when you apply this at night are you suppose to wash your face in the morning more than you normally would or leave the oils in if not already absorbed?

What I do, is use my clarisonic at night, then slather this on ( not a ton, but definitely more than what is dispensed on the first pump ). I use my claricsonic again in the morning and do the same thing with the oil. I hope this helps. It absorbs fairly quickly. :-)

You can use it either way. I use it in the morning under my makeup. I don't need to let it sit for too long at all. I rinse and dry my face and than put a few drops in my hand. Rub my palms together to evenly distribute and than put it on my face and neck. It sits only as long as it takes me to apply my brow pencil. After that I start adding my foundation, etc.
A Sephora rep told me that a Tarte rep told him that you can use it morning and evening. (And occasionally I do.) It just depends on how much moisturizing you want. Morning and/or evening you don't need to wash your face more than you normally would. Maracuja oil is VERY light and it's easily absorbed. There's nothing left on your skin that needs a strong arm to remove.

yes yes YES this helps with acne! I'm not sure if it will get rid of pimples, but it certainly heals those that have popped and are dry and flaky and it make the active pimples I have look much better over night. It also helps control oil very well! Just remember to use it sparingly and it will help tremendously.

I have been using 3 drops a night for a few weeks and you still can't tell the bottle was even opened! Looking at the level of product from the side (through the glass) it is just the tiniest bit below the neck of the bottle.
I am guessing but if I keep using it the same way (and amount) this bottle will last me a minimum of 6 months! And I use it on my neck too! It seems expensive to begin with, but if you consider how long it will last then it really is a great deal!! So my advice is to buy it bad enjoy it!!

I have acne prone skin so I'm careful about not over-moisturizing, but this is definitely thick/strong enough to use as a moisturizer without applying another cream over it. If I don't use a heavy-duty night cream my face gets extremely dry, and I haven't had an issue using this product on its own (over a serum). So unless your face is so dry that nothing seems to help, you should be fine just using this.

I have had acne for years and have just recently got it under control. First, I stopped drying my skin out-it just made it oilier in the end and was hard to wear make up when my skin was flaking. I started moisturizing with oil free moisturizer from Clinique, Boscia makes a good one too and started using serums. I ended up loving this because it is light weight, gets absorbed quickly and instantly feels amazing. I never found that this product made me breakout and I was very nervous of that. This helped with lightening of scars and just smooth, beautiful skin. Don't be scared of using this product because of the word "oil"- its miracle oil and really helped my acne-ic skin
