Primer mandatory?

Is it MANDATORY to buy the clear lip tar to prime these colors? I don't really want to spend $50 on the set PLUS $18 for the separate clear tar. I have Urban Decay's lip primer potion already, will this work?

It's not mandatory to buy the clear lip tar. Any lip primer will help prolong the wear of the product. Just make sure you moisturize a lot before using the lip tar because it's very drying.

I have the set but don't have the Clear Tar, and I use just lip balm and it works ok. I don't know if the Clear Tar would make it more long-wearing, but it isn't an absolute must in my opinion.

I don't know if this answer helps, but when I was in Las Vegas last month I stopped at Sephora and was plseantly surprised that they had the whole line oflip tars at the store including the pro's picks. I say this to say maybe there are selective stores that carry the whole line. I would try contacting them to see which ones carries it.

I'm quite disappointed as well. :( I sent a message to the Sephora FB team if they'll be restocking and they said they won't be because it was a limited edition item. I read from an article that they'll be releasing another set which includes Hush, Anime, NSFW, Memento, and Strumpet. Here's the link :

Are these lip tars sticky at all?

Lip glosses tend to have a sticky texture whereas lipsticks are not. What is the texture on the lips more akin to...a lip gloss or lipstick?

They are thick but only slightly sticky, and you can control that with how much you use. Smaller amounts are more like a stain and you can't feel it. Larger amounts are thick like lipstick.

No, these are not sticky at all. It dries down to a semi matte texture and is not a lip gloss at all.

OCC lip tars last for a very long time. You only need a tiny, tiny amount to cover your entire lips. They'll expire before you even use the whole tube.

They are full size! They also come with one full size brush. The individual ones sold on Sephora each come with a mini brush. Hope that helps!

Is the primer (not included in set) required?

I think my set or at least the color I have tried may be deffective. I tried melange multiple times, it never soaks in or dries. I even left my mouth parted for 10 mins. I used a very thin barely visible layer. Didn't dry, checked an hour later & it was gone. I tried more so it was like paint. Never dried even sitting with mouth open. I put on clean dry lips. The directions say use the primer but it doesn't come with one. Isn't it just the same material so you could prime with the color then put more on top (which I have done and doesn't work)?

I haven't had that problem, and I don't use the primer. Maybe your product is defective, or maybe you're still using too much? it really is only the tiniest amount that's necessary, like once it's all over your lips if you rub them together you shouldn't feel anything except your skin. No oiliness, no stickiness, no product except MAYBE a little wet. If that's what you've been doing, then i dunno. But OCC has an FAQ page on their site, maybe it'll help? Good luck, sorry it didn't work out for you.

While the primer is not necessary, it is a great addition to prolong wear. We suggest applying the lip tars to clean, dry lips, in order for it to dry and adhere.

OCC recomends appying their Clear Lip Tar as a prep. They shouldn't bleed if you don't use too much but to be sure you can use a clear/colored lipliner if you don't have the Clear Lip Tar.

As a MUA and an everyday woman, I feel that these lip tars are a little more tricky to apply than regular lipstick, but the color payoff is worth it. If you are not daring with what colors of lipsticks you like, don't buy these. People stare! I wear Anime (a fuschia color) often, and with my light skin tone it stands out like a pink highlighter. I like this effect. The trick I have noticed using the Lip Tars is that you need the primer or another lip balm and let it sit on your lips for five minutes before you add the lip tar. Also, using a concealer brush and outlining outside your lip line will help the color stay in place. A little goes a long way with this product, and making sure your lip lines are perfect is a must.

It is indeed virtually no fuss! I have worn it to several parties/evening events and gone the entire night drinking, snacking, talking... and I still have color when I get home. I recommend a clear lip liner to prevent feathering, and a close-matching liner under the tar for added insurance.
