Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation SPF 15

What it is: A natural-looking, long-wearing foundation. What it does: Comfortable and hydrating, this medium- to full-coverage, oil-free formula never looks cakey or “masky.” Glycerin and shea butter keep skin feeling moisturized while a gel base creates a lightweight finish that stays color-true. This formula lasts for up to 12 hours even in the most humid conditions and protects skin from future damage thanks to broad spectrum SPF 15 with antioxidant vitamins C and E.

It's a satin finish in my opinion. I'd imagine it'd look more matte on dry skin but on my oily skin it was more natural satin once it had settled. It's not a flat matte either it's very natural looking.

It is only very slightly dewy. It is not fully matte, but matte enough that a combination/oily skin girl like me doesn't ever look like a greaseball :)

This product goes on matte on my skin-- flat but not powdery. I have combination oily skin, so anywhere I don't set with powder has a dewy effect by the end of the day, but that color is still holding strong come 6pm.

Question
Responses to Beautypedia's Negative Review?
I am trying this foundation and really like the color match. I unfortunately went on to Paula Begouin's website which gave this foundation a "POOR" rating because it contains lavender oil. Can anyone who has been using this foundation for a long time substantiate or refute their seriously damaging review? Or can a real skin care expert weigh in? I feel like they are basing their rating off "studies" that say lavender oil is irritating to skin, but don't actually research how the product itself works.

I wanted to throw in this link, because I was really worried and curious about this ingredient, and confused about all the conflicting information. I haven't looked into any of the citations, but it seems legit:

I think the negative review is bogus. Lavender oil is no problem for the skin. I have sensitive combination acne prone skin. Lavender oil is antibacterial. I used to wear the Bobbi Brown's natural finish foundation, but switched to this one when it discontinued & this one has NEVER broken me out & control my oil without drying out my cheeks. I totally recommend it.

I cannot attest to the lavender oil, but I can say this stuff destroyed my skin. I used this for 5 days, and I am completely broken out and pores are severely clogged. I used to have pretty good skin, very few breakouts. I am also not sensitive, and this stuff made me itch itch itch.

Question
Can anyone compare to Smashbox's STUDIO SKIN
I really like Smashbox's STUDIO SKIN in terms of its colours, coverage and staying power but find that it can accentuate fine lines and wrinkles/dry skin. Has anyone tried both Smashbox and Long-Wear? If so, which would be your preference? Thanks!!!

I prefer the long-wear even finish as well, it lasted all day and looked more natural. Downside is their shade range oxidizes a bit and the smell is overpowering lavender and mind you I love the smell of lavender otherwise! I had porcelain which is supposed to be a neutral to yellow pale shade but it turned kind of pink on me. Smashbox Studio Skin majorly oxidized on me and didn't last very well/look natural in my opinion (probably because of the color change though).

For the past week, I've been using both smashbox studio skin 15hr and bobbi brown long-wear even finish. I put half on one side of my face, the other on the other side of my face, and then I switched sides the next day. I've come to the conclusion that both appear and perform pretty much the same. Smashbox studio skin is my regular fndn and I like it a lot. I was hoping the Bobbi Brown would be a better shade match for my skin, but it isn't really, and it doesn't seem to perform any better. I think they're both really good but I'm looking for something even better (lighter feel with medium-full coverage) and better shade match for my skin than either one.

I'm not sure if this will answer your question but I have young, dry skin and I really liked this foundation! I used it for cheerleading competitions and it stayed on ALL DAY! Because I have dry skin, it was very matte so I didn't have to use much powder at all. I might suggest a slightly more moisturizing foundation like the "Moisture Rich" foundation from Bobby Brown but this definitely worked well for me! It blended really nicely into the skin and has very nice buildable coverage.

Question
BB Stick vs BB Long-Wear Finish?
I am looking for a medium to full coverage foundation that looks natural and lasts all day (8-10 hours). I have sensitive skin, as well as some pigmentation from old acne. I am torn between the BB Stick and the Long Wearing foundation (both in Natural).

Stick has better coverage, color selection, and looks natural BUT can look pretty cakey if not used right/used on dry patchy skin types. Long-wear looks natural and lasts very well BUT is a bit off colored and can oxidize as well as having an overpowering scent. Gave me breakouts but I still preferred the Long-wear over the stick.

This is going to sound silly but try and get a few samples at Sephora or Macy's and check out how the color looks in the mirror in a car. I don't know why but anytime I use a car mirror I can TOTALLY see if a foundation oxidizes or just plain doesn't match my skin tone. I'm very pale so it's a bit more noticeable for me but eh maybe give it a try?

YES!!! 2 MUAs on 2 diff occasions recommended i use her Hydrating Face Tonic (yes, a toner of sorts) as the only thing under this. Works like a charm!!! Although for oily skin this has moisturizing properties and to add a lotion under this would be grease overkill :)

I use a lightweight gel moisturizer for daytime, and it never greases up with this formula. Try a lighter weight moisturizer and see if you notice a difference. Save the heavier stuff for nighttime. = )

Question
Alabaster-yellow toned?
I'm currently using this foundation in Warm Ivory and it's just a touch too dark. I'm wondering is Alabaster yellow or pink based? What about Porcelain? I can't tell from the site.

Porcelain is more of a neutral-yellow tone in my opinion (I'm also very yellow pale) it's a tad darker in the Long-wear range compared to the others. Alabaster is more neutral-pink/white. Your best bet is Porcelain in terms of yellow, but even that turned a bit pink on me... The Skin range has better color.
