Questions & Answers for SK-II Facial Treatment Mask

Question
Frequency of use sk masks
How often do you use this mask? They cime with no instructions at all. The description says Japanese brides use them daily for 90 days before their wedding. There is no way I can afford that! I left it on for 30 min and found it relaxing but not sure when to use again.

Generally, sheet masks can be worn a few times a week but with these bad boys, I'd be broke. I just use them when my skin feels extra worn out/ if i have a special day.

You can check their website for instructions on how to use, but in this particular case it's recommended that you apply the mask 1-2 a week.

I've been using it once a week for two months and that seems to be working well as we are out of the WI winter. In summer, I may use it twice a month and come next winter perhaps twice a week. I am basing it on how "hungry" my skin seems to be for moisture based on how fast my Sisley Flower Gel Mask soaks in (twice weekly). Hope this helps!

Hi Seanma315,

You can use this mask as frequently as you would like, but for optimal results, we recommend using it two to three times a week.

Just unfold from the bag and apply gently onto the face. I use the extra liquid for my neck and decolletage. Even though the instructions say 15-30 minutes for effectiveness, I sometimes even sleep with it on after a peel. Makes my skin supple, plump and well rested looking in the morning.

I looked at the "How to Use" instructions on this website to figure it out. Just unfold it, put it on your face, and leave it there for 15-30 minutes or more. Don't wipe off the extra liquid after you take the mask off--just leave it on or rub it in.

You open the packet take the mask and unfold it slowly and carefully. The side with all the product on it you put on your face. It is a mask. It has eye cut outs and mouth cut outs. I leave it on for 30 minutes take the mask off my face and rub in the remaining product into my face

Yes, it's a discrete scent and I wouldn't call it exactly a fragrance, but the typical smell caused by the present of Pitera in its formulation. I find it very discrete, so it doesn't bother me (but don't expect to smell eau de parfum when wearing it). The smell goes away after the product is absorbed by the skin.

Question
is the mask ok for oily/combination skin?
I see such rave reviews for this mask, but so many people mention hydration which I don't necessarily need. I am very oily in my t-zone with some congestion on my forehead. I'm 29, live in humid Houston and have small pores, light-olive skin with light sunspots.

I common mistake is believing that having oily skin doesn't require the application of moisturizers. Every skin type can and should be moisturized on daily basis, improving its natural career against extern agents and helping to slow down the aging process (that is actually the water loss by the skin). If you use a correct moisturizer you can even get a proactive effect against oiliness. A mattifying product could do wonderful things for you (try La Roche Posay effaclar mat, for example - or infinite other options). I also have oily skin, and I could say this mask doesn't make it worse for us. In fact, it moisturizes the skin and even helps in the healing process of acne. Also, as it keeps your skin well moisturized, it prevents the skin to over producing sebum, keeping oil under control.

1-2 week. And yes, you can put it in the fridge to cool before using it. Just pay attention not to freeze the product (freezing and melting could alter the ingredients).

This product is much too expensive for daily use - I would suggest using it whenever you feel your skin needs an extra hydrating / brightening kick. I used it after a late night out (having had drinks and little sleep). I'd suggest using on a contingency basis - when needed or before a special occasion for which you want to look bright and fresh!

The company recommends its use for 1-2 times a week. You can keep it out of the fridge (as long as you don't live in a extremely warm place), but it's recommended to keep it away from excessive light (just keep it in its box or inside a cabinet). If you decide to keep it in the fridge, take care not to let it freeze, as this could result in the loss of some of the properties.

I found it best to store the masks in the refrigerator because it feels great when you put it on. It gives it an extra kick! As far as usage goes, you can use them a few times a week, or once a month. They are a bit pricey, so i have to take that in to account, but if you've got money to spend, use them as much as you would like to!

Well, there isn't any mandatory time of application for this product, but, I would personally use it at nighttime, after cleaning and toning my skin. At this time of the day, the skin renovates and recovers itself at a faster rate (as the whole body does), being able to optimize the results you would have with this mask. After removing the mask, don't rinse it off, just massage the skin until the excess of product is absorbed and finished your skincare routine with your normal products.

I use it night before I go to bed & I don't wash it off, allows for any of the left over residue to stay on the skin.

As a make up artist I would say no. If you wear no make up it's one thing but you can't really put make up on top without washing off the product which defeats the whole object. After removing the mask, the product stays on the skin that's why it's best used at night then rinse your skin in the morning.

Question
Flakes on skin
I exfoliated with a Kate Sommervile product after cleansing skin then I used this mask. Left on for 30 min then removed and left liquid on my skin to continue soaking in. Soon after skin felt tight and I notices flaking ( probably product residue and not my skin) . Any ideas? I brushed flakes off as I did not want to wash product odd. Applied Kate Sommervile moisturizer and went to bed. See no difference after one use but will continue to give it a chance.

I also have seen these "flakes" I believe it is just the product residue. Try using the mask 2-3 times in a week or more. My skin is usually spotted in some way from acne but this mask has cleared it up by using the mask 4-5 times a week.

My skin breaks out in acne at the mere thought of anything that is moisturizing. I was pleasantly surprised when I used this mask, because it hydrated the dry areas but didn't break me out or leave my skin greasy. I did not rinse off the residue; I think if you did that you would lose the hydrating benefits.

I think so. At least for acne due to stress.
About five years ago, I broke out horribly a week before my wedding.
I never had much of acne problems before, so it must have been the stress.
I used this mask every other day through a week, and....
I have a perfect bride's skin by the time. :)

Oh, No! Definitely not.
When you put on a mask, your skin starts to absorb faster than the mask absorbs moisture from your face, because it is thirsty.
After the skin replenish itself with enough moisture, the process would slowdown. When you leave it overnight, eventually the skin will be stuffed and the dried mask will take away moisture away from your skin.
A big no-no.

im not sure you would want to use the mask over night. I usually wear mine for about 30 minutes and then at night will use the residual to spread on my face and sleep in. I don't sleep with the cotton mask. There is plenty of left over product in the pouch for another two uses.
