What it is: A hair and scalp treatment that helps promote healthy hair growth. What it does: This light-textured exfoliating cream is infused with a natural AHA complex of sugar cane, lemon and apple extracts for gentle enzymatic exfoliation of scalp as well as mild, naturally derived bamboo for manual exfoliation. This dual-action formula helps clear scalp and follicles of build-up, soothing, and improving the condition of the scalp and aiding in the delivery of nutrients to hair roots. A complex of bay leaf oil and rich, natural actives helps keep the scalp clean and inspires healthier hair growth. Enriched with a botanical complex of fennel seed extract, this formula increases micro-circulation and oxygen flow to the root for deeper penetration of the nurturing bay leaf oil. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates- Synthetic Fragrances- Synthetic Dyes- Petrochemicals- Phthalates- GMOs- TriclosanWhat else you need to know: This product is ideal for those concerned with oily or dry scalp and excessive product build-up. Over the years, the experts at Ouidad have learned that build-up on scalp due to overactive sebum, excessive product usage, and dryness can lead to blocked follicles, hair dullness, and diminished hair growth. Left untreated, the scalp feels uncomfortable and healthy hair growth is hindered.

Questions & Answers for Ouidad Mediterranean Bay Leaf Exfoliating Hair & Scalp Treatment

Question
does it increase hair fallout?
I tried this once and had more hair fallout than usual. It scared me and I haven't used it since. Did anyone else experience this? Is this a short term thing where it gets rid of the hair that was close to falling out anyway and will help the new hair grow out stronger? Or is this just too harsh for my scalp?

For me, it didn't increase the fallout of dead cells but it actually decreased. You might want to try it again, and massage it properly, and if it still does that then you might want to try using oil products.

the hair fall out you notice isnt because of the actual product, but because you are massaging it into your scalp and the aggitation can cause some weaker hairs to fall a little sooner. dont worry its not actually making your hair fall out ;)

This does not increase any hair fall out for me. In fact, I think it has lessened. I have been using for 2 months, 1-3 times a week.

I have color in my hair and got positive results. It didn't do what it sad it was going to do (remove product build-up from my scalp) but it did make my hair look/feel unusually healthy.

Yes. I worried about that as well, but I have a 3 color process in my hair (base color and 2 highlight colors) and it didn't fade it a bit. In fact, it made the color sparkle! Seemed to remove all the shampoo build-up and made the color look better than it has in awhile!

Question
Does this product help people suffering from seborrheic dermatitis?
I have seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. This condition is incurable, therefore I'm looking for products that can help keep flare ups at bay and under control. If any of you girls using this product also have sebborheic dermatitis, let me know how it's working out for you!

I have the same problelm that you have, and it IS CURABLE !! Go see a dermatologist and let her/him know what over the counter products you have been using. I finally went to a dermatologist and she gave me an RX for a foam medication, and it is finally going away. I can now use regular shampoo and conditioner.(I went back to using WEN) The change of weather will bring on the itchy scalp and the flaking, but with the proper medication from the dermatologist is is under control. I encourage you to see your dermatologist.

I have seborrheic dematitis also. The flare ups are horrible, I tried this hoping I wouldn't have to get medicated shampoo again. It didn't help even a tiny bit. Was pretty bummed. Back to the dermatologist...... I've found that tea tree oil has helped my flare ups.

me too! I have been using medicated selsun blue for years and have taken extreme measure to hide it in my shower haha. I am forever embarrassed of my scalp even though it's not my fault. I have been looking for ages for something that really truly helped. This product is great! I use it a couple of times a week and it works wonders. When it gets really bad, I used the selsun blue. I have also used Paul Mitchell Tea Tree special shampoo which works really well.

I would not rely on this product alone for seborrheic dermatitis. I find it only provides a very mild amount of exfoliation, not enough for serious scalp and hair build-up. It might go well with a shampoo designed to treat the condition, but not as a stand-alone treatment.

This helps a bit. It's like a very gently scrab for your scalp. But you can achieve similar or better results with iodized salt. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of salt in 1 table spoon of hot water and massage your scalp with it for 10 min, then shampoo as usual.

I belive this product will help with scalp acne because it is removing the dead skin cells and sebum build up from your scalp just like an exfoliating cleanser will do for your face. I say try it, and if it doesnt work you can always send it on back ;)

I think it would help, but this is just a natural way of doing it...I first bought it because I had an itchy scalp and it helped me, but nothing major, my itchiness didn't go away completely, it's just soothing...

I color my hair a light red, and it does not fade the color. Actually it makes it 'pop' a little more because it really takes the build up that hard water, and product off. It makes your hair look shinier and more full of light.

It is not a very strong treatment. Unless your condition is very mild, this product won't work as a stand-alone treatment.

While I'm not sure about some of the other dermatological processes you mentioned, I noticed that it has helped with my flakies that I have (dandruff), so if you have a chance to try it, I don't think it would cause added irritation. Just use it gently (as there are little scrubbies in it) and try to carefully monitor your results. I hope this helps!

I don't know about keratin treated hair, but my hair is coloured and I use it. Though I would probably wait a week or so after a colour just to give your scalp a break before using it.

I have keratin treated hair & highlights, and I know to avoid anything with sodium or sulfates. This doesn't have those ingredients, so maybe it would be o.k. but it's probably best to contact the company to find out.

Question
Helpful for oily hair?
Is this product helpful in reducing oil production? Between my thin hair and oily scalp, I've always had to be a "shampoo every day" girl (dry shampoos cling and clump awfully) but it would be amazing to gain a little freedom from the sebum cycle.

I would highly recommend this product for you. I bought this product for the same reason, oily scalp, fine hair. My 10 year old daughter also suffers so and I felt like her super fine, greasy hair always looked dirty. We both have been using it, I started with the recommended 3 times per week but cut back to once a week due to the price and find it still effective. It makes our hair feel cleaner longer and adds bounce and body. I say definitely give it a try!

Yes! I have fine, Botticelli type curls and this did wonders for my scalp! It cleaned it thoroughly without drying! I used a moderate shampoo prior, rinsed, then applied this to towl-dried hair, massaged and left for 5 minutes, rinsed, and applied a rich conditioner. Very soothing and gentle!
