I feel like it wouldn't be a huge deal to wear it every night. But I would recommend using it as a spot treatment rather then covering your whole face if you were to wear it every night. I would say no more then 2-3 nights a week on your whole face, your skin needs air! But if you have the odd breakout, I think its perfectly okay to put a dab of this cream on the spot until it goes away. xx

I think you should only use it every day when your skin is particularly troublesome, otherwise, you should use it once or twice a week depending on how bad your breakout is.

I do. If I have a pimple, I'll put a visible dab of the sulfur mask on it and for my acne-prone areas, I put on a thin layer (it sinks in so I can't see it) each night and then sleep with it. In the morning I don't wash my face with water, but I use a cleansing wipe (Ponds with the little exfoliating beads) and that works for me.

Question
Amount to use overnight
Hi, I just bought this and am very excited to use it. However, I'm just wondering how much to apply overnight. It's not as thick as many masks, so I'm wondering if I should apply the same amount as I would a cream (and rub it in?), or have a thicker layer as I would a regular mask (which seems a little odd to sleep in, but I'm not sure). Thank you!

Personally, I only use a thin layer when sleeping in it overnight. It is recommended to put a few thin layers on your skin. However if you feel more comfortable just having a thin layer over your skin while sleeping, I think it will work just fine. xx

answer 2
That's a great question, and maybe you could experiment with what works for you. I use a thin layer where I think my pimples might pop up (jaw line and parts of my forehead) and a thicker glob on an active pimple. The thing is, if you apply a lot you'll burn through product and likely waste some on your sheets if you're sleeping in it (like I do), but if you're using it during the day, you could probably heap a little more on your problem area. If it works by drawing our impurities it needs to have direct contact with an area, so if you have a thick swath, I don't know if that is even beneficial, for any product for that matter.

Compared to Peter Thomas sulfur mask?

I bought both to compare and I like this one much better. Even thought the sulfur content is lower than in the Peter Thomas Roth alternative, this one is much more effective for me. It also does NOT leave my skin feeling dry - PTH does.

Roth warns you not to leave theirs on longer than 10 minutes, whereas Gross can be left on for hours or overnight. Sounds as if even though PTR is more highly rated, Gross may be more gentle, i.e. more appropriate for sensitive skin. Something you can leave on for hours is definitely going to do more to clear redness and blemishes than something you wash off after 10 min. so I would lean toward this one ;)

I too suffer from blackheads, whiteheads and large pores as well as pretty routine breakouts and this product has dramatically diminished the blackheads and whiteheads. My pores look much smaller and I have not had a single breakout since I began using this. It has been the only product I've ever used that has worked this well on everything. I put two thin layers on every night and left it on over night for the past 2 weeks approximately and my skin is also very hydrated. I've only used moisturizer a few times in the morning after washing it off. I noticed results immediately. I began using the Dr Dennis Gross 14 day trial of the extra strength 2 step wipes every morning 5 days ago and they too have been working great with this. I may have to slow down how often I leave it overnight because I read that some find it too drying out for their skin but I have combination skin that is usually pretty dry this time of year and so far it's been amazingly hydrating. I have never been able to skip using moisturizer for a day until now. Hope this helps answer your question.

Sulphur, as an element, and the sulpha moeity contained in some medications are 2 different entities. One has nothing to do with the other, there should be no cross allergy between the 2.

answer 2
I'm allergic to sulfa medication and have no problems using sulfur products for acne (and they are very effective). Sulfa and sulfur are completely different ingredients. Of course you should always check with a doc if really concerned.

Question
Is the Retinol in this product effective?
I have used both sulfur and Retin-A Micro, and they both are miracles for my hormonal acne breakouts and cystic acne. Is this retinol in the product good enough to increase my skin cell turnover?

i don't think it's enough retinol for that purpose. use this as a spot treatment and a vitamin a, retinol, or rosehip oil on the other parts of your skin.

I would try waiting an hour or so to let the serum get absorbed. Or, try using it only at night or alternate it with the serum if you're concerned it will interfere.

Compatibility w/exfoliation products
I use an exfoliating treatment at night. Could I use both or would that be too much? If I used both, how long after I apply the exfoliating treatment could I apply this mask? (I alternate btw Bliss Peeling Groovy & the Incredi-peel)

I exfoliate with my clarisonic daily and use this masque about every other day and they definitely work well together. Not too harsh at all.
answered 8 months ago

answer 2
I've used it in conjunction with Philosophy retinol products and I don't think there is a problem with layering. Evening routine: shower and use clarisonic w/ enzymatic cleanser, tea tree toner, retinol pad (but I admit, I don't use every night), acne treatment with B vitamins, eye cream, moisturizer (retinol or not), sulfur mask where I need it only. I would think you might want it to be your last step? It is a little drying, so if I put it on last I can control where it goes.
