I've used Proactive too and it irritated my skin so bad that my face swelled up. I've been on the Murad for 3 Days (9/18/12) and so far no real irritation or redness. The 30 day set has great directions with it and if two times a day for the use of the product is too much just use it until your skin gets use to it and increase to two days.

I love this product and I hope you get the same results as I am getting. Good luck! :)

I don't think it will irritate your skin, as long as you follow the instructions, and use sunscreen. That being said, give it a shot, or ask for a sample. If you purchase it, you can always return it, if it doesn't work for you.

I also used Proactiv and my skin got very dry around my eyes. It didn't help my acne either. I don't use the Murad products around my eyes as I have a makeup remover I love, also the Murad products have a cooling effect that is strong on the eyes. But, Murad products have not yet dried out my skin, they have balanced it nicely. LOVE them and have purchased all of the full-size products after using the 30-day samples for 3 weeks.

I didn't notice any irritation or dryness. The treatment gel you use after the face wash states it is exfoliating you might want to start off with using that once a day as its probably the most irritating. but the moisturizer works really well. I do have sensitive skin but it worked really well for me. Hope this helps.

Other similar acne systems would seriously irritate my skin after the third use or so, but I've been using this every day for 2 weeks and not a single bit of irritation! I use the cleanser, toner (bought separately), and lotion daily, and the others every other day alternating. No irritation whatsoever.

Hello there!
In response to your question on weather or not this will dry/irritate your skin. My suggestion is take the cautious approach, use about half the recommended application the guide enclosed with the starter kit, suggests. allow your skin to become acclimated and then you may gradually increase to the suggested usage. If in fact your skin does react to a dry flaky texture, this is okay as it is a sign of your skins reaction to medicated product. If you are unsatisfied with the result sephora does offer a generous return policy.

I wouldn't recommend it. The entire kit itself can be very harsh on the skin (especially the exfoliating gel). If used once per day and in very small amounts, it could be possible but I would honestly recommend Philosophy's acne treatment line moreso.

I wouldn't. The formulation is too strong for his sensitive skin. This is more for people who have a lot of acne and have used a lot of products before. My skin is sensitive too and it made my face so dry. If you happen to buy him anything else for acne, make sure you talk to a sale associate and tell them about his case. They might suggest to use the product at night or in the morning so it is not too harsh as some of the ingredients can be.

Question
Red bumps
I just started using this system about a week ago, and it felt really great on my skin at first. I used it mostly as described, but I read the exfoliating acne treatment gel could irritate, so I only used it once a day. I know it says breakouts usually occur for the first two weeks as impurities purge, and while I'm getting that, I'm also getting red bumps, patches of dry, flaky skin, and it feels tight after I use the cleanser. It's like my skin's more irritated than breaking out, though some of it is the purging pores. I have sensitive skin (I was using Proactiv before, but I had to work up to it very slowly), so I started using smaller amounts of the products only once a day and the exfoliating acne treatment gel every other day. Sometimes it seems like cutting back is helping (I will eventually work up to all products twice a day, or that's my goal), but sometimes it seems like the bumps are spreading. Is this part of the process? Am I having a negative reaction? Should I continue to try to work up to the recommended usage for the full 4 weeks?

yes , the red bumps will come as a start because its going deep pulling up all old clogged skin but once its done and you do it right it will really be worth it . if you dont see any change and the red bumps are really not going anywhere that can mean one of 2 things you are using to much of a product, or you are using it too many times a day so just tone it down

Definitely continue... I just added a review urging those that have started not to quit it. It took 2 months to see 70% clarity and 9 months later I am totally satisfied and glad I didnt stop. It made a mess of my face the first 2 weeks, but the alternative that I was using was ProActive and it didnt work and aged me. This product has given me youthful looking skin and I am super pleased.

The product worked for me from day one, it never gave me any side effects or caused any irritation. My skin is very sensitive and it has worked very well. But if I feel my skin needs a break from any of the creams. At night all I do is wash it and put the exfoliating gel and nothing after it to let my pores breathe.

The first week or two, I too, had very dry skin, stinging, burning, flakes, and breakouts. But after about a month of use my skin has gotten so much better and is almost clear. However, if it becomes too unbearable I would definitely stop it and consult a Murad professional.

Question
how long before there is improvment/
My 20 year old daughter was using proactiv, which she likes for her minor monthly breakout but I got her this set because I thought it was better for her skin. Now, after 2 months of using this I have never seen her skin worse!! She has never had such bad acne in her life..I told her it could get worse before it gets better but this is rediculous!..I'm suprised she is still sticking with it..It is breaking my heart to see her confidence crumble

It could have to do w/ the use of the Proactiv. Years ago an esthetician advised me to stop using Proactive b/c she described it as putting a barrier on the skin so nothing else can get in to cause you to break out but the stuff already in the skin can't get out properly. Maybe now that she's stopped the Proactive-stuff is coming out again. I would check out Caroline Hirons-she's an AMAZING beauty blogger & has totally changed my skin care routine! A lot of the products she recommends can be found at Sephora!

answer 3
I'm just a random person who has used this product recently so don't take my answer as gospel or anything. BUT, I'm 42 and have hormonal acne, which is silly for my age but nothing would work. When I began using these products, the acne-aging value set, my skin did break out more in the first 2 weeks or so. However, that is normal as it was cleaning out all the junk that was in there–my pores–already. After the 2 week mark, my face cleared out and I barely break out anymore, not even during my monthly. I love it. But beware, not everyone's skin is the same. If you can get past the 2 week mark and all of the extra break outs in the beginning, I think you'll love it too. Good luck.
