MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Rouge

What it is: A non-stop liquid lip color with the intense, long-lasting hold of a lip stain and the eye-catching shine of a gloss. What it does: Formulated with a combination of high molecular weight polymers and volatile oils, Aqua Rouge locks color on the lips for a waterproof, smudge-proof result that will not transfer or fade. Its intensely pigmented formula provides immediate, opaque color with a matte texture and its non-sticky, clear top coat adds an extreme, lacquered finish. Aqua Rouge’s double-ended packaging allows for a simple, two-step application: apply lip color with precision using the ergonomic, foam applicator and evenly distribute the clear top with the polyester brush to lock the color onto the lips. What else you need to know: Waterproof, highly pigmented, and smudge-proof, the Aqua collection of long-lasting lip and eye colors was created for the Parisian Aquatic Ballet. Tested under water for five hours, Make Up For Ever’s longest wearing makeup has an extensive palette of high-performance colors with non-stop results. Pair with Aqua Lip for an unstoppable long-lasting lip. Sephora is the exclusive beauty retailer for this product.

I haven't tried this in too extreme conditions, but it does seem to resist moisture. You may need to reapply gloss, though.

The top coat may not be, but the base coat is water-proof, food-proof, make-out session-proof, dinner-proof, hot drink-proof, and just about anything else-proof.

Make sure you have a good makeup remover.

Yup! For the first few hours its pretty much everything-proof. The stain really will stay for almost an entire day unless you really try to rub it off (which I don't recommend, lest you end up with bright pink all over you).

The makeup artist used the aqua liner on me, and it worked out. However, I never use a liner and it still looks amazing (I promise I'm not delusional!), you just have to make sure you apply it well, and watch the shape of your lips when you do.

That's how I do it & it looks GREAT! Just make SURE UR using the "makeup forever" brand liner, cuz OTHERS r NOT waterproof & will wear off quickly leaving UR lips unfinished looking! & always BE SURE to use SAME COLOR (or as close as u can get!) liner & lipstick, so not to look like a throwback from the 80's, when using a MUCH DARKER liner was IN! Yikes! Have FUN!

Use a lip liner brush if you don't like the applicator. Follow your lip line but don't apply to the very edge of your lip. Trace the edge of the liquid lipstock on your lips with a finger to blend any hard edges before it dries. Apply the gloss if you want. It looks good without it. Boom! You're done.

I really liked it for this product. I was going for a nude lip, so it may be different if you're trying to color the lip... you might be better off going for the matching aqua lip. I prefer the clear lipline perfecter as it makes the overall look more natural.

I can vouch for the olive oil because I use that too! I had the hardest time getting it off, until I realized it is impervious to everything but oil so I just rub olive oil on it and bam it comes right off! no mess!
Any kind of oil, if you don't have oil, just use some other lipgloss that is not the one it comes with because I had put another lip gloss on it and it just rubbed right off.

Question
How long does it Really Last?
Searching, searching, searching for a lip stain that lasts at least half the day. All day is the goal, however. Tried Stila and Hourglass. Did not last for me. Note, I drink lots of water thru a straw all day. Does this stain really last all day?

Yes it does and to really test it out I French kissed my bf and it still stayed and I've slept through the night with it and it stayed on as well
But yes just like the other commenters were saying, it will come off if you eat oily foods

it's better than a stain, it's like a lip tattoo because it really DOES NOT COME OFF! (except with greasy or oily food or products) oil is the only thing that it is susceptible to, but waterproof yes! This is the only one I can wear and then kiss my husband right after, he knows it won't come off on him. I eat meals and it stays, I even ate a WHOLE apple, that's right!
The sales person in the store told me how they test this product on different kinds of water so it is waterproof in all kinds of water -- regular water, salt water, chlorine water, etc.

Hope this helps!

It's really going to depend on what you're eating. If you're going to town on chicken wings or ribs then no, it will not last all day, maybe not though the meal. If you're eating salads and non-greasy foods, then yes it will definitely last most of the day. If you use a gloss/chapstick other than the one the stain comes with, then it could wear off more quickly.

YES! I put my lips on at 3 on Thanksgiving, ate a full meal, and at 10 my lips were still red as when I put them on. There was wear in the middle from all the eating/drinking but not enough to make me upset. If you drink through a straw all day you shouldn't have any problems with this!

It is definitely okay to reapply, I have found that with using these lip stains, a lot of product is on the brush so i always wipe it on the inside of the tube at the top first as to not waste product and better control the amount I put on. So far it works great and I am able to reapply the #2 easily, I also have #9 and since its brighter, it can be a bit more difficult, but still doable.

It depends on what tool you are applying with. A thin lip brush works amazing, but if you are on the go, just make sure to really scrape off the excess lipstick back into the tube and use the tip of the felt for better precision.

Question
rosewood vs. light rosewood
Does anyone know which is the darker of the two? Light rosewood by name would lead me to believe it's lighter in shade than the rosewood, but it looks darker and what about the numbers?

Have you tried the lipstick finder on the Make Up Forever page? It might give you a sense of which would be more flattering.? If that doesn't map on to the Aqua Rouge, I'd have to say the difference is in shade value. The Light Rosewood looks like it is "cooler" in shade (in terms of skin tone, obviously). Might be worth a try to call and inquire. This product is worthless if the shade is wrong as it is so dramatic.

i originally wanted rosewood, as it's a more pigmented version of my lipcolor but they ran out. rosewood is number 2, and light rosewood is number 14 i'm pretty sure and light rosewood IS a lot darker.

answer 3
Definitely #2. I don't look at the names anymore, more the colors. I got the 2 first, thinking it would be somewhat light. I was very wrong. It was quite dark for my fairly light complexion. I think it's because there is so much pigment. As an artist, I can tell you that more pigment means a higher quality product in the long run. That's why cheaper color products in drugstores are indeed...cheaper. Yes, though, it is lighter, but keep in mind, it is still a bold color. The darker of the two, the one in the teens, looks darker in the picture. If you look, you can tell the difference. If you are near a Sephora, you can definitely tell the difference trying on the two, but online you can see the difference if you highlight the two different colors with your mouse. Hope this helps.

I totally agree that the names are confusing! The Sephora employee picked out #2 and #14 as the best shades for me. #2 is lighter, despite the name! Both are lovely, I went with #2 because I wanted something for every day use, so #2 is pictured here. It's perfect for my needs (even a little darker than I expected because it is the opposite of sheer!). I may pick up #14 at some point for evening wear. Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get a good color from this brand. Bummer, too, because the consistency is great and the coverage is nice. I bought the lightest one, which I now call "corpse" and then I purchased the next darkest color, which is horribly dark called Rosewood. It's hard to tell online. I'm on my third try on this to get a good color...
