Maybe a litle but not nearly as bad as other volumizing products that I have used. I do not feel that I am doing any damage to my hair by using it.

Volume will cease to exist, darling, if you consider even flatironing your hair! Your best bet will be to blow dry your hair lightly, then flatiron midshaft to ends. That is, assuming you have straight/slightly wavy baby fine hair.

I find all this brand's products to be very conditioning. This one adds volume, but it sounds like you need conditioning more than volume, so look at their other spray products that make your hair super soft and consider a hair mask. I hope this helps.

The bottle says to apply before blow-drying, but I usually let my hair air-dry. Will the product work anyway?

Probably not. I have tried it and it fails in this sense. The same brand has another product that works quite nicely if you air dry your hair: the volume boosting creme. It comes in a small, pump bottle (peach/orange colored).

This stuff definittely worked for me. sprayed it on at 0430 this morning and only ever blow dry my bangs (that's my troublesome, frizzy area) and the rest air dried. there is some definite volume. I definitely see the product has worked for me even without having taken the blow drier to it.

Something to keep in mind is that if you have super long hair (beyond your shoulders) then the weight of the length of hair may be pulling it down. I have shoulder length hair and there are a few things I do: 1) After washing my hair and spraying the product on, I put my hair up in a scrunchy to dry the roots up. This makes the base of my hair dry up instead of down. If you sleep that way, you'll wake up with nice 'beach waves' 2) If I want to wash and go then I do the scrunchy trick while I apply my make up and dress, then take it out, blow my hair upside down. If I want it straight, I straight iron my hair straight up. I hope this helps.
