I use this for my liquid foundation, but you can use it for powder or pressed foundation as well. Personally, I like my brushes for powder to be a bit bigger; the size of this one allows for more precision.

great for ALL foundations- you will want to build your coverage in light layers until your desired effect is reached. use a small amount at a time to avoid streaking and heavy-looking application, have a make-up removing cloth or some cleansing spray and a paper towel handy ready to remove excess in between the applications which you should allow to dry if you are going for a full-coverage look, and repeat as necessary :)

Yes it is. I use the NARS foundation, that itself is quite thick. It's all about the blending, try circular motions through your face.

Absolutely! I use a fairly thick foundation, and I have had no problems. The bristles pick up just the right amount and smooth it evenly over your skin. It is fabulous.

Sephora carries two types of brush cleaners: daily/in between and the brush shampoo. I use the brush shampoo when I give all my brushes a thorough cleaning, and it works really well. The daily one is more for if you want to use the same brush with different things and just need to clean it quickly.

You can buy the daily cleaner and wipe it on a dark facecloth or a tissue. I wash my brushes weekly with a clear shampoo.

You need to get a brush cleaner - Sephora has a good one (their own brand). I use Bare Minerals brand brush cleaner called Well Off. Just rinse with warm water and a little dab of the cleanser.

My favorite cleanser for any type of brush is Johnson & Johnson Head to Toe Baby Wash. You can also use Baby Shampoo. If the metal of the brush is pinched at the head clean from side to side, in a windshield wiper motion. If the metal of the brush is round and not pinched, clean in a circular motion.

Hi Clarine1953-

We recommend the Sephora Collection Daily Brush Cleaner http://www.sephora.com/daily-brush-cleaner-P208011?skuId=1069947. Apply a bit of the product onto the brush and swirl it on a paper towel to remove access make up.

With mild soap- I use Philosophy's Purity. You just mix a little with warm water and gently swirl the brush in your palm in an X motion, then rinse with warm water. I then take a dry face cloth and gently squeeze excess water out, shape the bristles with my fingers and hang upside down to dry (you can use a hair elastic to hang it with)

I've been using this brush for the last month and although the bristles might feel hard for you, I can honestly say that when I apply my makeup, I could use this brush on my face for hours. It's actually very soft and I find the quality really good. I've used a different cheaper brush before and found that it would leave my skin irritated and itchy, not the case with this one.
If you always use a brush to apply your foundation, I would say this is a must have. Absolutely worth the price.

The brush bristles feel softer than they look. I use my brush with different kinds of foundations and it works well with all. Just add a little foundation at a time and work it in a circular motion for a flawless finish

Hey Sweetie, I know exactly where you are coming from.
I felt that way when I bought my first foundation as well.

This brush is amazing! I absolutely love it! The bristles will get hard if you don't wash it at least once a week. I recommend after you use it, swirl it around in a paper towel with alcohol this will eliminate any bacteria for your next use.

It is worth the money, it lasts a long time, and it applies my foundation evenly.

I love it!

I hope this works! :)

I find this brush works well by applying liquid foundation on my hand and swirling the brush on my hand then buffing it into my face. If it's a Matte foundation try applying small dots on your face and spreading with fingers first since Mattes tend to dry quickly, then buff and spread with the brush. The brush is dense which makes it good for buffing giving good even coverage.

Question
Is this brush larger or smaller than brush #55?
I currently own the pro airbrush brush #57 and I LOVE it for applying foundation and concealer to small awkward areas. But now I need a larger version so I can blend out larger areas such as jawline and forehead. I am stuck on weather I should get #55 or #56 and I cannot tell the size difference via the online photos. But I also cannot get to a store at the moment. So between the #55 and #56, which brush is larger? Thanks!

I use all of these brushes with mineral foundation.

#57 is great for concealing for small areas (small brush with shorter bristles)
#56 is great for concealing for larger areas (mid-sized brush with shorter bristles)
#55 is great for blending out and providing a more natural finish (mid-sized brush with longer bristles)

The difference is in the length of the bristles. I like the #56 because the bristles are a bit shorter which I like for buffing. I would go with that one, but that's just my opinion. I am sure you find pros for both!

The 55 is bigger than 56...
I use the 57 for concealer and hard to reach areas, the 56 for applying foundation and the 55 for powder......I find that i like the 56 for foundation because it's a lot firmer for apllying foundation than the 55......The brisles in the 55 are a lot longer than the 56 as well...... I hope this helps you.....

HUGELY upgraded! the bristle base is slightly more narrow at the base, but tapers at the top, and is denser but still very soft. the dense bristles give you a lot of pick-up control of the product, without any streaking as you apply. also, the pro airbrush collection is made to give you the look, regardless of what type of foundation product you use, of having been 'airbrushed' since it distributes very evenly and finely over the skin. it buffs product on, instead of being noticeable coverage. i also enjoy the longer tapered handle, which gives you more control. i could go on and on regarding this brush! i own two of the PRO airbrush #56 and the PRO angled blush.. and i'm a MUA with at least 200 brushes. these are really great.. i plan to add quite a few of the Sephora PRO collection to my kit!

The 55 brush is bigger and applies liquid foundation quickly. However, it's a loose bristle brush which makes it difficult to buff the foundation in order to really get it into your pores. The 56 brush has tighter bristles but it's too small and takes too long to apply the foundation. They should have made the 56 brush bigger.

I am sure that this brush will work beautifully for you with the powder. I have another brush similar to this one that I use to apply powder and it does a great job. I just swirl it lightly several times over the powder then tap the brush to shake off any loose powder, then buff it over my fave. Good Luck!

Try it and find out!

I haven't used the LM pressed powder, but it might work really well. I'm such a fan of this brush, I would try it. I would think that it would probably work pretty well, no matter the formulation.

Now I'm curious though. I'm going to try using this brush with a pressed powder, even though I don't use them often. What if you tried spritzing the bristles with a pre- or post-makeup setting spray to moisten the bristles enough to really pick up the product?

To be honest, these are two very good brushes. However, depending on the finish you want to achieve, there are some differences between the two. If you're using a liquid foundation and you want this airbrush, flawless finish, the #56 is the one you need to get! On the other hand, if you're using a powder and want a more natural look, the #55 is perfect for that.

#55 and #56 are similar, the difference is the length of bristles. I use #56 for my BB and CC creams, shorter bristles, more compact, but still airy. #55 is my go to brush for mineral veil, luminizer, longer bristles, more sparse bristles vs. being tighter and compact. Hope that helps!

How can I wash this brush for daily use?
I just began using this brush today, and I am unsure of how to wash it. The foundation I am using is Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation, which I spray onto the brush and then apply to my skin. Once I finish applying my foundation, how can I wash the brush? I plan on using it every day, so it must be ready for use within 24 hours.

if you want to wash the brush daily I would use the brush cleanser place it in a small spray bottle (if it does not come in a spray bottle already) and spray that on the brush's brissles and rub it on a tissue that does not shed or a paper towel and have it ready for the next day. Then do an intense clean once a week

I am a bit lazy and wash my brush about every 5-7 days. I have been using straight Dawn dish detergent, brushing it into the bristles with a gentle paintbrush-like back and forth motion, and then rinsing thoroughly. Hang it upside-down to dry using an elastic band and any knob or hook, and it is dry within 24 hours.
