Questions & Answers for Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation

Question
Is this proven to be waterproof?
I have a tattoo that not many people know about and I will be in a swimsuit for the majority of a week with family. Would this foundation work in a pool setting? Not fully submerged all day, but definitely the possibility of getting wet. Thanks in advance for your advice.

YES!
I just got caught in a TERRIBLE, torrential rain storm for 20 minutes, if not longer. [No umbrella!] It was basically like having the most powerful shower of your life.
When i got home this foundation looked ABSOLUTELY just as pristine as when I had applied it.
Seriously, this foundation is incredible for it's long-wear ability.

Have you tried the Concealer? You may want to use both for extra coverage. I haven't tried this over my tattoo, but it does cover scars well and blemishes well. I would suggest a liner, a concealer, and possibly the foundation. I also do oil cleansing for makeup which is the best way I have found to remove makeup. I have to Oil cleanse deeply twice to remove this. I haven't "tested" the water proof, but I always get my face wet first when I cleanse. It doesn't move from a splash of water. It will move if I splash it with water and then rub it around on my face with my finger tips, but it doesn't really come off with out a cleansing process. It will wear down eventually like everything does. I have worn this for 12 hours misted my face several times throughout the day with a hydrating spray of two parts water one part glycerine several times and the foundation didn't move. I hope this helps.

my usual makeup remover didn't remove it, so I would say it's completely waterproof....I had to wash twice, the washcloth didn't finish the job. You need a good makeup remover for this.

Question
Can this cover deep acne scars?
I mean I'm sure it can since it was designed to also be able to hide a tattoo. But might as well ask before I buy..

Absolutely! This has been an amazing addition to my beauty regimen. I use a very damp BB and tap the foundation left to right over my acne scars and it leaves my face looking smooth. I hve ice pick scaring on both cheeks. Historically no foundation has been able to touch that type of scaring. This foundation does. It sits on top of the skin, leaving a smooth canvas for the rest of my make up application.

It depends on the application. If you use a foundation brush and buff it into your skin, the foundation will fill your pores and provide a smooth cover. I have oily and flaky skin, so buffing doesn't work for me because buffing accentuates my flaking. I use a damp stipple sponge and push/bounce the foundation off my skin. It makes my large pore, acne scaring, and dog bite I received on my face as a small child look smaller and way less noticeable but it is still there. It is full coverage, but to make it look natural and skin like with out filling my large scars with makeup, the sponge motion works the best for me.

This foundation I think will cover just about everything. It goes on thick and is very pigmented, so it gets rid of redness really easily. After letting it set for a moment, it's pretty easy to build more coverage if needed with a brush.

I don't know what colour to order. I got 48 as a sample and it was too dark and yellow. I am blonde with hazel eyes and fair skin.
Could you send me samples of this foundation in the 42 and 44 shades?

Thank you

If forty eight was to yellow then you have pink undertones like me. 46 should do the trick.

The color spectrum for dark skinned women - **Online** - seems very good. If you are cappuccino, you would be like me, 66 or 68. I say that because 66 and 70 are sold at my local Sephora and I need to mix them to make the right shade. I have not actually seen the 68 or the 72. It does seem that the company has been inclusive of women with deeper complexions. The 66 is a bit golden/neutral and the 70 is very reddish (but it's great for contouring). I have used my samples for a couple of days and love the texture. It looks amazing, all day long.

Hi, the color specialist at the Sephora I visited is also a woman of color. She happened to mention that she wanted to use this product herself, but was unable to do so because none of the shades were a match for her. She said that the company was really interested in getting feedback so she was going to let them know. Hopefully they listen to all of you and make darker shades.

How long does the bottle last?
I know you don't need much to cover your whole face, maybe a pea size, but does anyone know how long the bottle is expected to last you?

It lasts me about 2 months. I use it for full coverage and with a foundation brush. I use only a little concealer with it and very little powder. I wish it lasted me a year but I have scars from previous acne.

I would say at least a year. I use about a pea size amount which gives me a medium coverage and it will easily last a year, maybe more. I apply it once a day and sometimes twice.

A lot less than a pea size. Start with a dab and a concealer brush, seriously.

Question
Would Light 42 work for me?
I originally bought this foundation in Light 44, since I kept reading that Light 42 is insanely light and that unless I'm Casper's cousin it will be too light. However, even though Light 44 is fairly close to my undertone (maybe just a bit too warm), it's just a bit too dark for me. In MAC terms, I would be about an N5-10ish. Should I give the 42 a try? I just don't want to waste my time (always have to order online because I don't have a nearby Sephora) on something that would be completely wrong for me. I love the coverage and finish of this foundation, so I'd really like to find a match. Thoughts?

Since you already have 44, why not get 42 and mix the two? They really should have a shade in between those two are they are quite different.

There's a big difference between those shades. 42 is very pasty looking with almost no color to it. I had samples of both and pretty much had the same issue. 44 is slightly too dark for me, but 42 is definitely too white. I wish there was a shade in the middle.

Rimmel Stay Matte is a nice less expensive alternative and my go-to powder with this particular foundation. I also like the MUFE powder, but I actually like the Rimmel better, go figure!

Question
What type of finish is this?
Is it super matte, or demi matte/satin? Because I prefer more of a demi matte. I have oily skin in my tzone but I feel extremely matte foundations look sort of cakey and dry on me even with just a thin layer after a few hours.

I would say its semi- matte. I also add a couple of luster drops by Josie Maran or Make Up For Ever for a slight dewy finish.
