Questions & Answers for SEPHORA COLLECTION Anti-Shine Foundation Primer

Question
Is this the same as the now-discontinued brown tube?
I bought Sephora anti-shine primer in a 1 oz brown tube on clearance, and I do like it, but it's very strongly perfumed. Even after some time and after other makeup, I can still smell it, and it's bad enough to give me a headache so I can't use it. (I had to wash my face after an hour.)

I do like the formula, so I'm wondering if this .5 oz pump is an improved, unscented version, or if there is an unscented version. If so, I'd be willing to give it a try once I run out of the several other brands I have and like better, if only for being unscented.

I'd like to believe the one I got was on clearance because of that horrible perfume and that Sephora learned their lesson. Is this the same formula, complete with old-lady-ish brain-busting floral perfume?

This product still has a chemical smell to it, not so much floral, but almost alcohol like. But I don't smell it after I put it on my face but I wouldn't say I have a sensitive nose either. Sephora has a great return policy so if it bothers you then return it.

There is no smell to this bottle which is great. However, the formula seems different. The brown tube kept me matte throughout the day, but this new formula I still get shiny.

This primer is unscented, but I think they changed the formula as well. It does not control oil AT ALL.

This is the first time I've used the shine-free sephora brand foundation primer, but it does work really well like what you described. I'm thinking its probably the same formula, but there is no strong perfumey smell to it. I believe it's unscented because I haven't noticed any kind of smell to it.

This product is completely odor and perfume free. I have a sensitive nose myself and would never be able to tolerate a fragranced product. Hope this helps!

I haven't used the old one, but I can tell you that this one does not have a strong scent. It smells sort of floral to me, but it fades within minutes. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me that it's actually unscented and I'm just imagining the scent because the other primers I've tried smelled so terrible.

Its not the same formula. I was hoping for it to be too, but i was disappointed. Not as matte as the brown tube. As for the smell, the new formula has a very faint smell of some kind of floral concoction.

Use a moisturiser before the primer and make sure your moisturiser is fully absorbed into your skin before applying the primer

My face is very oily in some places and very dry in others. I use a moisturizer before applying my primer. I know some people use primer as a moisturizer. Because I'm combination, I cannot.

Depends on how dry your skin is! I have combination skin, but very 'shiny' skin after a few hours. I wash my face, then apply moisturizer. I then wait for several seconds, then pat my face lightly with water, rubbing the water over the moisturizer. (I always, always leave a good eye moisturizer on my eyes!) When dry, I spray a finishing/setting spray over my face, then while wet, apply the Sephora Anti-Shine Mattifying Lotion. Then 'Do' your face. After, spray once again with your setting spray. Tah! Dah! Your 'face' will stay ALL day! :)

Yes, as I find that this primer is not very moisturizing.

Use a moisturizer (ideally with SPF to protect your skin), let that set for about 5 minutes, then apply the primer on top.

I have been using this primer for about a month, and I always use a moisturizer with it. Even though I have combo skin, I never go without moisturizer. This product can feel a little sticky when applying (not overly sticky), so I find that a moisturizer helps this glide right on and keep makeup in place!!

I think moisturizer before primer is a must. Just make sure it dries before putting on primer.

Question
this vs. Benefit POREfessional?
How does this product compare to POREfessional at controlling oil? I have combo/oily skin in the t-zone and like how POREfessional keeps me matte most of the day, but am looking for an oil controlling primer without all the chemicals. Plus I like the price-point of the Sephora primer. Does it match up?

I found the Sephora primer better at controlling oil than POREfessional, but the POREfessional creates a smoother base for foundation and minimises pores better, so you will need to weigh up the pros and cons of oiliness vs smooth base & pore minimalisation.

I've tried the Pore Professional and also Urban Decay's product. I like this one so much better, and not only for the price! It's less on a 'layer' on your face! It's more of a lotion, goes on smooth and silky, but not 'silky' like those silicon primers that are out there! The mattifying powers last all day (For me!) with a good 'setting spray'.

I use this with the Benefit POREfessional. I have combo skin, and my pores are a little larger on my cheeks. I use this product to keep my makeup looking fresh longer, and I use the POREfessional to fill in pores. For the d, I pat the product into the skin only on the areas where I have large pores after I have used this product all over the face. I do not find the POREfessional keeps me matte which is why I began using this product. Hope this helps!!

I have used Porefessional, and I have to tell you - this product is much better in my opinion. Not only is the price point highly enticing, but the product itself layers well and lasts throughout the day without feeling heavy, oily or greasy.

About a week after I started using this, the pump just stopped working... now I've got to either scoop it out every time I want to use it or smack it really hard upside-down to get anything out. Does anyone know how to fix this???

If you take it in, they are happy to replace it...I've unfortunately had to do it a couple of times. If you have your receipt, that's great, but it's not like they can't recognize their label :)

It really helps with making your foundation "stick", takes away lines or smears in your application. I really like this Sephora Anti-shine because it moisturizes too. I also use Cover F/X primer and bare mineral primer only works well with bare minerals loose powder.
