is it true that these type of files are better than the carton ones?
i've heard they are better because they dont make your nails split if that makes any sense. but i've never really used one of these before. please answer

Since I switched to glass files I've had much less peeling. It's also a gentler, more efficient file. I wouldn't use anything else now!

Yes, so much better. And so much cheaper too! The paper files I used to buy were $16 from the drugstore and would be unusable within weeks. This is just $10 and it'll last me years!

This file does NOT split the nails like the emery boards or the metal ones do. I highly recommend.

These files are much better. In fact I threw away all of my old carboard files. When this one starts to dull just rinse it in cool water and it's like new again. They last for years.

Do you mean emory board? I think they're great, and will never use anything besides a glass file. My nails don't split anymore.

I much prefer these glass or "crystal" files to the "diamond" ones as I can smooth edges on my nails even when they are polished without making the polish chip or peel away!

The file has a very fine grade, so it leaves your nails really smooth, but does the work of a really rough file. Since starting to use this, I've def had less splitting.

I love glass files, they really help if you have nails that split or peel. They can also be washed and sanitized allowing to keep once for a very long time.

How thick is this nail file?
I have a similar crystal nail file, but it is too thick to be effective because I can't get it under my tiny nails.

It is more dense than a regular nail file. It doesn't work very well to clean under your nails, but I use another tool for that.

I find this one slightly thinner than my other 2 glass files. Definitely thinner than an emery board.

Total length is 5 1/2". The length of the file part is 4", and you have a smooth 1 1/2" handle.

Its close, but this new one is double sided, not smooth on one side like the older one, and also it is about 1/3 thinner.

What is the grit level of this file?
Most non-glass nail files are categorized according to their grit, usually a number between 200 and 600 (or higher). But I can't seem to find any information on the grit of this glass nail file. Any idea what level of grit this file has?

I don't know the grit of this file, but can tell you that I have dry and brittle nails, and this file is very gentle, leaves no rough edges-will buy several more for purse, nightstand, etc.

It does not have a rough grit. One side is a little stronger than the other, but both sides are a mild grit. They work fine for me and I play guitar and file my nails down every week.
