Questions & Answers for Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment

Question
What is the scent?
It's frustrating when reviewers complain about a product's fragrance without describing it. For Good Genes, is it floral? Musky? Patchouli-like? Marine? Citrus? What??? Thanks : )

It smells just like lemongrass. Very natural and it feels strongly scented when you first use it BUT the scent goes away quite quickly.

It's not cented but good skin care should not smell good. Added fragrance will promote collagen break down. It doesn't smell offensive to me. The 1st time u may notice a slight smell not a bad one. But it dissipates fast & you'll get use to it fast. It's lactic acid aka spoiled milk.

When I first applied it, the scent was SO strong and honestly reminded me of that chemical odor that plastic sometimes has! After 30 minutes or so it faded to a more bearable lemon pledge scent. Disclaimer: I am pretty sensitive to strong scents, so my reaction is probably on the extreme end.

The scent was very...unusual, I’d say. At first it seemed lemon scented to me, but that gave way to more of a mix of lemon and...it’s hard to say, but the only other place I’ve smelled something similar is on my kid’s dried clothes when they were babies and wet through their diapers. Sorry to be gross, but I don’t know what that smell is in Good Genes. Whatever it is, to me it is not pleasant, or acceptable in a product to pricey.

You can use it as a daily serum (apply a very light amount) or apply it thicker as a mask and then rinse it off. I use it in place of my moisturizer every day and just wash my face and then apply this when I get out of the shower. I use Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer on top of this once it has been absorbed, and my skin looks flawless without the heavily made-up look. Best stuff ever.

This product smells like lemons. I haven't found that the smell is a turn-off for me, and the smell dissipates pretty quickly once you apply it, so it's not as if you're smelling it all day, even though you are using it on your face. Some people might compare it to the smell of lemon Pledge. I am pretty sensitive to chemically smells due to my asthma, so I have to be very careful not to use products with overpowering scents and I have not had any problems with this.

The scent is mostly from the lemongrass and licorice. Check out the ingredients list. People are being way to drastic about the scent. It's an all natural product with strong plants in it of course it will be fragrant.

I didn't notice any kind of horrible smell at all. It did smell like something I had used before but I couldn't figure out what. Maybe the acids? It just smelled like a facial product to me. Unless you are extremely sensitive to smells and really just didn't like this one, I can't imagine why it would bother so many people.

answer 2
No no no! This is not a moisturizer nor should it be used to replace your moisturizer. This is a chemical exfoliant treatment serum, the glowing soft skin it leaves behind is due to the lactic acid etc. Ideally this should be applied after cleanser and toner, then top off with a facial oil or light moisturizer of your choice to seal it in. If you don't use a moisturizer it will likely dehydrate your skin (unless you are super oily naturally). I add 2-3 drops of clarions lotus oil on top and it works wonderfully overnight.

I have honestly use it in the day and night. I have normal to dry skin. My skin isn't overly sensitive. I also have never had any issue with this giving me any sensitivity problems. I like it in the morning & apply my moisturizer. Then later in afternoon my makeup looks great. I still have that glow to the skin this provides me with. I also use this at night after my clarasonic. I apply my serums the good genes & Luna oil moisturizer.

I have skin that reacts to allergens in the air, fair to say it can be sensitive. I used to think I have oily skin but since I started using a creme cleanser and not an "oil controlling" cleanser I don't have an oil problem anymore. This product is so wonderful, I started using it once every other day as a treatment, left on five minutes, and it stung the first four or five times I used it. I currently use every morning before makeup and as a treatment at night once or twice a week, no stinging. Hope that helps. It is really smoothed out my skin, I am mid thirties and I feel like it tightened up or plumped the right places so I look late twenties without makeup now (never would have gone without makeup even at home before this product).

As a fellow gal with sensitive skin, I think you'll be fine. To play it safe and ease in, I'd recommend you start using a smallish amount (maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of your sample packet) once a day in the morning.

I was brave and used my entire packet as a mask, and it did sting a little, but not extremely. The results were so great, though, that I still bought the bottle. I eased in by using not quite a full pump every morning, and it's the perfect amount to build the results. It just tingles ever so slightly and not unpleasantly when first starting to use it. After using it for a month, I don't feel the tingle anymore at all. If your experience is like mine, you won't regret this one.

I have very sensitive/ rosacea type skin that breaks out if anything irritates it. I started off using this every other night for a week. The first time i used it I was amazed. I have been using nightly since without any irritation and clearer, plumper skin.its not a miracle, but its the closest you will find in a bottle. I had to stop usong any mechanical exfoliants( clarisonic, scrubs, etc) just was making my skin too "angry" .wise choice on that glamglow tingle mask. It sent me into an irritated mess for a week with one use! I.was told lactic acid is good for.sensitive skin because it helps your skin hold moisture and it is a weaker acid. Give it a go.start slow.

Sensitive skin is a tough one...I have iron skin, nothing phases it, and this product *tingled* for about a minute on me! I would try a very small bit of this product on the lower part of your cheek and jawline to test out your reaction. This product is amazing so should your reaction be favorable I would focus its use on your "problem" areas and definitely avoid a good portion of your eye area. Good luck! Hope you love it as much as I do!

For people with sensitive skin (any skin type really) I would begin using this product every other night or every third night. I do not have sensitive skin and it does have a burn/tingle sensation. If it doesn't bother your skin then you can begin to use every other night or every night. I apply this product every other night (RX retin-a on alternating nights) after I wash my face with a gentle cleanser (non-foaming) while skin is slightly damp, and let it sink into my skin for 5-10 minutes before I apply moisturizer, which I highly recommend with use of Good Genes. So far this routine has worked for me with notable results the following morning. Plumper skin, reduction in appearance of fine line, and smooth evened out skin tone. Subtle results, but results that I have not received with other serums/treatments tried. If the burning/tingling sensation is too much rinse off your face. On a side note......beware of the smell. It's awful. But as stated earlier so far I am liking this as a nightly serum. Good luck and hope this helped.

Acne?
I have very oily, acne prone skin. I follow a good diet, exercise, etc. I take very good care of my skin, but I am still plagued with a few problems. I am always wary about trying new things, as they do not always agree with my skin. I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with this causing acne? I truly believe that this product has contributed greatly to the clearing of my hormonal acne. I only use it once a day, at night, with the ceramic slip cleanser. Using it twice a day seemed a little too harsh and drying for my skin, which in turn I think cause some unnecessary breakouts. Once I cut back to just once a day my skin was super happy!

dry, acne prone skin& incorporating into skincare
I have dry, acne prone skin. It's really sensitive, dryish but breakouts occur easily with irritants or anything too heavy. I have had lactic acid peels in the past that worked fine. So,I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this for my skin? I also was wondering if this was enough to replace a moisturizer? For reference,I use Fresh Lotus cream over Fresh seaberry oil. If I'm not wearing my foundation with spf,I use the SR spf moisturizer and mix my fresh in too in winter.thanks in advance! They don't have this in store near me.So I have to risk it with this one.

I have dry, acne-prone skin as well. My skin did not react well to this! My skin was smooth when I started using this; I was hoping to lighten some hyperpigmentation. Within two days my skin was bumpy & broken out with white bumps all along my jawline. I really wanted this to work & was hoping something else was causing the reaction, but I stopped using it for three days and my skin returned back to normal. I would recommend Ren over Sunday Riley, as their products are a lot more gentle.

I have heard to use it before Luna but to me personally this is a chemical exfoliant: it would exfoliate away all of the other good ingredients in Luna including the retinol if used before so I have always used Luna or any other oils after. Check out Stephanie Nicole on YouTube: she is the one the introduced me to chemical exfoliation and the importance of it, most other people on YT are just internet sales people but she is very knowledgable and works in the professional end of the cosmetics industry but has a history of schooling in chemistry and has some very helpful skin care advice.
