Questions & Answers for Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation

Question
Where are the rest of the shades?
There are more shades between 1 and 3.5...why isn't the entire shade range being offered?

So I just heard back from Illamasqua and they said the numbering was no mistake. The shades sephora has are exclusives to sephora (but will shortly be added to the Illamasqua website). So they ARE different than what is on the Illamasqua website, and sephora is missing (quite) a few shades. The lady recommended that I go into sephora to find my "perfect match". Too bad Illamasqua's line isn't available in most sephora stores...yet (hopefully).

I think the only shade they aren't offering is shade 2. I don't know where Sephora got the half-steps from, but the Illamasqua website only goes up in whole steps. I have shade 2. Shade 2 is VERY fair with pink undertones. In the bottle it literally is a whitish peachy pink.

Question
What's the best shade for NW 10 complexion?
I'm trying to pick the right shade from the online swatches, which is making me nervous. I have NW10 skin - usually I use the lightest shade of any foundation but I want to be sure. Any suggestions?

NW10 is a touch too dark on me and I found shade 2 (available on the Illamasqua website) was perfect on me. If you're a true NW10 you might be okay with 2.5-3.5 depending on your undertones. If you buy from Illamasqua's website you can't try and return though, so I'd start with Sephora and go lighter if you find shades 3 and 3.5 too dark.

I am a NW20 and I'm a shade 6.5. I would definitely go higher. To be on the safe side, I would recommend to go personally if you have the opportunity.

Question
Where is shade 2 or 2.5?
There is a shade missing and it is shade 2 or 2.5. Will this shade become available? Why are there not enough pale shades available in all foundations period?

Thanks! I did order Skin Base Foundation in shade #2 from Illamasqua.com. It is pale enough for my skin! No oxidation at all.

Shade 2 is available through the Illamasqua website. They do ship to the U.S. If you are very pale with pink undertones, shade 2 is totally worth getting it from the UK. I have also found Bobbi Brown alabaster and Burburry foundation in shade 2 to be great for pale skin with pink undertones.

You could also purchase the white and mix it in to your current foundation.

This foundation contains parabens as a preservative. I don't understand why it would matter, parabens have never been tested positive to having any negative affects on our health.

Question
Best way to apply??
Beauty blender, buffing brush, ect? Thanks!! Also, what the heck is with the .5's? Is sephora carrying shades with a neutral base?

I've found this to be one of the easiest foundations to apply. I put a dot on my finger and then dab and pat it all over my face. Then I take my Tarte foundation brush -- its kind of like a kabuki brush -- and buff it into my skin. It's fast to do and doesn't take a lot of work. I've never gotten a more natural, airbrushed look from a foundation before in my life!

Use a buffing brush. I use real techniques expert face brush. A little goes a LONG way. The yellow/pink are what they consider neutral I believe. The .5 shades are exclusive to sephora (at the moment) according to Illamasqua.

No, 3 and 3.5 are NOT the same! You are right: 3.5 is pink based while 3 is yellow based. The .5 shades are new ones that were recently added to the Illamasqua website. You can contact them through their website, illamasqua (dot) com. HTH.

I don't know if this helps but i'm shade 120 and I just bought 8.5 which is a pretty good match. Sometimes when I need a foundation to be more yellow, I'll mix in 123 with other foundations. Maybe 8.5 will be a little light? I noticed it does oxidize a little, but not alot.

Question
which color should I purchase
I am a light to medium. In the summer I freckle completely, so I appear a little darker, but not too much. In Chanel Vitalumiers aqua I am a 30 beige rose, in Estee Lauder Invisible fluid I am a 2CN2. Indrugstore foundations I am usually a beige or natural/nude. I have pinkish undertones and burn easily and quite a few times before I eventually tan. I will upload an image, but it is a darker lighting, so take that into account when helping me. THANK YOU!

Generally you can't. At least Sephora has a good return policy though. I'd recommend Googling pictures of people wearing the various shades of foundation in real life rather than going by the pictures on the Sephora site.
