Questions & Answers for Murad Time Release Retinol Concentrate For Deep Wrinkles

The first two answers are right! But I would just add that this had NO perceptible level of retinol or results for me. From trying it for a few weeks, I felt like it had such a tiny amount of retinol :(.

Algenist Firming and Lifting isn't supposed to be for deep wrinkles, but when I use that I can see results.

I switched to Dr. Brandt Ruby Crystal Retinol (2%), which the person above me mentioned -- much better. Still not a miracle, but at least I can see a little results the first week or so.

When a company refuses to give the percentage of a main active ingredient, it's typically because the percentage isn't very high. Typically if a retinol treatment contains over 0.5%, the manufacturer will advertise it like crazy! That would lead me to assume that this is at or below 0.5%.

If you're looking for high-impact retinol products on Sephora, the highest posted concentrations (as of 02/13) are Dr. Brandt Ruby Crystal Retinol (2%), Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM (1.5%) and Philosophy Help Me (around 0.8%, but not officially posted).

It kills me how little transparency there is in the cosmetics industry!!

Question
Help acne?
I got this product complementary though work. This product is catered towards wrinkles, but I wondering if it would help ance as well? I know retinol is really good for acne. The Philosophy Help Me is meant to treat both acne and wrinkles. Would this do the same?

Retinol is effective at treating acne and wrinkles (a miracle product!), but the other ingredients in this product may not work well for acne-prone skin. Since this product is marketed for wrinkles, it also contains a lot of deeply hydrating ingredients (like shea butter and hyaluronic acid) which plump up the skin to make wrinkles look less pronounced, but they could also aggravate acne.

My acne happens to be close to my wrinkles (on my forehead), and this product hasn't done anything to help my acne, although it hasn't aggravated it either. I would suggest you consider Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM--it contains more retinol than this product or Help Me, and actually did improve both my acne and wrinkles.

Cheers!

The most important thing is to apply this product at night!! Retinol is inactivated by exposure to the UV rays in sunlight, so using it during the day is a waste. Be sure to use SPF during the day, since retinol makes your cells even more vulnerable to sun damage!

When using this product at night, I would say serum first, then moisturizer, then this product. Wait until your moisturizer is fully absorbed to be sure it doesn't inactivate the retinol (which is a really unstable molecule).

Also, retinol doesn't function in a highly acidic environment. Look at the ingredients on your cleanser/serum/moisturizer, and make sure that anything ending in acid isn't too close to the top (except amino acids, which are fine). Typical offenders include glycolic and lactic acid, salicylic acid, ascorbic acid, and citric acid--use them in the morning instead to avoid interaction.

Cheers!

I had the mini size of this -- but found the applicator confusing... assuming the large size or your product is the same....

You actually squeeze it through that long neck spout thingy! But I agree, I could NOT figure this out.

It looks like you would twist or snip off the tip - but not, you're supposed to leave it intact and just squeeze hard.

Plus you have to squeeze SO HARD to get it to come out. Annoying as heck.

I also cut it open, just snipped the applicator tip right off.

You twist off the top, then squeeze the tube. There is a tiny hole on the back side of the tip where the product comes out. It comes out in small amounts because you really don't need much.

I've been using this under my eyes for a week without any issue. However my skin is used to retinol products. I would think irritation would occur if your skin wasn't used to such products or if you have very sensitive skin.

answer 2
I use PTR Retinol Fusion PM, and recently I've been using a sample of the Murad product. If you can afford to use one on top of the other, it can't hurt.

If you can only afford one, I would pick the PTR. First of all, it can be used on your entire face, and the Murad can't. It takes about as much PTR to cover you whole face as it takes Murad to cover just a few wrinkles (since the PTR spreads so easily), so the PTR is cheaper. Finally, PTR almost certainly has more retinol than the Murad. The PTR has 1.5% retinol, which is one of the highest OTC formulations around. Murad won't release their concentration, which typically means that it isn't very high--if their formula was greater than 0.5% they would be advertising it.

The one feature in Murad's defense is that it contains hyaluronic acid which temporarily draws water to the area, plumping the skin and making wrinkles temporarily appear less deep. However, you should only apply retinol at night (it's inactivated by UV rays), so nobody will actually see the plumping.

Cheers!

Question
What is the % of retinal in the time released retinal product...the thin tube?
I was using the MURAD time released....in thin tube but left it at vacation home. Dermatologist gave me another product with .01 % retinal and I'd like to make a comparison between the 2 products. I need to know how much Retinal is in the MURAD product.

Thank you
