Questions & Answers for Clarisonic Mia2™ Sonic Skin Cleansing Acne Clarifying Collection

Question
Break outs and Purging
Today is my 10th day with this product. My skin is breaking out a lot. I am kinda freaking out not sure whether to continue or stop using this product. Somehow it gives me good feeling because apart from acne my skin has become smoother but very less positive effect on acne. Its like 1 pimple is going and 3 of them are new break outs. Please suggest whether i should stop using it or not, it might not be suitable for me.

I think the bristles are too harsh for skin that is sensitve to acne breakouts. My suggestion would be to use the Mia2 on the areas free of acne and on the acne areas to clean manually. With acne, you DO NOT want to irritate your skin further because it prolongs the healing process. I found that by gently cleaning the acne areas with a simple facewash (something with Benzoyl Peroxide) my skin was less irritated and began clearing up. Unfortunately, acne takes time to heal. We that suffer from it learn patience fast. I have dealt with acne on and off since I was 14 (23 now). My best advice is to see a dermatologist. They will give you medications that will help clear your acne for good. I did this and am now acne-free. I couldn't be more happier.

It might be an allergic reaction to the brush. Try the delicate brush head instead. But if you havent exfoliated a lot in the past, you will break out. For example, my mom thought she had clear skin, but when she went to an esthetician for the first time, she extracted pimples that had calcified deep within her skin that weren't visible if you just looked at the skin. The sonic action break up clogged pores just like sonic action is used to break up kidney stones.

Keep using it! It typically take 3 months for a new skin regimen to start to show that's it's working.

i had to use this product with a really good skin care line... try the glycolic products from peter thomas roth. if you use a lot of make up (which i used to) be sure to use a facial wash each night that has a makeup remover in it (peter thomas roth and Purity both work great). I use the glycolic moisturizer at night only and that seems to be a huge part of my face clearing up. it did take about two weeks for me to see results. my face had a horrible break out as it was purging all the impurities out. but most importantly use a good skin care line in combo with the Mia2.

i use the mia each morning and night... dont give up... i am sure clearer skin is coming...

I use mine in the shower and so does my daughter. After cleansing my face I rinse the entire unit quickly and dry lightly with a towel. I have a dish outside the shower to set it on so it dries during the day. You can pop the brushhead off periodically to check if the inside is ok.

Yes. I use mine every morning in the shower. Just make sure you put it somewhere to dry out. Letting it stay wet all the time is gross.

I was in the same situation. I never had acne problems before and then all of a sudden I started breaking out. It was horrible! My fiance bought me this mia and I started using it in combination with Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Cleanser. It started helping right away and within a month or so of consistently using the mia twice a day, my acne problems were gone. Nowadays I use the mia once a day in the shower and continue to have clear skin and no acne problems.

I love this cleanser, and I have frequent mild acne, but bad enough to make me look in the mirror and cringe, and finally I knew I had to try something new, so I gave this a try; and honestly, it is some of the best $170 I think I have ever spent. It hasn't completely cleared my acne, but it does a fantastic job of keeping my face clean (which is half the battle), and I have noticed a difference in the size, redness, frequency, etc of my acne. I think though that the cleaner it comes with isn't the best, so if you have a cleanser you like better you may want to use it, but I say give it a try. It has aided my self esteem a lot, but I still have a ways to go. Overall, my review of this product is two thumbs up.

I'm 22 with frequent breakouts as well. The Clarasonic did not clear up my acne, but it definitely improved it at least a little bit and it overall evened my skin tone and helped fade some marks.

Mia 2 hasd a timer to guide you through forehead, chin & then each cheek & it has two speed options. Mia 1 just runs for one minuute & only has one speed.
Also the acne Mia 2 has a new head that is specifically designed for broken out skin - bristle tips are slightly different to better scrub pores gently, reducing break outs & helping current break outs heal without additional damage.

I find I don't really need to clean it because I don't use it to remove my make up - I take my make up off first, then use it. If you use it as a make up remover, just use a skin friendly soap to clean it - since it still has to go on your face after you clean the bristles. Change the head every 3 mo or so.

I wash my Clarisonic brushes frequently (depending on my usage) w/ antibacterial soap, spritz w/alcohol, and air dry - bristles up. It is important to replace your brush often, just like your toothbrush!

My skin is combination as well, with dry patches of skin. I bought the Mia2 and it smooths it out nicely. Do you use a good moisturizer? I purchased Clinique anti aging moisturizer with SPF 25 in it, as well as the night cream. I'm 27 but I find that it makes my skin a lot less dry!

I would say that since the Mia2 Acne Clarifying Collection has the acne brush, this would be the best. It is gentle enough for the broken out areas but still exfoliating enough for the dry patches. The Mia2 also has the added benefit of 2 speeds and a 2 year warranty versus Mia's 1 speed and 1 year warranty.

I don't know if you would like the cleanser it comes with, however. Salicylic acid is pretty drying. You should try the Oil Cleansing Method, just search for it on Google and you will get all the info you need. It is super cheap and also really good for your skin.

I agree with everything in the above answer, except the acne brush is not softer and more plush than the sensitive. Acne brush felt like sandpaper on my face.

The Mia2 works the same as the regular Mia. The only difference is that the Mia2 has a timer and variable speed.

In this kit, the brush is the only thing that is different. It's softer and more plush than the sensitive brush. The kit also includes a salicylic cleanser.

You can buy the acne brush separately and use it on the Mia, Mia2, or Plus.

Question
Will I break out with this?
I bought a Clarisonic Mia (regular) a year ago and broke out SEVERLY after using it - it was not a purge, but my skin was reacting to this with cystic acne. It took about 8 months for this to all go away, and I am still suffering from post-acne marks. I later found out that you aren't supposed to use the Mia on acne because it "spreads the bacteria around" or something. I really want to try this new acne Mia out, but am scared that it's going to ruin my face again. Any thoughts??

I don't think it's so much the actual clarsonic that made you break out as much as it was the cleanser/treatment you were using with it. The actual clarsonic is literally just a brush that cleans better than your hands could. That being said, be sure to clean/rinse the brush head after each use and change it out regularly. Also, with the Mia2, I do believe the brush head is different than the original clarsonic, plus the cleanser that comes with it is formulated with salycidic (sp?) acid which is commonly used to treat acne.

All in all, I'd say get it and try it out for a month or so, if it gets worse and there's no improvement, take it back to Sephora (they have the most amazing return policy).

I've been using this for over a week and the first week, my skin was getting smoother each night I used it, but after a week, I broke out from it. I'm not sure if this is a purge or a monthly hormonal thing, but I think I will keep using it to see how my skin is after a month because I feel like my skin in general is cleaner. I haven't tried the cleanser yet because I still need to finish the cleanser I'm using, so maybe I will have different results with the cleanser it comes with. I hope this helps!

I also have acne scarring and after using this for a couple of months I can say the overall texture of my skin, scars included is much better. The device exfoliates your skin continuously so it is slowly removing layers from the scars. I doubt complete removal will occur but it will without a doubt improve their appearance. It just takes some patience, which for me is very difficult. The fact I've already seen satisfactory results says something! Good luck!
