Questions & Answers for REN Rosa Centifolia No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm

Question
OK to use for congested skin?
I have very dry but congested skin and was told by my derm to use a gentle, non-foaming cleanser to try and balance out my skin. I've heard great things about this cleanser but want to know if people with similar skin have had success.

This is great for ALL skin types. Many people prone to acne think they need a foaming cleanser. Not so. You don't want anything that changes the pH of your skin and leaves it vulnerable. You will be asking for MORE acne not less. That's why a cleansing balm is key. You have to heat the water, and take proper time removing it, and it doesn't alter the pH of the skin.

Please try it. It is insane how it is both amazingly gentle and truly cleanses your face. It is simply the best cleanser I have ever used and I have used a lot. I used to use Josie Maran before this and was totally satisfied but on a whim purchased this because of the good word. I will never turn back. This is also my go to gift, as the packaging and the sweet little cloth that is included makes it so special. The scent and the way you apply it (read the instructions and follow them) makes it as if you have gone to a spa. I actually look forward to starting and ending the day because of this product. No lie.

I have congested skin and I find that it works great for cleaning your skin but it won't treat your congested, acneic skin. Use this as a face wash but use an acne treatment afterwards.

I love it for congested skin. It melts off your makeup & with regular use, it will melt away dirt, debris, excess oil, and train oily skin to produce less oil. I definitely do suggest using it just as a makeup remover if your skin is congested. Follow with a cleanser that has willowbark, salicylic, sage, or some other pore clarifying ingredient. Ren's cleanser for combination skin is a great cleanser to follow with.

Question
why can't I get this cleanser milky?
I have used this a few times but it never turns milky on me and I think that's the reason why my face has a sticky feel to it after cleansing. I did exactly what the instructions say, in fact I've used cleansers like this before and it became milky. Am I doing something wrong?

You may not be using enough. I use about the size of a marble worth for my whole face. Rub that onto your dry face for a few minutes, then wet your hands and go over it all again. It doesn't get super milky, but you will feel it change consistency after you massage with your wet hands. I hope that helps.

To get it 'milky', I just wet my fingers and rub the balm between them like I'm warming it up. It doesn't turn to milk per se, but definitely milkier as opposed to 'oily'. If you already have it on your face, I would also just wet my fingers and massage the area where I want the balm to be 'milky'. Hope that helps!

Balms and oils always have to be removed with warm water. Try getting a wash cloth wet with warm wet and holding it over your face for a few seconds to emulsify, then start rubbing it away. You might want to rinse each time before you put it back on your skin.

The directions for this are ridiculous. The proper way to use a balm cleanser is (1) apply to dry face and massage around to remove your makeup, (2) wet a washcloth (not the thing it comes with) with warm/hot water, (3) hold on your face to melt the cleanser, (4) rub cleanser off. This exfoliates and ensures you aren't left with residue. Getting it "milky" is a waste of time because it doesn't actually remove the product (and doesn't remove your makeup and the dirt that's with it).

It doesn't get milky. I found the best way to use it is to rub it into your face, then wet the cloth that comes with it and wipe it off. After that wash your face with water and you are good to go.

Question
Clarisonic?
is this good to use with a Clarisonic? I've been looking for a creamy, gentle cleanser that won't dry out my skin AND works well with the Clarisonic.

Yes, I use this product with my Clarisonic. I massage it onto my face for a couple of minutes, then wet my Clarisonic brush, and then do the Clarisonic "ritual." I use the muslin cloth to rinse off/remove the balm.

This isn't good to use with the Clarisonic because it doesn't foam. It's great to use with a washcloth to remove, though.

I would not use this with a Clarisonic. It is quite thick, and it may lead you to have to change your brush head more often. I've actually been told by a dermatologist to not use anything but water with my Clarisonic...in other words, cleanse normally and remove all makeup, then exfoliate with my Clarisonic so I don't end up pushing makeup into my skin.

If you want a cleanser to use with your Clarisonic, I recommend Purity Made Simple by philosophy. It was the one I used to use. You can get the tiny travel bottle and it will last you forever, but I've found my skin has been at its best with just water after a normal cleansing routine. Any my brush heads do not get dirty or makeup-y at all anymore.

Using it with a Clarisonic is how I found out about it!!! The Clarisonic rep used the Ren Balm on me with the Clarisonic and it works fabulously! Plus you only need a small dab, much less than if you were to just use your fingers/hands to wash your face. I use it 2x/day with the Clarisonic and it's wonderful, removes all my makeup and leaves my skin so soft!

Yes I would assume it would be fine as a carry on. It's in a solid form and not a "liquid". You should be good to go!

You'd have to check current regulations but pretty sure it couldn't go carry-on. It's over 3 ounces.

I've been using Ren's cleansing balm for a bout a year. It's a tricky product, it only takes about a dime-size amount to clean the entire face. Put it directly on a dry-made up face then gently lather it up. It left me feeling pretty greasy so I actually would put it on, let it melt a bit then add Clinique's exfoliating scrub on top and it works wonderfully. Scubby, moisturizing, super clean results.

I am obsessed with this face cleanser but agree with, it's not always "milky" unless I'm using it in the shower. I think the warm steam helps create that texture

I have sensitive skin and this product works much better for me than Josie and her argan oil. It cleans very gently and feels lovely. I've tried many high end brands and this is my favorite of them all.......

The balm from Josie is a hydrating treatment, not a cleanser. This is 5 0z for $48, while Josie's is only 2 oz for a similar price. A more balanced comparison is with the Josie cleansing oil.
