Is it normal to break out at first from this?
I just bought this and the morning after first using it I had 2 huge pimples. Is that normal? I heard that it is just getting rid of impurities for the first week.

I had a couple of pimples pop up the first few times I used this, but I stuck with it and within a week and a half my face was clear. So I do think it is just cleaning out your face!

i did not experience any breakouts. i have very sensitive but oily skin. depending upon the kind of pimples you got, it may have had a cleansing effect & brought them to the surface of your skin (though nobody likes that!).

This cleanser is for detoxing and pulls everything out of your skin, some people experience break outs and that's normal.

Yes, this is black clay based, it will pull impurities out of your skin, but with any good cleanser it will make you break out in the process of healing your skin. You should only be worried if you have started a regimen (because our skin loves a regimen!) and the break-outs don't get better, or do get better, but come back a few weeks later worse. Also remember many break-outs are your body telling you something, you would be surprised at how much break-outs are due to food allergies such as milk. The forehead is the "wine and dine" area of your forehead, if you have constant little bumps on your forehead, there is a good chance you have a food allergy to something. Good luck!

No. This is supposed to clear up acne. My 15 year old uses it and she loves it. I would wager a guess that the two huge pimples were a coincidence?

Question
Do you have to use the whole line? Help?
Hi, this may be a really stupid question, but I have only used skincare that has been an entire line, (e.g. proactiv, etc) and I was wondering if you had to use the whole line of this product to get the benefit out of it or if it would be just as fine to use this cleanser and a different moisturizer. Again, sorry if this is dumb, I'm just a bit clueless when it comes to this stuff.

Of course the brands recommend that, because you'll be giving them more money! But honestly, I think you need to follow how your face and skin feel. If you feel that you aren't getting the results you want from just the cleanser, or just the mask, and you have the means to test out the whole line, by all means, do so. Often the items are complementary and smell similarly. But I don't think there's any "magic" to it though. I just splurged on the Boscia Black cleanser, but I'm not going to buy their whole line, because I'm already happy with another moisturizer-sunscreen I use.

This is the only product I use from this line and I still feel I receive the full benefits from this cleanser. I've had fewer breakouts since using it and my pore size has noticeably shrunk. I wanted something that would improve my complexion and tone without drying out my face and this product has done all of those things without the aid of other items from the product line. I definitely feel this an affective cleanser/ stand alone product.

no, you can mix and match products. but most lines are made with ingredients that compliment each other. so just be aware of the combination of products you use or you could stir up all kinds of unimaginable drama with your skin.

when i started using the line, i continued to use epicuren moisturizer (until i ran out & could not find it in my area). i didn't experience any adverse effects. in fact, about 6 months after i started using boscia, i purchased their eye cream because i was so happy with the other products. good luck!

Don't ever put yourself down by thinking something is a dumb question, it's a great question. I love this product and one of the best things about it is that you can or cannot use the other products that go with this line. Things that are annoying about Murad, Clinique, or Proactive is that you DO have to use the whole line. Bosia is not like that at all. You may break out after using this cleanser for the first few days but do not give up or get discouraged, it is just really amazing about pulling out all of the impurities in your face. Give it a week or so and you will have the best skin you've ever had! Hope this helped!

Question
If the Purifying Cleansing Gel was too drying for me will this?
The Purifying Cleansing Gel was way to harsh and drying for my sensitive skin so I'm curious if this will be too harsh and dying for me as well. And how does this cleanser with acne-prone skin?

This product will not dry out your skin. Gels do tend to dry out skin, so be careful with the gels if you are normally dry skinned.

I have the same problem. In the winter, the purifying gel is too much for me.
I also have sensitive/acne-prone skin.
I've been using the black cleanser for about a week and it's noticeably not as drying as the purifying gel. I can't say that it's been helping to prevent acne, but my skin certainly feels as clean as when I normally use the purifying gel during the summer.
Then again, it could be different from person to person.

Question
Can I mix Boscia clear complexion and black cleanser?
I live in a very humid climate (south china) most of the year and my skin is prone to acne scarring and discoloration and is combination in winter and oily otherwise. I was thinking of using the black cleanser in the morning and clear complexion with my clarisonic in th evenings. Would that be overdoing it?

I use the purifying cleansing gel with my Clarisonic at night when I am trying to remove my makeup. Then I use the detoxifying black cleanser in the morning. I have combination skin that is acne prone and have several acne scars. I have been doing this for months and it has worked great to remove makeup, clean up my pores, and keep my skin from drying out too much.

How does this compare to Murad acne cleanser for acne prone skin?

I've been hearing most people with sensitive oily skin broke out from using it. Keep in mind that if you have oily skin you want to use products that are oil free and non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. Do not use any products containing any sort of oil in it. your oil glands produces enough oil to lubricate your skin.
An antiseptic like Tea Tree Oil will help decongest congested pores and help with your break outs. I recommend trying Kate Somerville's Detox Daily Cleanser it contains Tea Tree oil to decongest congested pores and help with break outs. Give it a try!

This cleanser contains glycolic acid, which can inactivate retinol due to its low pH. It's hard to say whether or not the concentration of glycolic acid in this product would interfere with the retinol, since the concentration of glycolic acid isn't posted. However, given how expensive retinol can be, I wouldn't risk it. I use retinol nightly, except twice a week when I use a glycolic/lactic/salicylic acid peel, and I only use this cleanser on the peel nights.

Cheers!

I think it would be a bit too drying to use along with Accutane micro. It was drying on my skin (a former accutane patient and combo skin girl), so I would say you're better trying another product. One that I love is Fresh's Soy cleanser; it's cleansing without drying, irritating, or throwing off my pH balance.

I have combination skin and also use Retin-A (the regular Retin-A, not the micro), and have not had any issues with dryness, peeling, or flaking.

I typically only wash my face once a day, though. Unless I wear makeup, then I'll use a cleansing oil followed by a gentle cleanser in the evening.

Hope this helps!

I have been using this, in addition to the Purifying cleanser (alternate them) for a little over a month. My blackheads are not completely gone, but I have far less than before I started using this. I've always been told it can take several weeks to see complete results when changing your skincare regimen.

I'm not sure if it removes blackheads, as I don't have those. But I am firm believer that once they're gone, this face wash will
ensure it doesn't come back! My whiteheads and ruddish red zits haven't come back! I suggest trying Boscia's Pore Purifying
Strips to remove the blackheads. Then use this wash to make sure they don't come back. Hope that helps!

Question
Does it dry your skin out?
I have a hard time with cleansers - the purifying gel cleanser isn't quite strong enough for me, but the clear complexion cleanser is too drying for me. Is this somewhere in between the two, in terms of how "strong" it is?

I have used all three cleansers. The Clear Complexion Cleanser was too much for my skin. The Purifying Cleansing Gel was my favorite - it did keep the oil to a minimum, but I was still having occasional breakouts. I got a sample of the Black Cleanser over a month ago and loved it so much that I bought it - Detoxifying Black is my new favorite! My skin has never looked so clear and healthy! I still use a makeup remover at night, as this didn't completely remove everything. Also, I alternate with the Purifying Cleansing Gel at times, usually in the morning, provided I did not wear make up the night before. Being winter, the heat alone usually dries my skin out. I was pleasantly surprised to not have any dryness! The hydration my skin now has is amazing!

I have combination skin right now (in the winter), but my skin is normally oily. However, with all the acne breakouts my skin can get dry in those areas from using acne spot treatments.

This cleanser did NOT make my face feel dry at all. The warming effect is soothing and feels wonderful. After you wash it off your face feels clean, not dry. Of course you should apply a moisturizer when you're done applying all your skincare serums, but in general, no this did not dry out my skin.

It's stronger than the Clear Complexion Cleanser. It's deep cleansing. If CCC is too strong, and you still would like to try this, I'd recommend half a pump. It's highly concentrated and the first time will sting a bit - but the brightening and after effects are GORGEOUS! I've lived on boscia producs for the last 7+ years and I've tried every single product. This is their best one yet! :)

I've used this with the Clarisonic. I will apply one pump of this to my face and slightly get a light foam going, then I'll do one pump on the Clarisonic and clean my face as normal with the Clarisonic.

This cleanser is a bit gloopy, but still runny enough to use easily on your Clarisonic!
