I would assume that you could use the cleanser of your choice. I would say away from any cleanser that was drying as the level of retinol in this product could be drying for some people. I use a cream cleanser from a spa that I frequent and I haven't had any problems at all.

What to use for acne spot treatment when using Glow?

Since I've read that you shouldn't use salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide while using retinol products, what can I use for acne spot treatments? Although I've found that the overall clarity of my skin has improved since using Glow, I am still getting the occasional pimple but can no longer use my other spot treatment products since they are salicylic or BP-based.

You don't want to irritate your skin, but depending on what type of skin you have, and what's causing your blemishes, if you're using glow at night, you may be able to spot-treat with salicylic acid etc--applying only to blemish, during the day. Or, try something like tea tree oil! Jojoba oil is a miracle worker too. Don't be worried about them being oils--they naturally have anti-microbial properties and promote healthy, balanced complexions.

I've read that it's bad to layer products because you end up negating the effects of all of them. I use the Dr. Brandt retinol treatment at night only, then I use acne spot treatment, if needed, in the mornings after cleansing.

I agree with hyacinthgirl, sulfur products are the way to go (even though they can smell a little stinky). Another option is Blemish Therapy by Bare Minerals, which is a powder that you can wear day or night.

Also, it should be ok for you to use your existing products (SA and BP) in the morning, so long as the instructions for those products permit you to do so. The main reason you shouldn't use those products with a retinol/retinoid is because they inactivate one another when they are worn together. So long as it doesn't irritate your skin, they're fine if you use BHAs(salicyclic)/benzoyl peroxide in the morning, and retinol in the evening (since it is inactivated by sunlight).

Have you ever tried a sulfur based product? I know Murad makes a spot treatment that is powered by sulfur. I've used it and found it helpful. Also they have clarifying masks that employ clays and other great ingredients that would dry out the blemish without using harsh ingredients contraindicated with the Retinol.

I only use glow on crows feet and forehead areas, but I moisturize before with jojoba oil all over and buff with a cotton round then apply glow to the desired areas (causes me blemishes if I use glow all over)

This is a serum, so if you have dry/normal skin, you need to moisturize as well. I use Olay Regenerist after Glow to add peptides to my skin care regime. Spend your money on the serum.

I only put on eye cream and my neck cream and that is it so far, usually when I layer things it becomes too heavy for me and I can't wait the ten minutes after putting this on to put somethng else on. My face has not been dry at all from this and so far no other cream has been needed for me. I have some acne on my chin, but overall have normal skin, a bit dryer in the winter but this is all I am using and like it so far

yeah they will probably irritate your skin. retinols do have an exfoliating property, so that ontop of benzoyl or salysilic anti-acne topical products is too much.

This is 1.7 ounces, so there is a bit more than in other products where you only get 1 ounce. I took that into consideration when purchasing myself, and for the price, that amount seems okay.

Definitely! I say you can't start too soon. It is imperative that you protect your skin from sun exposure while using a retinoid. A lot of 19 year-olds may have trouble with that part of the regimen but you will absolutely be the envy of your friends with your smooth skin at age 30, 40 and beyond (when it really counts!)

Yes, it is. Just be sure to use SUNSCREEN. EVERYDAY. Retinols make you more sun sensitive so protecting your skin is key. Be sure to read the directions for using any products you're using to be sure you're using them correctly, but you should be fine with this product.

Having used Differin, Retin-A Micro, several others, this is a great choice is you have moderate acne, as the retinol in it is very concentrated (strong) at 2%, while most OTC products you'll find are, at their strongest, 1%. While Rx creams and gels will be stronger, what you should be aware of is their harshness if you have sensitive skin. You'll have peely, scaly skin for a month or two getting adjusted to the rigorous regimen of the drug, whereas Brandt's formula has an ingredient called Oliveactive that actually prevents this effect.

compared to retin-a this is much less harsh, no redness or itching, but not sure if it works as great for wrinkles or acne yet. What I do like is every moring I'm not peeling or red, but my face seems less plump and wrinkle free a bit...will comment again in a few weeks

i use the same product. however hyalauronic acid is a different compound. acid is the wrong way to descirbe it, since all it really does is hold onto 1000x its weight in water to keep skin soft. retinol has that active ingredient that exfoliates. so, using both shouldn't be a problem since they perform different functions.

I don't believe it has hyaluronic acid in it but you can use them together anyways. I use this as my serum with a hyaluronic acid moisturizer on top. You can use 2 serums on your face (because this is not a moisturizer) just apply the serum with the most liquid consistancy first, let absorb, and then apply the other.

You can still use a face cream after using this but wait at least one half hour so it can fully absorb. (I read this on the information sheet that I received with a previous retinol cream). I have found that when I use the Dr. Brandt, I do not need to use a face cream, but I have combination skin and I don't live in a dry climate. If your skin still feels dry after you use this, just wait the half hour and add your other cream.

Usually serum is not a moisturizer. Just a booster. Typically you put your cream or moisturizer on top of the serum. The serum goes on first. Then your cream/moisturizer... But be sure there aren't any counteract ingredients such as Vitamin C, Salicylic-acid which will interfere Retin-a, Retinol. Including toners.
