what is the best way to apply liquid foundation with this brush? dab it in foundation then apply or put foundation on the face then blend?

Dab a little liquid foundation on your face in several places then use this brush in circular motion to blend out the foundation on your face. Be careful to not use to much of the liquid foundation to start. You can always apply more if you want later. Less is more!

I squeeze a small amount of my liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer into my finger and I dab this brush to it, lightly, and mix into my skin. Repeat until you eat the desired effect on your face.

Since the brush is a little big I'd suggest to dab dots one forehead cheeks nose and chin then buff in circular motion. Hope this helps:)

Dot your foundation onto your face and use the brush to spread it smoothly all over - if you dip it or pour it onto the brush first, its just going to go deep into the bristles and get the brush dirty, and you'll be wasting your product - the brush is so thick only the tops of the bristles touch your face, and thats exactly what you want.

Hello,

I believe it would be more to your preference. Sometimes, I add some of the foundation to my hand, dab the brush onto my hand to pick up some product and stipple it on my face. Later, I blend it into my face using circular motions and increase the coverage level of my foundation by adding more product little by little.

You can also dab the foundation onto your face and stipple it across your face and blending in.

When I bought the brush with the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation, the make-up artist working that day said she actually dabs a bit on the forehead, down the nose, on the cheeks and the chin. I actually 'streak' it on and then use the brush....dab at first and then swirling buff the entire face. Hope this helps!

I put a small amount of foundation on the back of my hand and lightly dab the brush into it. Then, I just buff the brush around until I get the coverage I want.

Yes! I bought it to use with Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation, and while I wasn't crazy about the foundation itself, the brush works just as well with my regular liquid foundation. I follow the instructions that came with the brush, putting a bit of foundation on my hand and dipping the brush in before applying to my face in sections. It blends quickly and seamlessly.

Yes I use this brush with liquid foundation (Tarte's 12-hour liquid specifically). It does an excellent job. There's also a video on Tarte's website on applying it.

I don't know how well this would work with a liquid foundation. It was technically made to be used with the Tarte "Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation" which is more of a thick creamy clay formula, than a liquid.

I use this brush with my liquid foundations all the time! I usually start with a bit of the foundation on my opposite hand and dip the brush and blend right on the hand into the brush. That warms it up a bit, and will buff right into the skin with ease.

As long as you blend blend blend, you can use this with any wet (cream or liquid) foundation :)

I hope this helps!

Question
Synthetic bristles?
Imm assuming it is but we all know what happens when one ASSumes...
Im also assuminthe "bamboo" is referring to the handle, not the bristles.
I read the "Suggestions" here and it seems to be made to be used w a liquid foundation?? I'd just like to know if the bristles are synthetic or not (and also how soft, if anyones felt it...I hv the MUFE HD Powder brush and its so soft and great. Can anyone compare the two?)

I'm wondering if Tarte changed the way they made this brush. I contacted Tarte directly yesterday 12/12/2012 and was assured the bristles are synthetic. When I purchased this it was labeled "cruelty free" which is why I bought it. The goat hair comments here made me think I got an animal hair brush (which I am against) so I gave it away to my cousin. Then I heard conflicting info and decided to contact Tarte for myself. They told me it is 100% synthetic.

I just called Tarte today, because I had one of these before and I swear the bristles were different.. I don't remember them being all shiny and crinkled at the base like the ones I see now.. I also don't like the new handle, it seems.. cheaper.. the bamboo doesn't feel as strong/sturdy as it used to with the older brushes. Anyway, I mainly called to ask about the bristles because I read on here that a girl said they were made of goat hair.. and I swear the one I had before was, but these bristles just seemed too shiny to be real.. anyway, the girl said that they haven't changed the product at all and that 'they are still made of goat hair'. So apparently it isn't synthetic - which I didn't want anyway.

I thought it was weird that Sephora didn't list what the bristles were made of because they are usually really good about that.
So I emailed Tarte to find out if the bristles on the brush were synthetic or real. I got response back from their customer service department stating that the bristles are made of goat hair, but that no animals are harmed in the making of their brushes. Hope this helps.

I can't compare with the other brush but this brushes hairs are synthetic. it has this unnatural shine that isn't common in natural hair. the bamboo is the handle and it's really lightweight. i haven't had it for very long but right now it's really really soft. you can use this with powder or liquid and the brush won't absorb the product but so it will put it on your face.

Bamboo does refer to the handle only. I've already thrown away the packaging so I can't remember if it's natural or synthetic bristles. But I can tell you it is THE SOFTEST foundation brush I have ever used. Honestly, it kind of feels like rabbit....
And if the bristles are synthetic they've done an amazing job.
I've only used it with Tarte's Amazonian Clay foundation, which to me isn't liquid, although I'm sure it's classified as that. I used to use Make Up Forever's HD liquid foundation and in comparison, Tarte's foundation is more like a cream. But it works flawlessly with that product.
Hope this helps you out.

It's definitely synthetic. Tarte is a cruelty-free brand.

I'm kind of surprised that Sephora didn't indicate this in the product description. It's good you asked. I did my research before purchasing it as well. I wont ever use animal fur for any purpose.

The bristles are super soft, but I think it's natural hair, I don't think it's synthetic. I wish it was synthetic though. It is a great brush, and it's actually made to apply the Tarte "Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation". It also works great to apply powders and bronzers. And yes, the bamboo is the handle.

How do I wash this brush?

I just recently cleaned this brush with water and brush shampoo. I squeezed out the excess water, reshaped the bristles and laid it on a paper towel to dry. It held its shape just fine and feels just as soft as when I purchased it. I recommend using a shampoo or spray that is alcohol free so the bristles won't become brittle.

I feel that because the brush is synthetic the brush wouldn't absorb the product you use. In my opinion it gives you the same amount of coverage as using your fingertips but what this brush does is gives you an even application that looks soft. I think the amount of coverage depend more on the product you use than anything else.

I use Too Faced BB cream with this brush and it works magically! I don't like using my fingers for blending the BB cream because it doesn't blend as well as this brush. I use my fingers to dab on the BB cream on my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin, and then, I use the brush to blend it in circular motions.

Using just regular face cleansers will clean the brush but usually won't get the stains off and the problem with using hair shampoo is, if you don't rinse thoroughly, the residue left behind may irritate your face when you use it next.

I highly recommend Sephora's Anti-Bacterial Daily Makeup Brush Cleaner just to quickly sanitize/clean after each use and then Sephora's Anti-Bacterial Makeup Brush Shampoo w/ warm water maybe 1 or 2 times a week just to thoroughly get the build-up out and stains out.

Shape your brush then hang up side down to dry.

I used baby shampoo, then i washed it really well under warm water. If you don't rinse it well enough the bristles will stay stuck together and feel oily, so make sure to rinse all the soap out completely. This happened the first time I washed it, it dried and felt oily and all the bristles were stuck together, so i rinsed it under warm water again really well, let it dry and it was perfect. Hope this helps!

Question
vs. Hourglass brushes?
I'm curious if any of you have used this brush, and can compare it to the Hourglass #2 Foundation/Blush brush, or the Hourglass Finishing (kabuki) brush.
