Origins Clear Improvement™ Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores

What it is: A mask with activated charcoal to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers. What it is formulated to do: When environmental toxins, dirt, and debris get under your skin, its waste-filtering system gets jammed, pores get clogged, and skin looks cloudy. Nature's complexion clean-up crew gets to the bottom of skin's overcast condition and clears the way for it to act its best. What it is formulated WITHOUT: - Parabens - Sulfates - Phthalates What else you need to know: Activated charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers. White China clay absorbs environmental toxins, and lecithin dissolves impurities. Without all that stuff down there, skin breathes a sigh of relief. Best for all skin types.

Question
How long does the bottle last?
I was just wondering how many masks you can generally get out of this package? Rough estimates are fine, I just want to know if you get more like 5 uses or 20. Thanks!

Mine has lasted about 5-6 months. I absolutely use this mask 1x per week, but there were also weeks when I would use it 2-3x. Additionally, I layer the product so no white shows through.

I apply the mask every Sunday and it lasted me approx. 5-6 months. I spread a thin layer over the T zone, where the larger pores are located.

You should get many more than 5....I'm sure it depends on how often the product is used & how much you apply at each use. It comes in a nice size plastic bottle so it should last a while.

I have very oily skin and have never known this product to dry my face out. If you have sensitive skin, I would suggest only using it once or twice a week. I don't think it's good to use deep cleaning products like this any more than that. It's also very important to use an oil-free moisturizer when you have oily or acne prone skin. That will help with any drying you may experience from certain products.

This is not bad like the other clay masks out there, it is china white clay. So it is a lot more gentler. After anything that treats your skin from oil, bacteria, or acne, they do dry your skin out. So any treatments like so, use a good hydrating moisturizer or serum.

I didn't feel really dry after using it. With a clay mask you will get alot more oil absorbed so it is normal I think to feel a little dry. I always apply my moisturizer right after I use it.

How long to see results?
I have the most stubborn blackheads. I've tried other masks (peel and rinse), Biore strips and exfoliants and it seems like nothing works. I don't want to get my hopes up with this. How many uses before I notice a difference? I don't want to give up on it too soon either.

Def need to use it at least once a week to see any change in your face. It is not strong and doesn't strip good things out of skin so you wouldn't hurt your skin by using it more frequently.

This mask isn't as drying as most, but since you have dry skin with a problem T-zone, I would suggest only using it on your T-zone. There's no need to risk over-drying your skin on areas of your face that aren't too much of an issue. Also, this mask won't be able to do much for your pores if you use it only every other week. Your pores would clog back up given too much time. I suggest trying 1-2 times a week on your T-zone ONLY. Hope this helps!

Because of your dry skin, I would not use it more than once a week. I think if you look closely at your pores before using and then right after using - you will see the difference. Be sure to let it completely dry and start to tug at your skin before washing off.

I guess its not 'supposed to' but I've used it on pimples...I left it overnight and when I woke up, the zit was more or less gone other than a little pink spot. Not just that, but it didn't dry out my skin, which happens quite easily for me. Now, I'm not saying you'll get the same results - everyone's different, obviously - but it definitely worked very well for me. I'm a 19 year old woman and I have normal-mild combination skin. Hope this helped!

This really depends on the zit and your skin type. Personally I have never used any product that cleared up a bad zit immediately upon application and I love masks, owe many and use them daily. If you need to clear up a spot on the fly try benzoyl peroxide. It dries up zits like nothing i've ever used. Try to find a product with a high percentage, keep it on all day, sleep with a thick application of it on too. Beware it does bleach fabrics.

Masks are a wonderful tool to pamper yourself with and have a multitude of functions and results. It's more about maintenance than instant gratification.

Best of luck!

Question
Is this normal?
When I apply the mask to my face, it stings for a little bit and flushes my skin. Is this the "active charcoal"? Or is this not supposed to happen? It isn't extremely painful or anything, it just stings for 15-20 seconds. It does flush my skin right away though... enough to see my pink/red face in the areas not fully covered by the mask. Thanks for your help!

My mask tingles as it dries -- I suppose this could be considered 'stinging' if you weren't used to it, but it's normal for me, every time I've used it. As long as your skin isn't negatively affected by the mask, I think it might just have to be something you either get used. :)

Redness is especially common with higher-end/more expensive clay masks.

I recently quit using this mask. It worked great for me in my 20's but now i'm in forties! I just repurchased after not using for many years. I had some congestion on forehead. I found it stung my skin as well and my skin was a bit red after. It is not easy to get off without a washrag. I just purchased mario badescu mask (orange tonic). It is not as drying and my skin looks better after 2 uses. I do love origins plantscription regimen.

I think it's normal for it to tingle mildly for a few minutes initially and that can lead to a bit of redness. I like to use it in the evenings or right before bed to give my skin a chance to deal overnight and look fabulous the next morning.

What would not be normal is if the redness or even the tingling persists. If it does, please do not continue using it.

answer 3
Depending on how the thick the layer is (and how wet your skin is when you apply it), it varies quite a bit. I start with barely-damp skin (I use a warm washcloth first, then dry my face off and apply the mask immediately, while my skin's still a tad moist to the touch)- and it takes a good 20-30 mins for the thinner areas of application to dry. However, leaving it on until it's good and dry seems to be the best way to ensure that it's getting the oil out- I wait until you can SEE the oily dots on the surface of the mask- that can take 40 mins sometimes, but it makes a big difference on how oily my skin is after I remove it (and for the next few days).
