Nothing last forever, but..... Not for young children. If your a big girl and can take care of things you won't have problems with scratches. I haven't had mine for too long but so far it looks brand new. :-)

I will give my own answer since I own it now. The mirror does tend to come with a bit of slight scratches (unless you get lucky or pick at the store). I handle with care and haven't made any additional scratches. So in short, although it is quite scratch-able, it isn't terribly fragile either.

the mirror itself is 5.5"wide and 4"high, the whole mirror is about 10"high and 7"wide
