Swatches should be more accurate! These sticks are glossy but less so than the swatches imply. Some shine but not high shine like gloss. When choosing color you'd be better off zooming on the photos of the actual stick point.

yeah, it's a pretty solid cross between glossy and creamy. it's not goopy, like gloss can be, but it's shinier than a normal cream pencil.

This is definitely not as glossy as the picture, although it does have some shine and sparkle. I recommend using a Buxom lip gloss over the lip tarnish if you are looking for a high shine look.

I don't think it's glossy. Nice sheen I would say. You don't need lipgloss but I'm really into gloss right now so I do use gloss w/this product

answer 11
Its really slightly less glossy as the photo shows when you put it on but its easy to add a little extra shine if you need to with any gloss you already have and all you would need is a little drop. I would say this lip stain is the perfect combo of glossy and matte. I usually would have to blot my lips with a tissue after applying my other glosses in order to get the same effect as this tarnish. Hope this helps.

Yes it is glossy but non lasting. I use the older buxom sticks and put a dot of buxom gloss on and it lasts a long time and I get compliments at sephora. Using the two is more cost effective as well. This pencil needed to be sharpened alot.

Question
Can someone provide more information on the different colors?
The only problem I have with shopping for lip color on Sephora.com is that often the pictures of the color are non-descriptive or inaccurate. Usually Leslie provides a word description of the colors to help guide me, but none are given here. Can someone out there give a description of the colors so I can make a more educated guess as to what color would be right for me? I am very excited about this new Buxom product and thus would be most appreciative!

I agree with others when they say try on in store if at all possible. Colors don't match the swatches you see here. I got Mug Shot (nude pink). Nude, yes, but I don't see any pink in this at all. This is going back to Sephora, will return in-store so I can choose what color is best for me.

The colors are sheer so they look nothing like the palet. I purchased from the store and had to open each b/c their color was not like the display color.. which would appear solid. I'm medium, olive tone and went with the dark color. Just keep in mind that they are somewhat sheer & glossy.

answer 5
The lighter pink is what I have, and it's very light pink, with blue undertones. It's very glossy and not thick in color like a heavier lipstick or pencil might be. It's pretty on it's own, but to add more color to it, I actually use a thicker gloss that's the same shade, just a little thicker. The color on the bottom of the pencil, at least with the one I have, is completely different than the color of the actual tarnish. It looks like a bright creamy reddish pink in the pencil, and the end of the pencil is very light pink. The end of the pencil is closer to the actual color than the physical color of the lipstick. I know that sounds kind of confusing, but hopefully helps you some.

I didn't try the brighter pink pencil, but if it's anything like the other color I bought, it will be a light version of the end of the pencil.

Good luck!

I tried them all in my Sephora store:

Blackmail: Deep blackberry. I do wear this one and because I'm so fair it has a bit of a goth look if I apply too heavily. Looks great with intense jewel tones and dark smoky eyes.

Busted: Hot Rod Red. The basic every woman should own. Nice true red that works with neutrals as well as more dramatic colors. Had to have it first.

Caught on Videotape: Deep intense fuschia pink. Barbie pink on steroids. Not my color, but would give a big bright punch to a little black dress.

Wardrobe Malfunction: Pale baby pink. Again, so not my color. This would be a perfect pale lip with dark smoky or intesely colored eyes.

Hope this helps!

Caught on Tape is a beautiful bright darker pink... more fuschia. Makes my smile just pop! Wardrobe malfunction is a very light yet bright pink. The tarnish provides a different lip coverage like I've never experienced. I have a tan, so I don't care for the lighter pink.... though as tan fades will probably find it works better, but it really is for a younger face I think. I hope they come out with new colors soon. I just ordered the Blackmail and Busted.

On me, Busted is a true red and Blackmail is a sheer dark plumpish color - very similar to Clinique's Black Honey or Urban Decay's Oil Slick. The two together are awesome. I can't comment on the other colors because I haven't tried them. Hope this helps.

-Wardrobe Malfunction : the color is light pink, carnation pink. It's almost like a color of your inside lips. It's so pretty.
-Caught On Tape : the color is transparent deep pink. It looks like if you put a lot of deep pink lip gloss.
-Busted : the color is like the fire engine red.
-Blackmail : the color is like Vivid burgundy.
I hope this answer can help you... :)

Pop off the top (their are two pieces to it). Take the top off the top... Their is a little plug in the bottom of the sharpener you'll need to remove. Once you've done that though, then it's as simple as any other sharpener to use. When you've finished, you slide the pencil back into the top, then the top back onto the pencil and you're good to go. Pretty easy, really.

The sharpener confused me too when I first examined it. Take the entire cap/sharpener off the pencil and then take off the cap end of the sharpener. There is a second cap on the sharpener itself that has a pick for cleaning the inside of the sharpener that you have to remove. Then you can sharpen the pencil in the usual way, wipe the sharpener clean, and reassemble.

I guess depending on the color. Mine is medium but doesn't last that long. It can be an individual thing with the body chemistry, so you might want to try one in a color that I guess you want to show up on you. Don't eat or drink for awhile and then check it in a well lit mirror. I personally do not like the formula.

I just got the scandal (mauve colour) today and it's not at all what you're expect. It's like an understated pinkish red - BUT if you're looking for a more reddish colour I'd probably go with the cherry.
