I always put this on after my moisturizer. I think of it as my moisturizer needs to penetrate through to my skin and then this primer grabs my make-up and keeps it in place.

Best to use after a moisturizer. However... I would recommend using a moisturizer with a similar consistency... Clinique's moisture surge and Laroche-Posey hydrating light are both great.

Personally, I think this is too pricy to be using as *just* a moisturizer. I have really dry skin, and I use this paired with my regular moisturizer (Benefit's Total Moisture) I actually would recommend the benefit moisturizer more than this, that is the holy grail of moisturizers for people with dry skin in my opinion. However, if you want your moisturizer to hydrate AND minimize the appearance of pores, I do recommend this alone. Hope that helps. xx

We call it the "lazy moisturizer" because if people don't use moisturizer this is a way to still protect the skin. I still recommend wearing one under, but I am also guilty of not moisturizing underneath sometimes :)

I would say maybe. The sephora consultant said I could use this as a moisturizer, however it depends on your skin type. I would say that if your skin is oily, this would probably work. But if your skin is dry, pair this with your regular moisturizer and you should be good to go. Hope this helps (:

Question
Which Primer should I use?
I have combination skin, Fair complexion, long, fine brown hair, and green eyes. I also have larger pores around my nose and chin. I am not someone who wears makeup often, like maybe once a month(if that often), but when I do wear it I would like it to look good. I don't want to spend a fortune on something that probably will not get used before I have to throw it out. Someone suggested that I try the travel size Smash Box primer. But there is even more choices then I know what to do with! I am a 30 year old novice when it comes to make-up!! Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I highly recommend the blue hydrating primer, the travel size is perfect if you don't use much, but the normal size won't expire or anything so it's up to you. I've been using the hydrating primer for a few months and it really does feel nice even without makeup on. Like a facial lotion really :). The green redness reduction is only necessary if you have problems with redness. And the original Smashbox primer is okay, but I find this one best of all.

The Smashbox primers are really nice because each kind is targetted on what kind of effect you want. I think if you don't have dry skin, or red-ish understone then go for the normal primer. If you have dry skin -> do the hydrating primer. If you have red skin -> do the green primer to balance it out.

I have dry,but acne prone skin. I usually do use oil-free products, but have had no luck with most primers with a silicone base. They tend to make my skin look drier and/or breakout. i am interested in this primer, but was wonder if it was acne causing?

I break out whenever I try new products! I started using the white, oil free primer but my skin gets drier in the fall/winter, so I thought I would try this hydrating version. (how do I have dry skin and still break out? i have no idea!) This is also oil free! I loved it and it didn't make me breakout! I don't wear it every day, maybe just 2-3 times a week, I highly recommend it. I feel like it helps smooth over my acne so my makeup conceals it better. It's also long lasting so I wasn't constantly going to the bathroom to see if my acne was showing!

I have always struggled with breakouts and have very very sensitive skin and have had NO issues with this primer. I would say it is hydrating, so if you don't need the extra moisture, pick one that is for oily skin.

It's less of a silky-silicone feeling texture. This is hard to explain, it's almost like a really light moisturizer but it creates this wonderful seal of moisture in the skin. I recommend switching, I am obsessed.

How to know if you've removed all the primer?
Currently using Clinique Creamy Cleanser to remove makeup, sunscreen and primer. Hoping I don't have to resort to an oil cleanser, but I'd like to know what everyone is using. Thanks. Oh, have combo skin. Using the Light Primer on t-zone, Hydrating everywhere else. Thanks for reading and look forward to your advice.

I have used Smashbox primer for years and absolutely swear by it. (I use La Fresh makeup remover wipes and I've never had any problems removing it.) I was really excited to see this primer in a hydrating formula because my skin is sooooo dry. I was fortunate enough to get it in a couple of sample sizes, as well as trying it at a Sephora store, and I'm really glad I did. I don't find it hydrating in the least. It feels sticky, thick and lacks the silky soft feeling that I so love in the other Smashbox primers. It was hugely disappointing. I'll stick to the ones I already swear by! Perhaps you are experiencing the same sticky thickness that I did with the hydrating primer and maybe it doesn't feel like it comes off as easily.

Washing your face thoroughly will remove it. Follow up with a cotton ball dipped in toner or witch hazel to remove trace amounts.

I put it into the refrigerator one day because it was in the car and the car was hot. When I used it the next morning it was so wonderful the coolness was great. Will the product breakdown by refrigeration?

Hello Ped1028,

I refrigerate my products all the time. I think that this will prolong the longevity of the product. I think it is great to put your eye creams in the refrigerator because, when you apply it to your eye it feels cooling. I hope that this is helpful.
