I really like this foundation and would describe it as full coverage in terms of hiding the hideous sunspots and large pores from too much sun exposure over the years. I apply either a light moisturizer or a primer first and give that a few minutes to set before I apply the foundation. I don't get the even coverage I want with a brush. When I use my fingertips it appears too heavy for my taste tho all the awful pigmentation I have is definitely out of sight. I get the best result dotting foundation across my forehead and cheek bones which I then blend across my face with a slightly damp sponge. I usually don't need more foundation than what I initially dot on my face but if there is an area that I think has inadequate coverage, I put a dot of foundation in my palm and dab it with the sponge then feather the area that looks needy with the sponge. The end result is very natural looking with all the awful areas of discoloration completely out of sight.

I don't use a brush I like to apply with my finger tips. Start out with just a little makeup and keep adding until you get the coverage you want...but let it settle for a minute before you add more, less is more in this foundation.

This formula is not full coverage. It is a buildable medium to full coverage. I probably will not try to make it full coverage as it could look unnatural. After applying the foundation, spot conceal for problem areas. Love this foundation. Do not make any decisions to return it based on other negative reviews. I bought it, tried it, and loved it. I did spend a good 45 minutes at the counter to make sure I was buying a shade to match me perfectly after it oxidized on me.

If you want full coverage, switch to the Laura Mercier foundation that comes in a tube. I returned this foundation because the formula and color has been dramatically altered. I never use a brush with a liquid foundation; I use a "latex" sponge instead.

I think it can depend on your method of application. I feel like sponges and brushes suck up all the product so at the suggestion of a celeb makeup artist I started applying it will my finger tips and feel like it looks much better. Try to just apply it and not rub it in like you would a moisturizer, and once you've done your face if you don't have enough coverage add more, it's worked for me. Good luck!

I use Trish Mcevoy's flawless foundation brush to apply LM foundations. Trish's brushes are the best in the industry and many of my friends have had their brushes for 15+ years, if you take care of them.

Pleas help me find the right product so I can go out and not have to hide my face. Need something oil free but non drying.

It sounds like we're twins with regards to our skin. I live in Florida and have lots of sun damage, but have undergone lots of derm peels. My skin is flaky and dry and peels a lot even without a sunburn. I really hoped this product would work for me and not look heavy, but no such luck. I have found a system that seems to help though. Go to any high end dept store and ask for a LaMer Regenerating sample. Use it as an allover base moisturizer, then apply Laura Mercier tinted illuminating foundation. I even mix mine with LaMer again and rub it all over my face and down my neck too. It works and looks super natural with no peeling. Good Luck!

If you can get to a store, do it and make them help you figure this out. Otherwise, see if you can find a makeup person. I am not certain that this foundation will solve it. There may be other choices professionals use that can work better.

OMG I would not recommend this stuff at all! I purchased this wanting more coverage and something "good for the skin," this stuff missed the mark big time! Difficult to apply, did not blur lines at all, didn't give a nice finish, ecentuated pores. Not good. I would recommend the new Tarte Amazonian clay foundation, great coverage while still looking super natural. The brush that you are supposed to use with it is excellent as well.

I highly recommend Smashbox's Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Foundation ... it's a buildable coverage foundation so you can match it perfectly to you skin care needs and stays on for a long time! I find it stays on even longer with a primer and setting spray (I like Urban Decay). :)

After priming your skin appropriately, and setting it with powder, it does last 12 hours on me. I have very dry skin so I cannot use long wearing formulas. Long wearing formulas don't look impressive on dry skin. Basically you might have to touchup during the day. A full coverage foundation may not be the best thing for dry skin. I would recommend spot treating with color corrector and then a concealer after applying foundation.

I have very dry skin and am prone to hormonal breakouts but I feel like my skin is far clearer since using this the product. I feel like it's long lasting but I use it with a primer and set it with a powder. Make sure it's a good primer, I use Hourglass mineral primer and I set it with Jane Iredal powder which never breaks me out.

I'm not sure what effect this would have on acne prone skin. But, in my opinion, this formula does not last all day. It tends to slip off by the middle of the day.

I have mid 30s adult acne and found that this didn't break me out.. been using it for a couple of weeks and so far so good. It's comforting on my skin and I use acne topicals from the derm.

Question
If you used the LM Moisturizing foundation that was discontinued, what do you use now?
I LOVED Laura Mercier's Moisturizing Foundation and cannot fathom why they replaced it. I've struggled to find something comparable since.

I have dry skin (so lots of foundations make me look flaky/dry) and have lots of redness.

I want something moisturizing, with full coverage that has a natural, even dewy finish. The finish is what I'm struggling to find. I LOVED the natural, radiant finish of the Moisturizing Foundation and cannot find anything that compares.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried YSL touche eclat? It works wonders for people with dry skin and it gives you a dewy finish! It's a little pricey but well worth it!

This company makes a great foundation primer......I have had this problem in the past (the dry flaky skin). Even in my early 40's I suffer from adult acne. So I still have a strict acne skin reg....The best thing I ever did for the flaky part was get one of those brushes that pulses and spins made my skin look and feel sooooo different. Exfoliation is KEY!

I just tried their foundation and tinted moisturizer. I would definitely go with the tinted moisturizer with Clinique's concealer for any trouble spots. I layer on top with NYX powder and my skin looks flawless.

Question
Dry patches?
My skin doesn't usually get dry all over - but I often end up with dry patches on my chin and around my nose. It's so annoying when foundations and concealers make it look worse and flakier, even with primer! Will this foundation help with dry patches?

I wouldn't think so, I had the same issue as you. Instead I purchased the Clinique moisturizer that I use at night (yellow bottle, cheap one), Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer as my base, Clinique concealer for trouble areas, with NYX powder dusted on top of it all.

Colors and comparison to LM Moisturizing Foundation.
Are the colors exactly the same like regular LM moisturizing foundation? How does it look on the face, the same glowy appearance? Is it more moisturizing? Thanks!:)

You would really need to go in and have a consultant match up colors. I found when I tried this formula, it did nothing for my fines lines. I use LM cream foundation in the jar. I found when applied with a foundation brush, you dip a bit in and work it around your face. I also found that the cream formula will last all day and seems to glide over fine lines.

Question
What is the difference in color between Blush ivory and Warm Ivory?
I have dark brown hair, brown eyes, and pink in my skin. I was wearing Blush ivory in the Creme Smooth foundation...would I be the same in this? I don't want to look too pink, but I want a nice neutral color. I love the Tinted Moisturizer in Nude....

Hello, blush ivory has a more pink base and warm ivory is a yellow base. If you already use Blush Ivory this would be the best shade to continue with.

I too was a medium beige in bare minerals and I am a warm ivory in laura mercier but at the time when I used bare minerals there were only 4 shades you can choose from and most light to medium skin tones fell under medium beige. You can try to find your color i.d. number on the foundation tab and it usually gives good results of what you would be in other foundations.
